Moved on to a few Alpine AAL lagers from Moosehead. We’re pretty sure this is regular Moosehead packaged for a lower price point. Regardless, I can’t tell the difference so this is what I buy when the mood strikes.

Tonight’s Blind Battle Beer Tasting Lineup:

    1) Utepils Pilsner (5.0%): A Czech Pilsner from Minneosta with flavors of earthy pale Munich malts. Smooth and lower carbonation.
    versus
    2) 2nd Shift Technical Ecstasy (5.4%): A Czech Pils from Missouri with flavors of bready malts, bread dough, lightly buttered with hints of lemongrass. Dynamic. (mismatched these two blind)

    3) Equilibrium Mast Theory (8.0%) canned 6/30/22): A NEIPA from NY with flavors of earthy passionfruit citrus, tropical papaya, some green mango. Strong carbonation.
    versus
    4) Equilibrium Double Fractal Hilbert Curve (8.5% canned 5/31/22): A NEIPA from NY with flavors of orange, pineapple and green citrus rind that provides hints of bitterness. Heavier and sweet. (Correctly matched blind)
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Winners:

    2) 2nd Shift Technical Ecstasy:
This was very impressive for a Czech Pilsner. It has great bready flavors. Subtle lemon and earth. Nice buttery yeast and a full-mouthfeel. Extremely dynamic and nails all the qualities for a Czech Pils. One of the best American versions I can remember. Definitely glad I found this one.

    4) Equillibrium Mast Theory: Second time this one pours with too large of a head, that prohibits the beer from being poured. Nevertheless delivers on the flavor. Nice balance of citrus, guava, papaya, mango. Green notes without being bitter or too sweet. The Double Fractal drank imperial and a bit past the sweet and boozy threshold I have for an IPA. Mast Theory is good stuff if you can look past the weirdly massive head.

I was hoping to post a beer from the big motocross event in upstate NY yesterday but decided the 15-minute line wasn't worth a Labatts Blue or a Corona.
Back home now, going through the TH in my Fridge.

    Happy Birthday!!!
Call me crazy, but I so look forward to 60. It would mean lots of successes, and I like to think I live life well. The only way to appreciate success is to fall down a bit. I don't think 80 year olds just got by without pushing the boundaries, suffering defeat, and maybe even, to paraphrase a celebrity problem child: winning a few. My grandmother, who lived to 94, would tell me that time moved faster and faster as the years moved on, and I know now exactly what she meant. When you are 8, a month is interminable but after 40, a month is the blink of an eye.

    Bring it on!!
    Oh, and Happy New Year!:sunglasses:

Not a bad coffee stout, just not that well balanced or eye-appealing. I seem to get a few chunky floaters in my mouth that melt right away, nothing gross per se. Nice coffee presence although a richer malt sweetness would offset it better.
