First Octoberfest of the season for me, and it's a good one.

California pistachios? Personally, I roll with Turkish.

Well, it is only about 89 degrees out, instead of close to 100. So, might as well bring out the big malty beers. Traquair House Ale, one of the best.

More Keith Jarrett with Dewey Redman. Charlie Haden on bass and Paul Motian on drums, incredible album, but like most of Jarrett's stuff, can't find a link to stream it. The Survivors' Suite.

"And those that create out of the holocaust of their own inheritance anything more than a convenient self-made tomb shall be known as 'Survivors."
Yeah, Keith can be a weird guy, but I love him

There is a good Brad Walker Quintet band that covers this...

I should have bought some when I got the beer but this brewery sells some audacious peanuts. The spicy ones will make you a believer. Alas though, I did not buy any. Years ago when I participated in BIF I would include a few packs of the spicy variety. Damn! Maybe that is why folks do not want to trade with me. Just screwing with you. I gave up trading.

Turkish hash. I plead the 5th.

Hoof Hearted all my friends are dead hazelnut coffee stout. If I had a Mortalis Hazel, I’d put them head to head. I think this compares well for half the price. Lots of bold flavors all around.

Excavator is back doing grading after 1.5 year of delays. Has a helper doing it, and he’s flaky. Showing up later. Leaving earlier. It’s annoying AF, but at least it’s progress. If we could get him here for a few solid days, we might stand a chance of power raking and hydro seeding this year. I’m not holding my breath.

    Zero Gravity Oktoberfest

Always happy to see the end of summer and the beginning of fall and with it Oktoberfest lagers.

From 16 ounce can with illegible canned on date.

Pours into my pint glass a clear copper with two fingers of fluffy khaki colored foam. Head drops quickly to a ring leaving no lace.

Scent is warm bread and spicy/herbal hops. A hint of apple.

Taste is on the dry side. Spicy and herbal hops. Tart apple. Bread and bread dough. Caramel. Possibly a suggestion of toffee.

Mouth is medium with a dry finish.

Decent solid Marzen. Finish is not as clean and crisp as my favorite German examples of the style. Though dryer and spicier this lager's tart apple, caramel notes and bready malt balance the spice.
