Although I had 4 new beers last night at Modern Times, it just wasn't enough to fully review them. Tonight I'm drinking Dragon's Milk Triple Mash, coming in at 17.3% ABV. Thanks to @Whyteboar for sending this in BIF 15!!

Poured at fridge temp. Pours black as night with a light layer of tan head. Tons of bubbles streaming up throughout. The nose is fantastic. Tons of malts, oak, black licorice, brown sugar, and a nice dose of dark fruit. Red grapes, blackberries, and a boozy alcohol note. You can definitely tell the ABV is high from the nose, but I wouldn't guess 17.3% - something closer to 13 or 14.

The taste is pretty hot. Reminiscent of Utopias WWS. Boozy. Bourbon, chocolate, a touch of spice, molasses, raisins, shark oak, charred wood, tobacco, and coffee grounds. Really nice. I could see this improving with another year in the bottle.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied. The aftertaste is a mix of sweet and wood. Overall, really great.

    4.13/5 rDev -2.8%

    Deschutes The Ages Wild Ale, 8.0% ABV; 4.01 overall ( 2020 )

Pours a very effervescent honey color with a thumb+ of fast falling beige head. No head retention or lacing

S: Vinegar notes, floral & grassy, some barn yard notes once warm

T: Follows the nose, oaky dryness, plenty of tartness, a touch of mushroom up front, plus a little pear. Dryness, pears, white grapes/wine & oaky notes once this beer is warm. Finishers plenty dry with Chardonay notes, some pear & just a little vinegar & earthy mushroom notes

MF: Medium body, lively carbonation, feel this one clinging to the teeth for sure. Carbonation goes fairly delicate once the initial pour has run its course

True to the style, much dryness/sourness & enough fruityness to keep things under control. Nose could've brought more to the party for sure. A sipper

Crooked Stave - Surette Reserva Palisade Peach

750ml corked/caged bottle split between a pair of snulips. Harvest 2016. Bought it yesterday at Special Brews in Lynnwood, WA.

Pours a hazy dark peach-amber with very little head. Smell is mild, tart, funky.

Taste is moderately tart, more in the funky/oaky direction, definitely some stonefruit, kind of a peach pit bitterness in the finish, but overall pretty mild.

Mouthfeel is dry, light, a little still. Overall, it's not bad.

Happy Sunday. Woke up a bit late at 4 PM. Just been watching MST3K and Rifftrax of bad 60s and 70s movies. Had another crazy mikes pizza, and I made a couple packs of chicken ramen after that with the stove top kettle boiling water.

A big beer from @snaotheus from NBS BIF. Lumberbeard Anniversary Ale Year 2. Amazing English barley wine. Great head retention and spotty lacing for the big ABV. Aromas and flavors of big caramel, brown sugar, toffee, raisin, fig, date, apricot, red apple, vanilla, toasted oak, nuts, bourbon, brown bread/crust; light coconut, cinnamon, molasses, roast, herbal, grass, pepper, pine, and yeast/oaky earthiness. Increasing boozy aromas as it warms. Light-medium pine/herbal bitterness and oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full body; very creamy/silky malts, some sticky hops, oak tannins, and light syrup/slickness in the mouthfeel. Lingering sticky/tannic dryness, no cloying/astringent flavors. Mild increasing warmth of 16.2% and lingering booze after the finish. Dangerously smooth sipper for the ABV. Amazing complexity of malts and yeast ester flavors, with perfectly balanced barrel presence/integration. Not overwhelming on any aspect. This is my favorite style, and it was top tier quality as such. Loved it. 4.33

    Good evening all!
Had this one a bit earlier and was perplexed by it:
Got hand delivered by @FBarber when he visited W Michigan last April (I think it was then). Anyway, he’s sent me other beer from them and they even distribute to our area now and generally they are really good.
This one *was* really good, a very nice BA stout. Just no elements of the campfire treat known as S’mores could I discern. It was like the bourbon just overwhelmed those elements.
Everything else about this was excellent, and had I not been looking for the s’mores flavors, I would have not have even thought about it, just give it high marks and move on.
Mox nix, I enjoyed it a great deal. Thanks Frank!
(Glad your wife is doing better!)

Mirage - Tonight Was A Disaster. NE style Pale Ale. Final beer of the weekend.

16oz can served in a big snifter. Dated 2022-08-12. Bought it at Special Brews in Lynnwood yesterday.

Pours a pale white-yellow, hazy, with a small head. Smell is screaming tropical juice, melon and bubblegum.

Taste is similar, luckily with a resin bitterness to cut the juicy sweetness.

Mouthfeel is fairly light, kind of airy. Overall, this is a really nice pale ale.

You and I Iike much of the same music. If you haven't, give a listen to Fleetwood Mac and Peter Green's Black Magic Woman. He wrote the song.

[IMG] Poured into a 12 oz thin tulip glass not sure when it was canned. Pours midnight black with a finger plus sticky mocha head that leaves thin lines of lace, with nice retention. 5

Aroma is deep dark chocolate, expresso, vanilla beans, and warming alcohol. 4.5

Taste follows dark chocolate, strong black coffee, vanilla, and just a little alcohol in the bold finish. 4.75

Mouthfeel is big, maybe a little dry, plenty of carbonation, and at almost 16.0% it is bold, but still amazingly approachable. 4.75

Overall this is a treasure. You would never even know this stout is so big. Really incredible what they did with this one. 4.75

It’s the two powerful voices of Warren and Grace alternating verses it’s really good; with a bluegrass/folk of railroad earth. Check it out I think you’ll enjoy.
