I was wondering about that myself too. But will try them side by side another day (and let you know). I expect it is the same beer. And the canned version is more efficient for international markets.

A couple years ago I did a comparison of those two along with Rochefort 10, all about 2 year old bottles. I found St Bernardus to be the sweetness of the three at that age, Rochefort the most toasty and dry, and Westvleteren about in the middle.

That is a beautiful image, I’ve been fortunate enough to try two of those but never side by side. Nice!

Probably going to be too tired for beer tonight, 9 hour drive home then unpacking. Looking tasty so far though!

Revisited August 20th, 2022 (St. Bernardus Day)

Lovely golden-orage body, moderately hazy; heavy carbonation; thick, billowy, white head; sticky and lasting. Wonderful clove-like aroma set against a nice yeasty / malty backdrop. Light malt and moderate spicy bitterness to the taste; cloves and anise; peppery; phenols. Medium-heavy body; soft with a mild coarseness; fairly dry mouthfeel overall.

Somewhat different sensory impressions compared to ten years ago; scoring has definitely improved. Overall, very nice with the taste and smell improving as the beer warms and opens.

    Original April 2nd, 2012 ratings and scores: 3.5 3.0 4.0 4.0; overall: 3.5; rDev: -14.4%

The beer pours a decent light yellow color with a relatively thin white head. Light spice, bubblegum, and apricot and raisins highlight the aroma. Taste is pretty well-balanced with a noticeable alcohol presence coming out in the end, upending the malt/ester initial presence. Finishes a the sweet-side. Good mouthfeel: medium bodied with a lively yet soft carbonation that adds to the overall smoothness.

A good beer and worth more visits if a Belgian-styled brew is what you're looking for.

St. Bernardus Abt 12. Evening beer here. And my last one for today.
Probably the most interesting St Bernardus in some ways. Infact it is, almost, like Westvleteren 12  Here it is sometimes called the Westvleteren that is available.
    Cheers all

Enjoying a post "Linner" ABT12 in Banner Elk, NC. Unfortunately, Imgur is over-capacity at the moment to post a pic. One of my favorite Belgian beers!
    Cheers!

[IMG] Happy St. Bernardus Day! I was only able to find this offering from St. Bernardus at my local distributor. Hopefully this qualifies. It’s actually quite refreshing on a broiling hot day!

This was delicious. We should do this more often. Shout out to Grace O’Malley’s in Norfolk.

Nice glass. I think that one was a Duvel design winner from RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology) earlier this year. @BelgianFox would know for sure. Are they playing tug-o-war with the devils?

    Wit - St. Bernardus

Lightly hazed gold (SRM 5-7), with a big, white, fluffy head that holds 2” briefly, before slowly melting over the next five minutes. Delicate Belgian lace coats the glass while fine columns of carbonation lazily float upwards.

The aroma has a pleasantly mild wheat backbone. Modest spicy yeast dances with light coriander, kicking up some dust in its wake.

Wheat bread and a mild sensation of overripe banana gives way to coriander. The coriander is mild, yet much more present than the aroma had suggested. The finish is faint and lingering. Warmth reveals unmistakable lime flavors, and generally brings significant improvements to the experience. The bitterness and sweetness are both mild and balanced.

It has a creamy, full body, with a soft Jersey cotton texture. Carbonation is modest, while the alcohol is as expected. It has a dryness front to back.

This is another great Summer beer, which I am enjoying out back while reading and watching the deer graze. Mild August days are made for beers like this one.

It is indeed a Duvel glass. I have sent Marnix glasses as Winking Lizard features them each year. My recent favorite was made by a Cleveland Institute of Art grad for 2020. See https://www.duvelartglass.com/

    Oh Yes! Cheeeers!

“St. Bernardus Tripel is a traditional abbey beer that follows the classic tripel style. In the Watou region a tripel is often referred to as a ‘Bernadetje’. A fine tribute that pays homage to Bernadette, the youngest daughter of Evariste Deconinck, the man to whom the monks of Abbaye Sainte Marie du Mont des Cats sold their Belgian property in 1934.”
