Even being local to these guys and a huge fan of their stuff in general, I’d agree that this had some divisive components. I’ve only had one or two of their phantasm iterations that I’ve really enjoyed and the others have been just okay.

[IMG] Tonight’s Blind Battle Beer Tasting Lineup:

    1) KC Bier Co Kölsch (5.1%): A Kölsch-style beer from KC with flavors of pale malts with light, dank cannabis and herbal notes. Not sure of the age on this one.
    versus
    2) 2nd Shift Kölsch (5.2%): Kölsch-style beer from Missouri with flavors of sweet green apples and vinous flavors in the yeast. Lightly tart and sweet.
    versus
    3) New Glarus Kid Kölsch (5.5%): A Kölsch-style beer from Wisconsin with flavors of red grape and vinous yeast flavors. Leans slightly sweet.

    4) BlackStack Shipping Delays (7.4% no canning date): A NEIPA from Minnesota with Idaho 7, Amarillo, El Dorado, Talus, & HBC586 for flavors of orange citrus, grapefruit, with some sweet, tropical pineapple. Relatively clean and dry.
    versus
    5) BlackStack Trust the Process (8.4% no canning date): A NEIPA from Minnesota with Simcoe & Idaho 7 for flavors of citrus, pineapple, sweet melon, papaya, and green mango.
    (All beers correctly identified blind)
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Winners:

    2) 2nd Shift Kölsch:
Very similar to New Glarus. Slightly more tart apple and sweet orchardfruit in this one. Slightly lighter and cleaner. The lightness and tartness seemed to drink slightly more to the style. Both are great.

    5) BlackStack Trust the Process: Overall these were pretty similar. But man this one nails the Idaho 7. Nice green mango notes. Slightly sweeter, but relatively clean as well. BlackStack really needs to start dating their cans so I don't have to try and remember how long this has been on the shelf. One of the best I've had from BlackStack recently.

I remember going there when they first opened. The head brewer came via NEBCO. I wonder if that's still the case. Nelson? I love it. Peace...

The only adjustment that guy needs to make to have the perfect ensemble is to replace the pants with black Z. Cavaricci formalwear with the ankles rolled like we did in the early 1990s. Then I would bow before him.

...one of a couple of personal mix CDs I made featuring Rocket the Wonder Dog on the cover...this one was just a weird, crazy exposure...I liked it...the first two songs are from that CD, the third is dedicated from me to @budsNpils (...Mrs. BG and I have seen Lyle Lovett several times in Colorado Springs, including one show that also included Guy Clark)...my parents did live in Rockport, TX for a number of years...have driven through a lot of the state, too -- the pan handle, El Paso, Fredricksburg and the Hill Country)...any way, love Lyle...

    ----------------------------------------------------

p.s. -- @budsNpils sent me two other cans of this beer earlier this year, somewhat concerned that it wasn't "fresh" (they were maybe 2-3 months old)...I still thought they were good (especially for a SMaSH)...this one at less than a month old may be a smidge better...all good, all the time...

Ascension, a NEIPA from English brewery Vocation (6.7%).

I can always enjoy an IPA single-hopped with Citra, which is a great variety that comes through very vibrant and expressive here, with all of its different facets standing out beautifully, while this features a great depth of flavor and mouthfeel for the ABV.

Still the case. They opened a multimillion dollar brewery in Cheshire earlier this year. Place is probably the best brewing facility in the state. Based on the place I'd say they're doing better than NEBCO.

Flight with Delirium Tremens, Paulaner Oktoberfest, and Weinstaphen Hefe with my lunch at Brick Anchor Brewhouse in Norfolk. A bit late because I’m old and couldn’t figure out how to post the pic from my phone. All were delicious and unique despite looking identical in the glass. *Edit I guess I still don’t know.

Knotted Root Fat and Sassy TDH DIPA (Citra, Nelson, Galaxy) courtesy of @Prager62. Orange Skittles, ripe white peach, bright passionfruit, floral, some white grape, yellow grapefruit, fresh cut grass, earthy pine resin. The two IPA's I've had by these guys have been outstanding. Legit stuff. Thanks again Jim!

I did forego my usual Saturday morning bloodies with bratwursts and may be a bit delusional, however I’m curious if you possibly left your 4-pack in the trunk of the car for too many days. Cheers, Micah!
