Figured we always get one going each year and why not kick it off for 2022.

Would be great to share local beers, nationally available, fests, and celebrations.

Our stores here in New England have certainly filled the shelves. I have to say I was very much looking forward to the Toppling Goliath okto and it didn’t disappoint. Also have grabbed some Erdinger we really enjoyed as well as the four pack smaller format of Ayinger!

My close family friend works at Trillium now and aid they plan to make their fear a great time coming up.

    Prost! (Also fuck my pour)

Was too good not to share it. Ha

I was responding to someone in the other room and well, that’s the result

Cracked my first of the season last night, a Zero Gravity. It was outstanding.

Already had multiple Ayinger, Paulaner Märzen, and Zero Gravity.

Also have had Weihenstephan (bottle, not can...yet).

How's the Ayinger tasting this year in your opinion?

Im wondering if the cans will see splotchy distro this year; the cans of helles and hefe were weird here when they started for us here. It took a while and then only total wine had them for the longest time. Finally they’re everywhere now…

On a related note, earlier today I posted in the Cans/Unsustainable thread:

“One sidenote is that over the past few years I have seen German brewed beers in cans much more frequently which I would attribute as a response to customer demand.”

    Cheers!

I got two bottles. First one was just ok. Ayinger used to be one of my absolute favorites, then a few years ago it just stopped doing it for me. However my second bottle was pretty damn good, and was on a fresher palate. I'll probably snag a few more singles.

I believe mine were bottled in April.

Were those two beers from the same pack or where they two separate purchases?

If they were two separate purchases the differences might be they took different paths to get to your retailer. European brewed beers have a long(er) supply chain from brewery to across the Atlantic and then distribution from the customs warehouse. Lots of places for abuse to occur (unfortunately).

    Cheers!

I had Penn Oktoberfest and Ayinger so far this year.

Penn Oktoberfest in the bottle and can format. It is tasting really good this year. The only complaint I’ve had with Penn in the past is the lack of carbonation in some of the batches I’ve had in recent years. Not this year. Well balanced and hit all the right notes. Ayinger has a more of a fruity character to it compared to Penn Oktoberfest. The malts shine in both with Penn being a little more balanced and Ayinger a little more flavorful. In my past history with Ayinger I would always notice an off metallic taste. Again not this year. L2048 and still held up well considering it was brewed in February.

I am also looking forward to Hacker Pschorr, Sly Fox, Hofbrau, and the mix your own six-pack section filled with Oktoberfests at my local grocery store in the near future. Fat Heads, Troegs, Victory, Helltown, Church Brew Works will be in the mix plus a few others. I love this time of year! Cheers!

It looks like you will be having one hell of an Oktoberfest celebration.

    Cheers to you! :beers:

I’m nearly certain I split these myself. Took half the Rothaus Marzen pack (3 beers) and half Ayinger (two beers).

Just to double check what you are saying here: you took two bottles of Ayinger from the same four-pack?

    Cheers!

Yeah, I’ve been in a celebratory mood of late. Oktoberfest season will run well into December for me. I took a break from imbibing a few years due to circumstances beyond my control. It’s good to be back enjoying beer again. Oktoberfest is one of my favorite style of beer along with harvest season and wet hop harvest ales. Cheers!

Please let me know what you find.

Years ago Victory would produce two wet hopped beers: Harvest Ale and Harvest Pils. I enjoyed both of those products but quite some time ago (maybe 5+ years ago?) they stopped making those beers, perhaps a result of selling out to ABV?

Nowadays locally brewed wet hopped beers is a rarity.

    Cheers!

will do. In past years I could find Fat Heafs Hop Stalker, Helltown brewed a fantastic rye harvest ale, and East End Brewing Big Hop Harvest Ale. Maybe we could start a new thread…northeast harvest wet hop season.

For now, it’s back to Oktoberfest season and I’m getting ready to open my last bottle of Ayinger Oktoberfest. It will probably be my last one of the year and I’ll be moving on to other examples. I’ll be sure to check back in with my thoughts on different Oktoberfests throughout the season. Cheers!

Wet hopped beers died for me when Born Yesterday was laid to rest last year :sob:
