A Rant on Beer Influencers

I agree with @cavedave. Maybe he and I are just old guys but I don't "follow" anyone. I do respect the opinions of certain BAs, based upon reading their posts over many years, but in the final analysis I decide what I like or don't. I guess I'm my own "influencer."

 

False @MacMalt you influenced me to buy slack tide and I’ve been happy with every beer I’ve had from them

 

If we drink a beer recommended by somebody like that is it Drinking Under The Influencer?

 

I hit that stage about 10 years early it seems. I also don’t have a single social media account, haven’t for many years at this point. Best life decision I’ve ever made.

That being said, I do enjoy my BA “likes” if anyone wants to throw me a bone…..

You are complaining on the wrong platform my dude.

This kinda of comment may be better suited on the "influencers" platform of choice on social media. Also why the mention of Cicerones? For what it's worth I am a level one Cicerone and dont know what the hell you are talking about.

Mabey you should include some example of what you mean.

 

What social media are you following if you're seeing hyped pils and hating on haze? Almost all I see on social media is stouts and hazy IPAs.

 

Overall I don’t have issues with the influencers, unless they are spewing hate. I can easily just ignore them. It would also seem that most/all have a narcissistic complex.

 

The best influencers that I ever followed were the outstanding teachers and coaches that I was fortunate enough to get to know. This includes elementary, Junior high, senior high and college. These people, many of whom I still see, helped me chart my life with knowledge and kindness. It can be a beautiful cycle.

 

It brainwashes vulnerable or naive people. U think those girls on there really look like that? With the ass all the way out the underwear pulled up over their hips to make it look like they have something and these young people thinking that's what they supposed to look like. Unrelated to beer but in relation to beer the beer people getting VIP tickets for Atlantic city beer fest getting free stuff and making stuff out to be super hype. Like stated before if u become popular online for any reason you become more or less a salesperson of some kind

 

Nah, those guys are always drinking Pliny and Heady and Julius and stuff. I don't pay any attention to them. Apropos of nothing, I'm planning a couple of beer trips soon.

Only 6 likes overnight. I guess my experiment has proven that I don’t have what it takes to become a beer influencer.

I have no social media outside of BA, I dont think Untappd is considered social media. I do follow my BIL and an old co worker there and Augie Carton wants to follow me but I won’t accept, never met him don’t know him but by his beer.

Influencers is a word I laugh at. I don’t have issue with folks hyping things up, that’s what companies do to sell things. Feels like this web influence is just another piece of that pie. From the limited experience I have seen of influencers I have to give them props for working an angle and keeping up with things. I’m sure it’s not easy and probably a lot of work to get to where the most influential ones are. Many companies give away free product with the hope of good reviews. Beer is no different.

I will just keep slogging along at work, no interest to be an influencer. If anyone wants to send me free beer that’s all good. Thanks in advance, I will give you respect here in the BA pages.
