I loved Cable Beverage when I lived in Rockland, but check the dates on anything that you buy. Growler and Gill is also a really nice spot.

Well, Two Villains closing was a bummer.

    BUT.

Marlowe is opening their taproom in that same spot. Holy shit yes. I think they’re cranking out some of the best beers in the country right now and I’m thrilled to have them in NY.

Wow. Yet another huge temptation when I drop my kid off at school downstate.

Yeah that’s an instant detour for me now anytime I go visit buddies in the city. Especially given that it’s only like 5 minutes out of the way when taking the Tappan Zee.

I never had their stuff. Is Marlowe that good? I guess I'll have to suck it up and pay the Half Time tax and give them a shot.

    For my personal tastes abso-fuckin-lutely.

Their hoppy beers are in the Grimm/Fox Farm vein where they’re bright, juicy and really fuckin’ balanced. Everything they do is just super well crafted. They just dropped a Kolsch that I’m fiending to try.

Old Church on Rte 6 in Mohegan Lake is being transformed into a brewery. Was previously a winery.

I know nothing about these guys. Any intel? Based on description, seems it will be more Belgian-focused than IPA/Haze. That would be a great thing.

Couldn’t agree more. I’ve loved all their beers so far (I’ve had about 10 different beers, give or take). This is exciting news. I was bummed to heat about Two Villains closing as I had not yet stopped at the brewery but found all their canned beers really good. Marlowe moving in is a huge consolation prize. I just started a new job that has me taking the Tap a few days a week so I’m stoked.

Nah you scooped me on this, had heard nothing of it. Gorgeous building though and would be dope to see a Belgian focus; Ardennes has been super successful with that in the FLX and nobody in the HV has that niche.

Also only five miles from Peekskill and River Outpost which is nice.

So Lost Planet is opened finally, and it is a cool place, an old fire station with a focus on that motif. Nice old style bar, no idea where they got it. Hell, it may have been there. Only tried three of the beers, a grissettte, Vienna lager and a Czech pilsner. All were solid. Went back with Lori a week later, she had the hazy and said it was very good. The pizza was delicious, and the place was packed. Making a return trip in about two hours.

Thursday night I stopped by Mystic Ways in Perkasie which opened over the summer. This is a strange little place, dark and psychedelic with a couple somewhat bizarro beers. The paintings in the place focus on mushrooms and what you're likely to see under their influence. Bring a flash light or a headlamp, it's that dark. The Oktoberfest was good, and there was an amber ale, but other than those, I'm not sure there was anything else I wanted to drink. There were several IPAs which are required these days. And the others? Maybe brew a couple "normal" beers before you start throwing cinnamon buns, cotton candy and marshmallows in the kettle. Will definitely be stopping back as it's not even 5 minutes from a small theater (Sellersville) where I see concerts.

There's also another place set to open 3 blocks away named Van Lieus, but I have little info on that one other than the address. No facebook postings since September 3rd which stated an opening in "A few weeks". Couple photos of hazy beers, so I have that to look forward to, not.

Headed upstate and want to check out some newish spots (I mostly go to Drowned Lands and Tin Barn). Which of these are the strongest: Shepherd's Eye, Rushing Duck, Long Lot, Foreign Objects? TY!

Have never been to Shepherd's eye but have had good things. Foreign Objects is a small taproom, they brew off site but have some good IPAs. Rushing Duck has a great variety (20 taps of all different styles) and place to chill, Long Lot the same but smaller selection but cool to hang out at, especially when they have the fire pits set up. RD + LL will have food trucks on weekends.

In the neighborhood is also Orange County Brewery / Distillery which I highly recommend, and Dubco set up a taproom nearby (very close to Drowned Lands) that I haven't been to but hear good things about. There's also Apex Brewery in the area, but haven't been nor heard much about them.

If I were just able to scoop cans, which spot would you recommend?

If you're just looking for beer to go, I'd stick with Drowned Lands and Tin Barn IMO.

Got it and thanks. My issue is that Im looking diversify my allotment a bit and by only going to those two spots, Ima have a shit-ton of NEIPAs.

Drowned Lands has some lagers and a wit beer on right now. They're a bit more diversified than Tin Barn. They had 3 stout bottles recently that were really good, but I'm pretty sure they're gone now. Rushing Duck should have some good variety if you want to swap that out for Tin Barn. Foreign Objects leans pretty heavy on NEIPAs.

Drowned Lands 100000% needs to be the priority. They have a huge variety of beers to go so you could easily do a mixed case with six different kinds of beer. Tin Barn is objectively good but their IPAs skew on the sweet side and that’s not my thing. At least not if I’m buying a big allotment.

Shepherds Eye is great and worth the stop for cans or crowlers for sure. I have love for Rushing Duck the same.

Orange County Brewing is good but no cans to go. Foreign Objects is good but good luck finding out what they have available before going. Apex Brewing is horrendous.

    Unrelated Cap Region bidness:

    - Speckled Pig was fantastic. Good taplist variance, everything was super high quality, space is gorgeous and I was very impressed with the staff. Just awesome vibes all around.

    - Seven… I forget the name of this place, Seven Points? The one that’s replacing Mar Jack in Schenectady, it opens next Friday.
