Sounds very intersting. With that Rye malt bill first beer I though of was Alpine Nelson. Apparently there are similarities....

Pretty simple pork and rice bowls. Delicious, though. :grinning:

It's about time for round two. Two meals in one day? Well, when you only get one day at home the entire week ... yeah!

Clear, golden yellow body; sparse carbonation; head initially about two-fingers thick, fades to about half-height yet remains persistent. Very nice cracker and bread crust nose. Light malt flavor; mineral; moderate hop bitterness; light herbal note, thyme. Medium body; crisp and dry.

The brewery has a fine flagship beer with this offering.

    -------------------------------------------------------------

...rode my bicycle to the brewery (3+ miles one-way) to meet up with Mrs. BeerGoot and a neighbor...there was another neighbor couple with a booth at the brewery for the Maker's Market event being held on the grounds...back home now after helping Mrs. BG find her iPhone she left in the car she road in to the event...I'm back to making split pea and ham soup and dehydrating some farmer's market Zest Star apples we picked up yesterday...I foresee more beer and football rounding out my afternoon...

I served brisket to 15 people at the house yesterday, so I saved my new beer for today. This is a 7% flavored NEIPA from Beerd.

Poured from a 16oz can stamped 08/16/22 OUT OF CLUTTER COMES SIMPLICITY to a Nonic at fridge temp.
This pours milky deep orange and looks like an apricot smoothie. A medium white head sits above and laces generously after fading.
Upon opening the can there was a brief floral hop aroma. However, after the pour the aroma got weird. Kind of like spoiled fruit juice with a hefty helping of vanilla.
The taste is just as surprising. I want to say fruit is so ripe it's spoiled. This is not for me.
Mouthfeel is creamy thick and if it had a good flavor to back it up it would be great.
This could be a bad can or just bad for my taste buds.
Some of my guests drank this yesterday and never said a thing to me. Oh well.

Hey NBS and Happy Labour Day!
Starting with a new to me brewery located in Missouri- Narrow Gauge.
OJ Run IIPA brewed with Citra, Galaxy, Amarillo and Apollo.
Pours a hazy orange/gold with a nice 2 finger eggshell head with great retention, leaving rings of sticky lacing.
Big sweet orange on the nose with pineapple and grapefruit.
Taste follows with sweet citrus, some tropicals that finishes with a pine and rind bitterness.
The oats soften the edges on the feel with tiny carb and a pretty darn bitter finish. Quite balanced and highly drinkable for the unnoticeable 8.6% that creeps up. This is some tasty juice. Really nice brew. If NG beers are all like this Im a fan.
    Cheers![IMG]

Drekker BRAAAAAAAAins Mango/Lemon/Lime Double Fruit Smoothie Sour, 6% ABV. Pours thick and opaque bright yellow with a ring of yellow bubbles. Nose is mango, lemon, lime, and vanilla. Taste follows, moderately sweet, slightly tart. Excellent mouthfeel with perfect carbonation. Overall outstanding. They muted the lemon and lime quite well to prevent them from stealing the show.

    Good afternoon BA
I've got random beers from all over the spectrum lined up for the rest of this weekend. First up
    [IMG]
    Lucky Buddha Enlightened Beer
12oz green bottle stamped 2731 17:55 poured into a vintage pint glass at fridge temp 4.8% ABV. Label says it's brewed and bottled at Matt Brewing NY. The beer pours bright, very pale gold with off white head. The head recedes to a pencil thin ring and island leaving rings of lacing after each sip. The aroma is skunk, hay and light malt in that order. The taste is semisweet, slightly skunky, with a hint of malt and hay. Minimal bitterness. The mouthfeel is thin bodied with above average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, ok rice beer.

    Cheers!

Howdy NBW. OEC - Solstice, a heller bock with the usual decoction, step mashing, open ferment and fodering. Mistral is the dry hop, there's galaxy and hallertau blanc in the bittering.

Looks hazier than it is, now the fridge chill has waded away. It's not see through but is transparent-adjacent. Smells of oats and malt sugar, sweet and a touch of hay. There's some estery character on the nose, but maybe it's yeast

Tastes good. I sort of hoped it would taste boozier, at 6%, it really doesn't. There's a rustic, maybe old world hop character and malt character. Which is perhaps ironic because it's very refined in that. Hop character carries it through the end, almost some fruity character, which I suppose must be down to mistral. There's a grape must, pithiness, maybe some bitterness but in an herbal sense. Very nice beer.

    Hitachino Sweet Stout
11.2oz bottle coded SS.21.6 i poured into a perfect pint glass at fridge temp 4% ABV per label. The beer pours dense dark brown with no light penetration and huge light brown head. The head eventually settles to a thick, uneven cap. The aroma is mild with unsweetened cacoa and lactose. The taste is tangy, semisweet dark malt with notes of cocoa and coffee. Moderate bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with above average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, goodish. I suspect age may have been a factor.

A definite turbid and dull looking pale color brew. Milky in appearance but not all that thick on the pour. A decent khaki foam capper appears in the Nordic glass. Minimal hang time and only light spotted lacing throughout the drink.

Aromas hit first with a green hop powder note. Like poppin' a fresh Mylar baggy. Then rolls in the fruity tropics leading with mango, passion fruit, and spicy papaya. Lesser notes of fresh sliced peach and some bitter melon. There is a touch of "cattiness" on it which is best describer I can think of.

This beer slaps with all kinds of wild tropical fruit essence. Has me searching here...mostly mango, papaya, passion fruit, zesty orange juice, lemon-line, closing out with a fruity spice note. There is an undeniable hop bitterness on the back end that lends to a resinous puckery finish and minimal burn. Very well balanced and extremely light on its feet for a 10% TIPA. Drinks like most singles.

This hop combo is a winner in my book.

All North Park IPAs have been great to me but they have a handle on the TIPA game better than anyone else I know...this one is no exception.

    Cheers Advocates :beers:

Happy Sunday. Its been our 23 month anniversary weekend. Hard to believe that's when I moved to Ohio and I moved to NC just A year ago. Things are amazing. Went hiking in eno river park yesterday. Slept in to 1pm. We watched the Andromeda strain on my chromecast last night and it was amazing. Pretty spot on book interpretation. We went to Golden fig books and spent $90. I found fight club finally lol.

Full steam rocket science ipa. Great west coast. Aromas and flavors of red grapefruit, orange, lemon, apricot, melon, citrus rind, wood, peppercorn, pine, cracker, toast, herbal, floral, grass. Good sized pine/rind bitter finish. Medium carb and body. Bready/grainy/sticky/resinous mouthfeel. Fairly crisp long resin drying finish with mild astringency. Awesome vibrant and dank centennial and Amarillo profile with an aggressive west coast bitter finish. Spot on stuff. Reminds me of stone ipa a lot. 4

Good Sunday afternoon, New Beer Samplers and commentators. What a lovely late summer afternoon! But I do hope we get the forecasted rain. This summer's drought has been bad; I've lost a skip laurel and it appears a blue spruce, as well.

I've been wanting to try Founders' Ultimate Oktoberfest albeit with reservation. I love drinking Märzens in the Fall and I generally like bourbon barrel-aged beers. But would a BBA Märzen work? My answer is, I don't know. I can't decide whether this was a great idea or a terrible one. Would I rather drink a few regular Oktos or a dram or two of Makers Mark? The jury is out for me.

It pours a hazy, honey-amber color with a half finger of creamy, ecru-colored head and lacing. The barrel really influences the smell; the bourbon notes are subtle but distinct. There is also an unexpected grassy aroma. Only as it warms a bit do I detect the nutty caramel in the nose. The bourbon taste is very unique. It's quite strong at first. But as it warms the Märzen taste emerges. It has a good, creamy mouth feel with pleasant carbonation, and it's definitely big at 10% ABV. Overall, this is one of those "only in America" beers. To me, the notion of an "Imperial Märzen" is oxymoronic and while the idea of a bourbon-barrel aged Oktoberfest is intriguing, it's also a bit gimmicky. I guess Founders has achieved its goal with this beer but I can't help but think it's messing with something sacrosanct.

Our son and soon-to-be daughter in law used to live about a block from Fullsteam - in a tobacco warehouse converted to apartments - so we've been there several times. Nice place and decent beer. Have you been to Durty Bull yet? (I should probably review all the posts before asking that question, LOL). Cheers, Ian!

I'll still never forget some of the experiences I had when our kids had their permits. Like trying to tell my daughter, in an calm tone of voice, that she was making a left into oncoming traffic. Yikes! It was years ago but the thought of it makes me want to grab another beer.

    Narrows - Tempest

12oz can obtained recently from a local CSA, but no date on the can that I can see.

Pours light yellow, lightly hazy, about three fingers of coarse head that starts to settle into a very rocky, clumpy pile. Smell is slightly spicy and leans a little toward cut greens and citrus with a noticeable doughy/yeasty aroma.

Taste is definitely toward the cut greens and lemon. A little bit of a soapy/herbal note.

Mouthfeel is light, airy, and dry. Overall, it's not bad.

I opened this on Friday evening and capped to finish today. I’ll call it new today as it is the same bottle…

    Toppling Goliath Shadow Raptor.

Pours a thick deep black/brown. A little cappuccino head that disappears to nothing within 30 seconds.

Lots going on in the nose. Stewed boozy fruits, vanilla, whiskey. A little red licorice too. Very rich.

The taste follows. Rich stewed fruit, vanilla, a hint of dark chocolate on the finish. Lovely barrel throughout, without being boozy.

Full bodied but not thick or ‘sludgey.’

This is a top notch vanilla stout. Perhaps the best I’ve had. I’d more than welcome another bottle. Cheers!

I will go, eventually. I have a long list of things to see. We will be back super soon. Staycation without being over a hour from the cats :kissing_heart:.

Fullsteam k[alt] classic. Fantastic altbier. Mellow aromas of caramel, nutty, tobacco, herbal, wood, grass, yeast earth; very clean and not fruity. Taste of caramel, brown sugar/bread/crust, roasted nuts, toast, wood, peppercorn, pine, herbal, floral, grass, light cocoa/molasses/yeast earth. Lt med pine/herbal/rind bitter finish. Medium carb/body. Balanced creamy/bready malt and sticky hop mouthfeel. Light resins and lingering drying, min astringent or warmth of 6.5%. Spot on clean/rich melanoidin malt complexities, balanced hops and restrained yeast. Maybe a bit too bitter for the style, but i loved it. 4.25

Brewers Notes: Permutation is our experimental series of small batch offerings, showcasing the unique visions and innovative concepts developed by our production crew. The names are sequential, reflecting the brewing year in Trillium's lifespan, followed by a recipe indicator.

Like Permutation 7.06, we took the approach and techniques utilized with our Mettle Alloy series of hoppy beers and applied them to a variety of cellared Imperial Stouts with complementary profiles.

Displaying its pitch-black viscosity as soon as it's pouring into the glass, Permutation 7.09 opens up with aromas of creamy chocolate milk, toasted hazelnut, and subtle fresh-ground coffee beans. Over time, the beer begins to show secondary notes of vanilla almond milk and gentle coconut. A medium body, well-integrated adjunct profile, and slight warming character all come together in a harmonious slow-sipping drinking experience.

    HOPS: ?
ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS: Coffee, Vanilla, Peanut Butter, Marshmallows, Lactose, Bananas, Figs, Chocolate, Coconut, Pecans, Macadamia Nuts, Almonds

Bomber poured into a Spiegelau glass, black motor oil capped by a dense fizzy brown one finger foam layer

    Aroma is cocoa powder

Taste is cocoa powder, chocolate , bit of hazelnut, vanilla, coffee without the acrid sharp bite

Lighter mouthfeel for an imperial stout , smooth, rich, sweet, abv is well hidden

    Good beer

Greetings, all. Busy weekend for me with mom on town. Didn't think I'd try any new beers, but then I ran into Dinner, a well known (at least in beer nerd circles) beer from Maine Brewing Company on tap.

I've never come across this highly regarded beer, so was pleasantly surprised to see it on tap when I was out to dinner last night. The appearance was that of.....beer. Cloudy and medium yellow, with almost no head. The lack of head could certainly be chalked up to the fact that it had probably been a minute or two between the pour and its arrival at my table. Regardless, while there was nothing wrong with the appearance, nothing particularly stood out either.

The nose was a different story. I'm desensitized to IPA aromas at this point, but this beer smelled amazing Loads of citrus, mango and other tropical notes. Simply an excellent smelling beer.

The taste was very nice, but not as tropical as the nose. Grapefruit was the only taste I could pick out, but whatever else was there it was above average, but didn't blow me away (keeping in mind I'm not a big lover of IPAs). The feel, however was amazing. Very full, creamy and pillowy. Absolutely excellent.

Overall, I though this was a very good beer, led by the aroma and the feel. I hope to be able to luck into some bottles sometime right around a NBS BIF so I can share it with others.
