I, like others here, have plenty of beers that are being aged or saved for sharing or special occasions, but need to go for beer runs when different everyday ones get low on the count.
I've also been known to hoard when a beer I like will not be around for long.
Last year I took a 90 mile round trip to a TW and brought home two cases of Hennepin. Haven't seen it in my area since. Drank the last one a couple of months ago.

My beer fridge is tiny. It is really just a beer jockey for my homebrew that can fit 10 to 20 beers depending on packaging. When the beer stored on the basement steps gets under a case I need to go on a beer run. The case or two of big stouts etc. on the floor is a different story.

I have a monthly budget that I give myself for "cellar beers" which is almost exclusively barrel aged beers. As long as I don't exceed the budget and don't run out of space it's all good. That usually means between 15-40 beers sitting in my office/beer cellar at a time depending on how much I've been drinking it down.

The daily drinkers just go in the fridge with all the food and usually I buy a 4 pack of IPAs and a 4 pack of something low ABV and then restock when I hit zero or there's a new release I can't pass up. It's rare to have more than 8 beers in the fridge at a time.

Beer shopping and beer drinking are two different hobbies, my friend.

At any given moment I have about three cases of beer in my house, which, now that I think of it, are kinda categorized into three tiers:

Tier 1- Stuff in my fridge that I am planning on drinking over the next month or so. There's usually about a case of beer in my fridge.

Tier 2- Stuff that was once in my fridge that I either liked, but am no longer in the mood for/or didn't really enjoy to begin with. These beers are in my basement hanging out until I decide I'm in the mood for them or until I host family and friends and can offer it to other beer drinkers who might enjoy it. I have about a case of Tier 2 beers.

Tier 3- Beer that seemingly no one wants because it tastes bad and/or it is over-carbonated homebrew. I keep this stuff on hand for cooking (usually for par-boiling ribs before grilling them). I have about a case of Tier 3 beers as well.

Funny to think that there are like 75 beers in my house at all times, when back in the day I could only afford one six pack of Rolling Rock at a time.

I keep a pile old lambics (and similar American beers), so I don't count those. In my normal fridge there are between 10-40 bottles and cans at any one time. I typically go shopping whenever things are running pretty low or whenever I'm craving a style I don't have. I won't buy any more if it's relatively full, at least unless it's just a single purchase for the day or something.

I can’t say I buy with minimums or maximums in place. I can say that between the fridges and the cellar, I tend to have somewhere between far too much and way too much beer on hand at all times.

I have a wine fridge with a cap of 12 laying bombers and room for 8 standing cans & bottles, set at 50°.
I also keep a cedar cigar case in there.
I’m not for years & years of aging, so my rotation moves pretty much every 6-8 months.
The fridge keeps a 6 pack of ‘everyday’ beers (Cigar City Florida Man currently.,), & several pounders and stovepipes of IPAs that I pick up.
That being said, I visit my favorite bottle shops weekly for what’s new.

My beer purchases are based more on style more than amount. I always want at least three or four styles of beer in my fridge at all times--IPA, pilsner, stout or porter, a dark or pale Belgian, and a sour. Sometimes also throw in a wheat. If I am low or out of any of these styles that's what I'm going to be picking up next.
