Light yellow body; dense carbonation; nice head, white, semi-creamy, lasting. Fantastic light malt and gentle sweetness on the nose; very subdued hop spiciness. Good flavors; light bread crust sensation; moderate hop bitterness; a touch of mineral-like quality. Medium-light body; smooth; soft and light residual sugar presence; not really sweet, not really dry mouthfeel, well-balanced.

This is a pleasant, unassuming beer with nice balance and enough flavor and character to be above average.

    O zapft is!!!

    its time for Oktoberfest!

Updated review , they were having their Oktoberfest when I picked this up. Wish I could have sat and listened to the Oompah band and had some wursts

Brewers notes: Our Oktoberfest is brewed with a blend of light and Munich Malts, which not only add to its depth but deliver a residual sweetness. Caramel and toffee notes linger but are balanced by the subtle hops additions in this beer. We use Hallertau and Tettnanger hops which add a floral yet peppery aroma to this beer. It’s our take on this traditional fest beer.

12oz can poured into an 1860 Munich Beer Stein

Three finger taupe foam crown over a translucent copper liquid with numerous carbonation micro -streams, very good retention, settles to a frothy one finger layer, good lacings

I smell malt, whiff of toffee, brown bread

taste is malt with hoppy bitterness, I usually taste more malt sweetness

mouthfeel is smooth, quaffable, the hoppy taste lingers nicely, semi dry, quenching finish

    Good beer

Drekker Chonk Sundae Sour with White Chocolate and Peach, 6.4% ABV. Pours opaque bright orange with a big-bubble 4+ finger light orange head that just won't dissipate even 30 minutes later! I'm having to "eat" it, leaving a foamy mess on the glass and in my mustache. Nose is chocolate and peach, taste follows with chocolate stealing the show, faint tartness, moderate sweetness, and slight hop bitterness. Decent creamy mouthfeel, overall outstanding.

I'm bummed. Right before bed last night, I noted that a local taproom had Toppling Goliath Assassin with the keg 76% full, a week after their annual fall beerfest. I planned to be there when they opened today, but they either took it off to save for their winter beerfest, or they hadn't updated it and it blew. Damn.

    Morning, fellow NBWers,

This week started out unseasonably hot and choked with wildfire smoke, but wind and rain from the west pushed that out. By this weekend, the weather has returned to what is typical for mid-September around here. Last night, when I ventured out after watching the Dawgs defeat Michigan St, I wore jeans for the first time since June. Right now, it's 61° and mostly cloudy.

Yesterday, after getting some chores done around Schloss Woemad, I went up the hill to Bennidito's Pizza for a late lunch. I had an Italian Calzone and a pale ale brewed at Bennidito's Brewpub, located east of downtown.
As can be seen, Bennidito's Good Ole' Pale Ale was clearly an unfiltered example of an American west coast style pale ale. This was pretty much a throwback to an old school, late 90-early 00s pale, and, while being nothing revelatory, pleasantly accompanied my food.

Heading back down the hill to grab some laundry out of the dryer and watch the UW game, I stopped by Huckleberry's to see if any fresh hop beers were available. I found exactly one, and it was the last one on the shelf.

Magnificent Simcoe-hopped Fresh Hop WCIPA. Also, only 4 Days Old!

I've got a couple new beers on deck today, but I probably won't get to them until after the Seahawks - 49ers game.
    Cheers!

Aroma is mango, peach, tangerine, pineapple, and apricot pretty darn impressive. 4.75

Taste follows mango, peach, tangerine, pineapple, and apricot big tropical flavor and low bitterness. 4.75

Mouthfeel is above average, soft gentle carbonation, not sticky or dry, and at 8% really easy going down. 4.5

@SABERG that Oktoberfest has probably been my favorite this year for the marzens, I’m hoping it will continue to be a seasonal for them into the future. Let’s keep the sales up everyone, go buy a six or 12 pack.

Oh, and last night, after my college football watching was done, I strolled downtown and visited a couple breweries that were participating in the West End Oktoberfest.
At Golden Handle I had no new beers (apart from a sample of a bonkers strong ale from Matchless that was on as a guest taps), but I did get to see a greyhound celebrating Oktoberfest.
That's Eowyn and Danny. I'll let y'all work out which is which.

A short stroll from Golden Handle to Whistle Punk saw me dispatch a new Marzen from the latter brewery.
Pictured here with bartender and Whistle Punk spokesmodel Dutch in the background, it was everything a Marzen/Oktoberfestbier should be.

Had another from the can after the taps were clean.

Irish Amnesia a 7.1ABV West Coast IPA from Opportunity Brewing Opportunity Brewing is located in Flemington NJ but they don’t brew beer, this beer was brewed by Berleo Snort Brewing in Carlstadt NJ. Irish Amnesia pours a bright gold with a thick white long lasting head. The aroma is strong of malt and spice. The complex taste is balanced between the malts and the hops. The finish is slightly bitter. The grain bill consists of Loughran pale ale, Pilsner, Munich and Caramel malts. The hops used are Chinook,Cascade, Centennial, Columbus and Amarillo. Overall this is an excellent IPA complex and balanced.

Crunch a peanut butter coffee stout.
    Very nice easy drinking stout

Pours dark brown with a chocolate colored head, slight lacing
Aroma of peanut butter, coffee and chocolate

Taste is slightly bitter mocha coffee and peanut butter. Coffee up front and a lingering chocolate/ peanut butter finish

Mouthfeel is a bit thin, not real heavy or creamy. Slightly bitter black coffee feel, low carbonation

Overall despite the fairly strong peanut butter aroma it is nicely layered. Thin feeling but chewy flavors. Nicely done.

Greetings all from the great northwest where we are still celebrating the Seahawks win from Monday night. The rest of the season may be a disaster, but a win over Russell Wilson and a high first round draft pick in the spring could help take the sting out of a dismal season.

Today we have Hazestack Imperial IPA from Pelican Brewing.

Good Sunday afternoon, New Beer Samplers and commentators. In my opinion one of the great joys of Beer Advocacy is having the opportunity to sample a beer from across the country that you've seen others enjoy over the years. Today is such an opportunity. I received this can of Elevated IPA from LaCumbre Brewing Company in Albuquerque from @lordofthewiens. I've watched him - and others - drink it for years now. It seems to be especially enjoyable after a good round of golf, LOL. It's a terrific American IPA with a very sophisticated malt bill. It has great depth of flavor but in a low key, confident way. If it were available in my market, then it would fill my glass often. Many thanks, Dick!

Canned on 8/12/2022. Poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass. It pours a hazy, bright honey-gold color with 2+ fingers of fluffy, egg white head and rings of thick, clinging lacing. The nose is malty and earthy with floral hops and notes of lemon and grapefruit. It opens with a strong dose of caramel malt which gives it a sweetness that counters the hoppy bitterness (100 IBU). It has a brown bread quality that is most appealing. I assume this comes from the sophisticated grist bill that includes Bairds Carastan and Durst Munich malts. I don't believe I've seen that combination in an IPA. The Mosaic and Citra hops add citrus and a hint of red berry as the ale warms and there is plenty of bittering from the Centennial and Chinook. The wild card is the use of Nelson Sauvin which is deep in the background. The tastes blend wonderfully. This ale is a nice, creamy mouth feel with pleasant carbonation and while the 7.2% ABV give it good substance, it's very easy to drink. Overall, Elevated is simply outstanding! An excellent recipe - well executed.

Welcome all to New Beer Sunday #917! Returning with my second new to me brewery, this one alive and well. I was in Vegas when they hit Chicago for their first drop in mid-August, and all The Beer Temple had left was a NEIPA I passed on (at least for now) and this beer.

    Fair State Brewing Cooperative Festbier

Can Notes: $14.31 w/ tax four pack 16 oz cans from the Beer Temple purchased refrigerated 9/7 and refrigerated over the past 11 days until opening. Canned 7/25/22. Lager beer, 5.7% ABV, German Style Party Lager. Crisp, bready, malty, nuanced but crushable oktoberfest lager.

Union Made, Cooperatively Owned. Brewed by Fair State Brewing Cooperative, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Appearance: First pour, a little over half the can, center pour into a tall stein. Very generous creamy soupy head covers half the glass for a few minutes, sustained for a very long time with light lacing in its wake. Medium to heavy carbonation visable through the clear golden straw colored base. Looks great. 4.5

Aroma: Strong bold enticing aroma, cracker, grassy, nice malt, not too sweet. 4.5

    Taste:
Not as complex as the aroma. Bread leads, malt a bit sweeter than the aroma would lead, not getting the grassy notes. Faint salt and pepper. Sweeter and less hoppy than Festbiers I prefer, more like a standard lager than a Marzen. 3.5

Mouthfeel: Fizzy carbonation sustained throughout, light to medium somewhat creamy body, very light and easy drinking, gets saltier as I continue, but I believe that's my warped sensitive palate when it comes to salt. Clean finish. 4.0

Overall: This is a good beer, though not necessarily consistent with many Festbiers with the sweetness. Would consider this a lager/festbier/marzen hybrid. Enjoyable good beer, will enjoy the other three, but not one I'd likely return to with others in the market. 3.75

Still excited to try Fair State's next drop of beers here, hopefully later this month. Now that my baseball is wrapping up the week, I'm ready to catch up with the beers you are enjoying this weekend. Cheers!

Golden orange body, tangerine-like; mild haziness; thick, slow-rising carbonation; huge head, white and rocky. Mild bready malt aroma. Nice flavor; zesty and malty; moderate to bold hop bitterness; very faint citrus quality; some phenol-like notes. Heavy body; velvety residual sugar feel; subdued alcohol note; fairly dry overall.

This is a decent beer, perhaps a bit old as I didn't get a lot of distinct hop character other than a decent hop bitterness. More malt-like than anything else.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

...not really saying I'm hitting things hard as far as clearing out some beer backlog, but with local purchases, Tavour, beer trades, BIF #15, Hair of The Dog purchases, and other gifted beers finding their way to me, I've got my work cut out in order to prep for BIF #16...yet I sincerely believe progress is being made (slowly but surely)...

The view off our back deck is the state park, and the trees in the foreground are in the park. We get deer sleeping in the yard, and also get turtles, sneks, and raccoons. The wasp on the left side of the can was "assisting". After the picture I realized I was about six feet away from a good sized nest I need to take care of.
