St. Bernardus Day (August 20, 2022)

Okay, now I'm motivated to go back to my Meijer store and pick up that Christmas gift pack on clearance that I considered yesterday but passed on it. Eighteen bucks for a mixed 4-pack plus a chalice should have been a no-brainer yesterday. Today it is.

 

I see a Belgian beer flight in my future.
Like anyone needs a reason to drink great Belgian beer?
But at least I will have an excuse for the wife.
This is one tasting I can get down with.

I'm in! - my current St Bernardus inventory is on "E", but I thinks I will pick up some of the tripel so that I can participate in this!

 

…and at a Meijers of all places! That is indeed a find. I don’t recall ever seeing much in the way of Belgian craft imports at a Meijers before!

 

They get a few good gift packs at Christmas at my store, but that's it. Others have reported some good inventory at their store, so it must depend on the beer buyer at any particular Meijer.

I haven't looked at beer at my local Meijer since they first opened about 4 years ago -- and found a year-old 12-pack of Sierra Nevada Summerfest in March. The week they opened.

Yeah, I'm sure that was distro shenanigans, but shame on the liquor manager for letting that slip through.

But for cheap St. Bernardus, I might check them out!

Don't hold your breath to find good stuff, but maybe your beer manager is better than your story relates and you might find something. My store only gets a few choices of special stuff during the holidays via gift packs, and usually they're Belgians. What I found was from a close-out selection of beer/wine/liquor that wasn't even in the beer area. You almost have to focus on looking for these bargains. (Also, I live in kind of a blue collar community where these types of beers don't sell very well. Your community may jump all over these packs during the holidays.)

 

My Meijer is in that sort of neighborhood, too, so I won't be surprised if I don't see a wide range of imports.

Might just hit the local big retailer and get it over with.

 

Abt 12 is my favorite quad in the world and a top 5 beer for me, even above Westy. I’ll go grab one for this occasion. Cheers!

 

Just checked. I have a Tripel and a Christmas. This seems like a good occasion to drink them.

 

I have some dusty Christmas ale cans that have been staring at me for several months now. Sounds like a good day to crack one.

 

In 1981 I met my new French father in law for the first time. Deep in the heart of red wine country I was surprised to fine a beer fridge on the porch-the first beer we shared was a St. Bernardus in a white crockery bottle. He introduced me to excellent French wine and excellent Belgian beer.
