Tonight’s Blind Battle Beer Tasting Lineup:

    1) Modist Just You Wait (5.2%):
A German Pilsner from Minnesota aged in oak barrels for flavors of earthy cereal and cracker malts, yeast, and some lemongrass on the finish.
    versus
    2) Cerebral Tactical Maneuver (5.1%): A German Foeder Helles from Colorado with flavors of biscuit, lemongrass, and honeysuckle. Earthy cereal malts and smooth. (mismatched blind)

    3) BlackStack DDH Dad Jokes (8.3% no canning date): A DDH NEIPA from Minnesota with Citra, Mosaic, Cashmere & Vic Secret for flavors of orange juice, and sweet tropical notes.
    versus
    4) BlackStack Open Bar (8.0% no canning date): A DDH NEIPA from Minnesota with flavors of New Zealand Riwaka, Citra Cryo, Azacca Cryo & Amarillo Cryo.
    (correctly matched blind)
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Winners:

    2) Cerebral Tactical Maneuver:
What an absolute banger of a beer here. This one has earthy and cereal malt flavors, light lemongrass and honeysuckle, with a smooth, earthy finish. Simple, yet depth and complexity. This tasted like straight from the hills of Bavaria. Foeder Helles might be my new favorite style. Both of these are worth seeking out.

    3) Blackstack Open Bar
: Dad Jokes meet an Open Bar is a dangerous combo. Vic Secret and Riwaka. Dad Jokes leaned a little sweet. Open Bar was fantastic. It nailed the pineapple, green papaya, mango, and citrus flavors with just enough green and pine to balance the sweetness. Extremely drinkable for 8%. Tastes very fresh, but BlackStack needs to put canning dates, but definitely coming back to this one.

Killian's was the first beer I ever had that I liked, when I was still a teenager. Haven't had one in at least 15yrs. Now I kinda want one.

Big shout out to @Dimidiata for this! I'm not always in the mood for a massively high ABV adjunct laden stout, but I was this afternoon and this scratched that itch admirably. This is delicious and a little bit devastating. Abv is practically 14% and it barely registers in the taste.

I suppose a cookies and cream ice cream influenced imperial stout kind of counts as a breakfast beer this evening ... right?

In my opinion, it has a fair toasted malt presence other big beers don’t. I didn’t mind helping my BiL who wanted Devil’s Backbone Vienna Lager (Virginia-based InBev buy-out brewery, but solid brews) but had this as a backup when we were at the beach. This was a leftover.

I essentially never see Trillium here in NYC, so had to get this when I saw it (along with a couple others also). I try to not just follow hype, but I will say it is pretty tasty. Cheers!
