Imperial Stout Appreciation Thread (2022)

This was alright. It's from one of my local breweries, so I like to support them. But they really shouldn't be doing this stuff yet.



Here's a hot take: I don't really like fruity stouts.

couldn’t wait to crack a stout tonight. went with the heavily adjuncted barrel-aged kind. really good, but really filling. took my time with this one. happy friday!

 

The bottle of Westbrook Brewing's Mexican Coffee Cake that I brought back from South Carolina.

Wonderful aroma of espresso, dark cocoa, a touch of smokey pepper. Similar taste, the cinnamon is earthy and the chili has a bit of a kick but it's not overpowering, it just complements the other flavors. Thick, full bodied, silky feel.

pastry stout at 13% abv

Canned 6.13 , opened 9.10, poured into a Spiegelau snifter

Brewers Notes: Pastry stout brewed with chocolate, toasted almond, coconut, lactose and marshmallow.

Thick viscous 10w40 motor oil produces a dense creamy brown foam cap , good retention that settles to a pencil thick layer after five minutes, some spotty lacings

Aroma is chocolate , vanilla , coconut

Taste is sweet vanilla marshmallows, almond, coconut , chocolate

Mouthfeel is thick and syrupy , very sweet, I like sweet but this almost too sweet ..where can I get an insulin shot ?

Good beer , high abv and sweet makes this a sipper

stout ?!

 

Pint can dated 7/22/22. Poured chilled into a snifter.
Unremarkable entrance, thin veil of foam, bubbles.,
Smell isn’t coffee, surprisingly, this being a ‘coffee stout’ and all., some cocoa, vanilla bean.,
Feel is dense for 10% ABV, little fizz.
Overall, this fresh stout doesn’t deliver in the promise of a ‘colada’ - a blast of sweet Cuban coffee - but is well enough made as an adjunt Stout that it’s hard to just dismiss it as false advertising.,.

A short horn of Flor de Cana ‘Spresso’ coffee rum poured in the snifter with the last drink really really tied this brew together!

 

imbibing a little early on this rainy Sunday as i needed something to get me through cleaning and house chores. this was extremely coconut-forward yet just as much barrel as coconut. well done barrel-aged imperial stout. enjoyed every sip. got especially good at the end after hitting room temp.

 

Pilgrimosipher. That’s a grate new word!

 

Hands down, one of the best Imperial Stouts out there. I'm fortunate to live close to the brewery, and it's available in most local stores.

 

What is this beer and the brewery?

 

It's not a matter of it being a bad beer. It's a matter of not supporting union busting companies like InBev or Chipolte or McDonald's. Fuck them all. With a waffle ball bat. Inserted sideways.

Pretty good, would buy a 4-pack for sure if given the opportunity . Cafe Deth is my favorite of the whole lineage that I’ve had.
