So they brewed this to spite the Beeradvocate crowd? Or because they did it because this is what they wanted to collaborate on? Both?

For the record, a C-hop old school IPA is cool since it’s rare these days in the Northeast. Definitely in Maine.

I won’t try to guess the complete motivation, but I’d bet it was a little bit “we like each other, let’s collab” paired with “it might be a nice little mindfuck to do an IPA.”

I feel like I don’t get the last several posts here. They’re brewing two lagers at their own place that’s not yet opened, but are brewing a collab (old school) IPA at Tributary to “own the BA crowd?” And? Why is this funny or subversive on their part?

We get Tributary down here in MA, I wonder if it'll see some distro.

I can't speak for anyone else, but in the context of this thread the announcement of the first beer to have Sacred Profane on the label being an American ipa is just hilarious. Given all the hand wringing by some on this thread about whether a brewery could survive only brewing two lagers (despite the fact the linked media on this thread mentioned collaboration brews, guest bottles, and a full bar) it was just supremely amusing seeing that folks first chance to try a beer that the team had a hand in was a 16 oz can of ipa.

If it had been a pastry stout or milkshake ipa then I would know they were just trolling ba.

I guess I just don’t see the connection/hilarity between people wondering about their actual business plan of having two lagers and food at their own place and a random collab IPA brewed at Tributary, a place that makes a lot of IPAs. One really has nothing to do with the other.

    Yes, that's why I said
This thread is not the real world. It's just some beer nerds over analyzinga business none of us are involved in.

So far though none of the members who were doing the handwringing have chimed in from what I've seen.

Personally it just sounds like a solid old school IPA brewed by two excellent brewers and I hope I can taste it. That's all I care about.

I'm also excited for the first beer from the Tankovna up there. I want to try to make it there when I head to Portland in January.

Will be great to meet you! Please say hi when you swing through— I’m Erin, one of the non-brewer partners, and it’s almost certain that I’ll be in the tankpub hosting, serving, dishwashing, or maybe even on the taps if I can dial in my pouring technique enough by then

And we are absolutely stoked on the Tributary collab, hope you get to try! We are all big fans of this style, and huge admirers of Todd, his brewing legacy, and everyone at Tributary. The great thing about the collab program is the chance to keep the focus on lager brewing at home but still brew styles we love with brewers we admire and share the results with folks who visit us at the tankpub. This collab was def not intended to troll anyone— our intentions are almost dorkily earnest with the collabs but I’m ok with that. Thanks so much for following our progress and for wanting to visit, it’s super encouraging to us.

Thanks for chiming in! As a huge Portland, Maine dude, and a huge Notch/lager guy I'm ecstatic to swing by. I'll definitely reach out, I love talking to industry folk!

I hear ya on the pouring technique. I got to try a Lukr at Notch...I suck at it haha. Much respect for those that nail the pours each and every time.

Got a chance to head out to the other Portland this year. One brewery had a Lukr tap and advertised Milk pours. Needless to say the bartender didn't really know much about it. Other than that it's supposed to be mostly head and is a fun thing they do. I think it came in a frosted mug and wasn't a Mlíko...I really don't know what it was...

    Erin,

Thanks for joining in the discussion!

Is there an official date for when Sacred Profane will be open for business?

    Cheers!

Please consider trolling next time. We as a community certainly deserve it.

Announce the 3rd sacred profane beer, a traditional American lite lager brewed with nothing but barley malt, corn syrup, and hop extract. Served exclusively from a rusty old tap with a line that is never cleaned!

Nah. I think just two beers. A New England IPA and a pastry stout off Lukrs should blow people’s minds.
