Heading to Ohio in September and staying at brew dogs for the week. What other breweries are a can’t miss in the area of Columbus and Cleveland? I’ll take drives even further if it is recommended enough for sure. But looking at what people suggest.
In C-Bus: Hoof Hearted Kitchen Seventh Son Jackie O's Wolf's Ridge Akron: Magic City Missing Mountain R Shea Cleveland: Fat Heads Masthead Bookhouse You'll get lots of different options I'm sure
Really curious what made someone from Cali land on staying at an international juggernaut like BrewDog in Columbus. There are a ton of other options closer to the scene downtown, so I'm guessing you scored some kind of promo. Anyway, Noble Beast is the best option in Cleveland IMO. And if you find yourself east of Cbus, Wooly Pig makes the best lagers in the state IMO.
I am a sucker for gimmicks. Being in a brewery, shower beer, mini keg in the room. That was all my vibe. The fact it is outside Columbus doesn’t bother me. I will also be staying in downtown the last two days I am there at the Graduate as well so it will be fine. I will definitely find myself at wooly pig and noble beast then.
Probably a little less than an hour from Brew Dog is Athens, OH. Jackie O's, Devil's Kettle and Little Fish are located there. Jackie O's is Ohio's best kept secret. World class, and very prolific.
If you’re heading up to Cleveland from Columbus, you may wanna stop by JAFB in Wooster. About 1/2 way. No food there, but Hero House makes great subs that you can bring into the brewery.
FYI the Jackie Os in Columbus is just a bottleshop/to-go as of now, they won't have onsite bar options until November timing. Also you should definitely visit Columbus Brewing. I would put it near the top of options in Columbus. Gemut Biergarten is also decent.
If Jackie Os all to go, what are the top beers to look out for? I will grab some bottles to bring back with me if anything.
You honestly can't go wrong with their barrel aged offerings. Just grab what appeals to you, and you should be good.
I think the Colombus tap room is slated to open end of November. Anyone have insight on that? Not in Cleveland but would add Clag Brewing to any itinerary in this geography. They are making some of my favorite beers in the country
when I went to Columbus this September, Jackie O was topping the list. Spoke the staff there and they said end of the year. But the balcony hasn’t even started construction and the inside was still at the very beginning stages of the remodeling. They had a long way to go imo. Doubtful end of this year. but thanks to everyone for all the tips. I was able to hit up, masthead, hoof hearted, wolfs ridge, sevens son, Jackie Os, fat head, noble head and JAFB, along with brew dogs that I was staying at of course. a lot of fantastic brews honestly! Was a great trip and would go back for the brews!
