I'm all out of new to me oktoberfest beers. Moving on to pale lagers.

My wife grabbed a four pack of this in Ashville a few weeks ago. Seems it was brewed in collaboration with one of the players from Charlotte FC.

Resident Culture Brewing Co. recently released a limited run of No Fuchs Given, a special lager created in collaboration with professional soccer player Christian Fuchs.

The beer will be available at Bank of America Stadium during home soccer matches for the remainder of this season: July 30; Aug. 3, 6, 21 and 27; Sept. 10; and Oct. 1.

“We wanted to create a beer that is crisp, smooth and refreshing. It’s perfect for enjoying at a tailgate or at the stadium on a sunny day while watching our team take down their opponents,” explains Resident Culture co-owner Chris Tropeano.

No Fuchs Given lager has a 4.8% alcohol by volume and is available in a 16 oz. (pint) can designed by in-house staff artist Maryssa Pickett.

The black can features a fiery orange mosaic-like skull, a signature graphic for the No Fuchs Given lifestyle clothing brand with a soccer ball swishing through the eye sockets of the skull.

“No Fuchs Given is a lifestyle to me, one that I would like to share with everybody,” Fuchs said. “It’s a bold mindset to live your life with freedom and joy. Being able to serve fans at Bank of America Stadium and spread this mindset is an amazing opportunity. I’m grateful to Resident Culture and Levy for this partnership.”

Last month, Resident Culture South End hosted a fundraising event in collaboration with No Fuchs Given. The event raised $1,600 for Fuchs’ nonprofit, Foxes Sports Foundation, which provides support to disadvantaged youth soccer players.

16oz can stamped PKG 06/02/2022 (3 months ago) poured into a becher glass at fridge temp 4.8% ABV. The beer pours bright, pale yellow in color with nearly white head. The head recedes to a thin ring and scattered bubbles. The aroma is mild with orchard fruit, pale malt and mineral. The taste is more of the same with 2-row malt, a hint of apple/pear and negligible bitterness. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, ok.

Crystal clear, light golden body; dense, slow rising carbonation bubbles; thick, white head, partially creamy texture with sculpted looks. Refreshing delicate malt nose; light biscuit; light citrus element; floral. Light, clean taste; slight malt sensation; light to moderate hop bitterness; touch of white wine. Light body; crisp; delicate.

While the taste lacks depth with malt flavors, the beer as a whole is light, clean and refreshing.

Pours a hazy, dark orange coloration with a large, fluffy head. Smells of light biscuity malt and tropical/citrus/stone fruit hops, with notes of passion fruit, grapefruit and peach as well as some dank and herbal weed.

Taste is an excellent balance of light biscuity malt and fruity, juicy, dank, slightly herbal and earthy hops, with tropical, citrus, stone fruit and berry notes of passion fruit, lychee, grapefruit, peach and gooseberry, as well as distinct herbal, spicy weed. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some passion fruit, papaya, grapefruit and weed lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This is certainly not called Double Dank for nothing, with a super dank character of herbal, spicy weed, as well as quite juicy and vibrant tropical, citrus, stone fruit and berry notes as well though. The range of flavors really is amazing here and everything is just so expressive and well-defined about this, with a great balance of sweet, zesty, acidic, dank and bitter notes. Very impressive body and mouthfeel for the ABV as well, I'm really looking forward to the imperial version of this now.

Overall this makes for an incredible NEIPA, one of the best I've ever had for my personal prefernce, with an amazing range. depth of flavor, balance and mouthfeel. Proof once again that Cloudwater makes some of the finest IPAs in the world.

Happy Labor Day Weekend, NBW. I have a couple of beers today. The first is one I’ve sat on for close to two years (I’m a BA “holder” from WAAAAY back) from a favorite brewery of mine that I’m breaking out for the last summer holiday.

    Let’s do this.

Pours a dark mahogany brown and settles in the glass that color with a floating sediment that is warned about on the box insert after my very aggressive pour. Sitting atop this beauty of a beer is a luxurious, creamy tan head that sticks around for a bit. Absolutely gorgeous beer.

The nose is a head turner, with lots of rich cocoa, a significant oak component, a little booze (tequila), and stone fruit in the form of dark cherries. Wow.

The taste is a true amalgamation of all the aromas, with the cocoa, oak, and tequila most prominent, but a very healthy stone fruit flavor for a seductive twist to the flavor journey this beer takes you on, especially as it warms.

The mouthfeel is rich and voluptuous, fitting a beer of this gravity. I’m a fan of F-W in general, and a HUUUUUGE fan of their barrel program. This beer is a magnificent representation of their prowess in that arena.

Body pours a nice orange with a thick foamy head. Very good lacing throughout. Nice looking beer.

Nose is a big tropical mix with ripe mango and citrusy flavors. Taste follows nose and adds a sturdy malt backbone. Not much bitterness to speak of, just a trace on finish. Hoppy but only in a generic sense. I'm not familiar enough with the Yakima Cryopop line to judge use.

A very soft mouthfeel and nice carbonation. Easy drinking and smooth with no sign of the ABV.

A surprisingly delicious, low bitterness beer from breweries that made their names on bitter, hoppy beer. Good to experiment I suppose. I hope to try this one on tap.

Yes, I've copied and pasted the first part of this review from Double Dank DDH IPA just because the flavor profiles are so similar to me here, with the differences mainly lying in the balance. This actually feels a bit less dank than the single version, but more juicy, with the tropical and stone fruit notes standing out more and the citrus and berry notes a little less, while I'm getting a bit more blueberry than gooseberry from this as well.

Hardly a hint of the higher ABV to this, not feeling boozy at all, but a bit more intense and less well-defined, a typical effect of imperial IPAs to me. I cxouldn't pick a favorite of the two, while they are a little different, they sure both are great in their own way, two of the finest IPAs I've ever tasted.

Good evening, NBS/W peeps. Gorgeous pre-fall day here in the stronghold. We did get some much needed rain this past week. The garden is almost done, none of our fall squash and such made it, but we have had an excellent heirloom tomato harvest. Vine ripe tomatos fresh from the yard are one of the true joys of summer along with local corn.

Anyway, let's get to tonight's volunteer. Odd one for me, but ya gotta be flexible.

River Styx Brewing Aphrodite #6, the Mai Tai variant, a 5% "sour" with pineapple, orange, and lime. I've never had a Mai Tai, so I'll take their word for it. I see on some other beer site that this beer has cherry - it certainly does not. The brewery site says it was aged on cherry and almond - not finding either. The label says lime, the brewery web site does not.

Pours with an exuberant but fortunately short-lived head that falls to absolutely nothing. The color is pale orange, kinda like pineapple juice with cloud and no pulp.

The smell is straight up pineapple with a little orange and even fainter lime, thankfully.

So it tastes like pineapple orange juice with a hint of lime. That's it. Show's over, folks. If there's a base beer it is inundated by the citrus. Mildly tart, slightly sweet, and the lime is blessedly restrained.

It feels fairly thick and barely carbonated. A little sweetness residual. The lack of carbonation and sweetness keeps it from being a Fanta flavor variant.

Ok...I am not a lime fan and I have had several beers where it is obnoxious. This isn't one of those, but I am struggling to even barely call this a beer. I like it in terms of flavor, but I might toss a few ice cubes in those thing. It's not in the data base with other iterations, do I guess I will add it. I can give it kudos for being an enjoyable beverage, but low marks for being a beer. Maybe a 3.0?

Clear, medium amber colored body; thick carbonation; huge head; dense and foamy. Big caramel sweetness; mild earthy hop aroma. Okay flavor; slight caramel sweetness; moderate bitterness; not much else. Medium body; nice residual sugar velvet feel; mildly prickly on the tongue.

A decent beer but seems a little weak and watery for the style in the taste and mouthfeel.

#2, is from the Extreme Beer Fest box earlier this year, and the one beer style a bit outside of my comfort zone (kettle sour). Let’s see where this beer takes us.

Pours a clear golden color with a sizzling, sudsy white head that speeds away from this beer and loads of bubbles climbing the glass. Tart green apples lead the nose, and are joined by a nice lemon lime aroma. This is like an apple cider 7-Up on my amateur nose.

The lemon lime is forward on the taste, with tart, sour apples in the background. This drinks really easily for an 8% ABV, primarily because the mouthfeel is so bright and crisp.

I’m not the biggest sour fan, but this is really well done, IMHO.

Missed the edit wondow, but I am quite confused by that Aphrodite #6 I just drank. The label says pineapple, orange, and lime and has the contains nuts warning as would be required, but nowhere does it say cherry or almonds.

The web site description mentions pineapple and orange, NO lime, and that the beer has cherry and almond.

I taste everything on the label, no cherry and no almond.

Big shrug on this one...I can see where a description could be incorrect in translation, but here the brewery description and label don't match. The missus agrees, so that mean I can't be wrong, right???

My first beer to go in my oktoberfest mug this year. Grabbed a single when I stopped by the brewery a few weeks ago while up in Connecticut.

    OEC - Oktoberfest

Pours incredibly cloudy, like swirled around hefeweizen bottle cloudy, amber with hints of orange color; puffy off white head that settles quite quickly but leaves a decent little cap.

Nose is interesting as it has a very interesting mix of floral and herbal hops, very aromatic. Underneath is a minor toasted bread like quality with some minor sweetness.

The taste took me by surprise as the aromatic nose that first greeted me all but dissapears and this beer becomes much more marzen like. It is heavy on toasted bread, little bit of old world hops on the finish and a very minor sweet note; there is something yeasty on the finish.

Mouthfeel is very nice; medium/light body full feel but very drinkable, semi dry with little to no bitterness.

This beer is pretty tasty; it look is far from nice and the aroma caught me off guard but taste and feel and quite good. I'm enjoying the beer but one is fine for me for this one. They also call this a festbier but to me this is marzen pretty much all the way.

Hoping to fit in a few new ones tomorrow too.

Massive roasty and chocolate nose and taste with a pleasant finish. I would drink pleanty of these if they distributed 4 packs anywhere near me for a fair price.
All I've seen are bottles and for the price they charge there are much better options on shelves .

A special one tonight. Sent to me by the extremely generous @Roguer in BIF 14. I've been waiting for the right time and, as we all know, there is never a better time than now. Meet Charleywine, a barleywine aged in both French apple brandy barrels and rye whiskey barrels.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours dark brown with a tiny layer of head. The nose is full of brandy. Wow. This compliments the subsequent notes of toffee, figs, prunes, tobacco, and vanilla. A bit of oak, and a rye spice come through after the intense wave of brandy subsides. I could just smell this all night. I almost don't want to take a sip for fear of being disappointed. Expectations are high.

The taste doesn't disappoint, but it doesn't quite match the nose. The booze is a bit intense, spreading a burn as it descends down the throat. The brandy is still the main character, but the rye competes here. I can't say that I have ever tried a barleywine aged in both brandy and rye barrels. Great combination. A bitter oaky flavor meets the sweet fruity flavor. Also getting tobacco, a touch of coffee, lots of vanilla, some burnt toffee, raisins, molasses, and figs. Very much a sipper.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a nice sweet/bitter aftertaste. Overall, a wonderful barleywine. I'm savoring every sip.
