Sounds like something that might be fun to try once. I can't see myself wanting something like this 4 times, but I'll buy a single if I see one. For what it's worth, their normal Oktoberfest is okay. Their yeast/process throws off some sulfur, but that doesn't bother me much.

This is a key point for me. Due to the extensive selection available to me, I can both dislike certain beers and pass on them as well as buy what I like with ease.

    Ultimate Oktoberfest? So Ayinger?

    Agreed.

And wine is poured in 3-5 oz. pours (well it's supposed to be ).

I REALLY hate it when strong beers come in 16 oz. cans.

I'd lean more towards one of the Munich 6, if for no other reason than Ayinger technically can't even call the beer an Oktoberfest.

Seems like a strange thing to wish when there are literally hundreds if not thousands of beers under 8% to drink and you follow it up with the last line. I’ll be buying and drinking several typical Oktoberfest beers as well but this seems like an interesting experiment to at least try a single. Not sure why you are wishing away its existence instead of just ignoring it.

    It’s the BA way.

Was lucky to grab the last 4-pack of this at TW. I think it's fantastic. A true mix of Octoberfest and barrel aged. Founders hit a HR here IMO. Hopefully this becomes an annual release.

Number 10 for the amber Oktoberfest style here on BA!

    Number 2 on Untappd!

2004 me would seek it out and think, "Wow, I love this. Tastes nothing like that garbage Paulaner Märzen I had the other day."

To be fair, I believe Todd did have a recent thread highlighting how the average ABV of beers on this site have steadily crept up over the years.

Sure you can ignore a single beer (and there's other choices out there), but trends do affect what's on your shelves over the years.

Just kinda weird that a 10% ABV beer is placed within the Märzen category (i.e., ABV: 5.8–6.3%).

    Cheers!

Already added? It's been trending since it hit shelves.

71 Märzens in my reviews, don't look for this one soon.

I’m not disputing that point at all! I remember when DFH 90 minute was, at least for me, a “wow, I can’t believe how strong this is!” beer. My point was just more like why bother wishing ALL beer was under 8% when there are thousands of those beers still around. Some of us like the big beers once in a while. Put it this way: Founders has 12 packs of normal strength Oktoberfest and this is a specialty four pack that’s bourbon barrel aged. Not meant to be consumed the same way. If Founders replaced the regular with this I’d say there’s more a point here.

I agree 100%. I couldn't care less what category they put it in.....................it's a damn tasty beer! I'm already almost through my second four pack.

I love that beer! The Kloster is a great place to visit if you are anywhere near Munich.

I'm a fan of Founders and of Marzens, but I didn't think that this experiment was entirely successful. I enjoyed the beer for sure, but the Marzen character was lost because of the high alcohol content.

It's been my favorite since the mid-80s and I look forward to it every year.

However, I haven't seen it anywhere in my corner of northeast Illinois yet this year -- good luck with your search.
