Im back with a big bourbon barrel Impy. This is a bit sweet so @Resistance88 would probably only gargle with this and wash his sink with the rest! :stuck_out_tongue: But I digress on this beer that Ive stared at several times in my cellar.
Barreled Souls Bring Da Ruckus BBA Imperial Stout. 14.7% ABV 1-20-2021 bottled date, 12 months in Weller Bourbon barrels. No adjuncts added.

And some Deets on the label:

Sampling a cellar temp 500 ml bottle poured into my snifter. The beer was bottled on 1//20/2021 after 12 months of aging in weller bourbon barrels.
Been in my cellar since October 2021 after I picked it up at the brewery.
The beer pours a deep black coffee color with a frothy beige head of .5 cm that fades to a thin edge layering soon after the pour.
the aroma is brown sugar, bourbon, vanilla and molasses. I also get a bit of warming booze. No hops on this nose.
First sip reveals a medium to thick body with a sticky texture and very fine tingly carbonation. Definitely a little coating on my lips and palate on each sip.
Flavor is sweet malts from start to finish. I get brown sugar and vanilla, bourbon notes and a bit of milk chocolate. Again, no hops on this one. There is some warming booze on the finish , swallow.
This is a big boozy bourbon soaked beer that tends on the sweeter side. But I really do like it and now will go finish sipping it while watching something on Netflix.

Troubles End Brewing (Collegeville, PA) - Dramaturg. They called it a "Hefty Oat Stout". 8% abv.

Nice rich frudgey brownie dark chocolate flavor, but not overly sweet. Some roasty espresso in there too. Silky feel, full bodied.

2020 Anvil And Stave Series BA Speedway
better than founders, revolution, stone, lagunitas, surly, Fremont and every other brewery that has made a BBA Coffee Stout
And again..2022 version is a fuckin insult next to this. Not even worthy of a side by side cuz id end up pouring the 2022 in the toilet
Prolly gonna hold on to my last bottle forever

Cellar raid at 11pm last night. Vintage BC stouts definitely holding their own against the wave of new BBA and pastry options on the market. Served on the warm side - probably high 50s. Smooth bourbon aroma - nice mildly sweet/roast/char… then boom - back end boozy heat. Wish I had bought two.

2020 might be the best vintage of the last 6 years. 2019 is up there after a couple years on it now, though

Coffee Dino S’Mores - a tasty RIS that’s very coffee forward and has the right malty char. Despite the shenanigans ingredients, it’s very straightforward and good. Cheers!

A little too bitter for adjuncts. Just way out of balance

    Left: No Ends Only Begginings
FirestoneWalker and Highland Park Collab. BBA Imperial Stout tout aged for a year
    Right: Imperial Walkers Reserve
    BBA Imperial Smoked Porter

Update: the Highland Park collab was too sweet ( not surprising cuz alll HPB stouts are always too sweet and i think they're trash/overpriced)

The Walkers Reserve was great but at 18 dollars for a 500ml bottle they can go somewhere else wit all dat

I drink a ton of stouts, oftentimes, when I'm having an IPA I think, "why the fuck am I drinking this, I've got a ton of stouts in the fridge".

That being said, I'm curious how CW got so flavor into such a "thin" beer, anyway this is just terrific. [IMG]

I dabbled in the barleywine thread yesterday, plus the St Bernardus tasting, but am back with an imp stout tonight.
Barreled Souls Coffee Monster (speckled axe coffee version) 12.4% ABV imperial coffee stout.

    onto my review:
Sampling this 500 ml bottle poured at cellar temperature into my snifter. Bottle was picked up at the brewery in October 2021 and has been in my cellar since then.
The beer pours a rich black coffee color with no light passing through the glass. A slightly frothy tan head of 1.5 cm foams up and fades to a sturdy edge layer after the pour. ONe small wispy island also rests in the center of the glass. Only legs like a red wine, no lattice when I swirl the glass.
Aroma is dark chocolate, lightly sweetened coffee, a bit of sweet vanilla and some brown sugar. No hop profile and the ABV is hidden on the nose.
First sip reveals a medium body, with fine and spacious soft carbonation. Texture is smooth and silky, but also leaves a sticky residue on my lips.
Flavor is some sweeter milk chocolate, roasted malt, coffee grounds and hints of vanilla in the background. The coffee lingers a bit and comes back with some bitterness on the finish. No hops and the ABV is still hidden.
I enjoy this version of coffee monster. WIll need to check my notes, but didnt like the other variant that I had as much as this one.
Worth a try if you like slightly sweeter coffee stouts.
