before D10 came out Cory said his plan was to make every 5th entry in the Derivation series a rum barrel-aged coffee vanilla imperial stout. guess that isn’t the case considering D15. maybe quality rum barrels are hard to source. not complaint as D15 is incredible.

also, i had D5 on draft at the 2nd brewery anniversary in December 2017 (i think?) and it was damn good. no idea how it would be now though, although keg would probably keep the best i suppose.

 

last time i had b1 (maybe ~2 months ago) it was being taken over by barleywine, which i suspected would eventually happen. personally, the reason i like Continuance b1 more than For Gabe was that it seemed more imperial stout than barleywine when fresh.

 

vera mae is such a great beer.

 

Tickers gotta tick. Even if it’s not infected I’m sure it’s all green peppers, but the heart wants what it wants.

I wasn’t sure if members got this bottle or were given a chance to exchange them for a non-infected beer. I am also curious if SP destroyed all their remaining bottles. If you’re right, means there's a chance.

 

D5 was released way before LC was a thing.


The only bottles in the wild would have been bottles given to friends, employees etc

 

I agree and that’s why I like Gabe better. I find most strong ale blends the stout just overpowers it and Gabe was so perfectly balanced

 

As a barleywine lover I'll take this as good news

 

Got me completely by surprise. I’ve found floodland wine beers to be a bit to wine heavy, tho this one was spot on!

 

Fantastic! There was oxidation on the nose but zero on the flavor, tho I’m sensitive to oxidation, no one else really noticed it

edit: 2 people thought it was a stout, tho I agree about the barleywine coming thru more now than before, but the marriage of the two is so damn good on this guy

 

It’s one of the few hf I actively trade for each year, soo good, this one is better than last years outta the gate. I should have brought vintages but wanted to mix up the line up since there were only 4 of us

 

I definitely remember a picture being posted that said it was the last or second to last keg.

 

This checkin from 2017 speaks to the 2019 keg being the last.

 

Based on these findings it seems like D5 is at least a unicorn. Maybe not extinct, but might as well be. Onto the next I guess....

Yes. D4 was the last one to have a “public” release.

however, that new wine glass is pretty.

 

yea that new wine glass is awesome! im hoping they drop the glencairn again, unfortunately ive got too much sp glassware haha. HF just dropped a really sweet glass too
