To expand on that, I've never had the regular DA. The BA variant I had was heavily carbonated and drank like cola. That's a no go for me.

Drinking this fine stout from Firestone. Aged for two years in 14-year-old Old Fitzgerald bourbon barrels and 18-year-old Sazerac rye whiskey barrels. 15% ABV.

The taste is really nice - quite roasty up front. Lots of stout there. Not overly sweet at all. A bit of leather, smoke, dark chocolate, molasses, raisins, booze, coffee grounds, prunes, and a nutty note. A bit of peppery spice as well. I definitely think this beer needs to warm a bit to be fully enjoyed. Great at 55-60 degrees.

I left a glowing review of it here a couple weeks ago. The cocoa powder gave it a unique flavor as far as I was concerned. Overall, I think I appreciated it more than I do a typical sweet chocolate taste you get from some beers. Cheers.

Thia is the beer that started this thread. I have never sent messages to a company before but Alesmith ruined a great BBA Stout with this one. If you can find the 2020 version you'll understand

Such a damned good Imperial Oatmeal Stout!
Im holding on to my last one like Jack did to the lady in the frozen waters on the Titanic before he let go:sob: i was lucky enough to get a pack sent to me from Harley.
I can drink Surly Darkness like water. Which year did you have?
You can check the vintages on their website. Each graphic is a different year. Ive had 4 or 5 different ones and all are great.

Its Thursday and I wanted to go with one beer with some power. so Hubbards Cave Brewing in Illinois and their Coffee and Cakes Imperial Stout with Hazelnut gets the win. This is a 12% ABV brew that I received in a swap with @Gambyt20 , Thank you!!

    onto my review:

Sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can poured into my snifter. The beer pours a jet black color with a minimal beige creamy head of .5 cm. This foam fades to nothing within a minute of finishing the pour.
the aroma is lightly sweetened coffee with hints of maple syrup and some rich nutty hazelnut notes buried in the nose. The sweetened coffee dominates. No hop profile and no hint of the ABV.
The first sip reveals a medium body with very smooth texture and fine rolling carbonation. The beer drinks very easy for 12%. Does leave a bit of a sticky residue on my lips after each sip.
Flavor is again sweetened coffee up front with kisses of maple syrup sweetness, almost like the maple candies you can buy. I get a little vanilla and then hazelnut is what finishes and lingers on my palate a bit. I dont get any hops anywhere and the ABV isnt heat or black peppery bite, very smooth beer.
This is definitely a sweeter imperial stout and I enjoy the flavor mix, wish the hazelnut was a little more up front, but its there and the beer is a fun one to drink.
Glad to have tried this one.
    4.15 in the BA DB

My first taste of this one. A surprise from a friend as I stopped by their house. Really great stout. Wish I had found some here.

Think I still have 4 or 6 of those (Larry's Last) in the cellar. They are darn tasty. Think I need to start thinning out the herd a bit, got too many to fit on the shelves.
