I literally want every single dark, high ABV, barrel-aged beer from Revolution! All of them sound amazing. I think I need some Illinois friends on here.

Final mystery barleywine from the box that @DIM sent in our blind trade. What could this one be?

Poured at fridge temp into my favorite glass. Pours a murky brown with the thinnest layer of head. The nose is intense and boozy. Barrel seems to strike first. Wine/brandy/sherry influence right away. Vinous. Also picking up figs, plums, leather, and wood. A touch of caramel, but it's soft. Wonderful nose.

Taste follows the nose, generally. Definitely some wine/port influence here. I'd be shocked if it wasn't brandy/sherry/wine barrel aged. Plums, raisins, brown sugar, wood, a slight nuttiness, and rich toffee. Wow, is this good! Intense!

ABV seems a bit on the high side. I would say 13%.

How close was I? The reveal:

Kane Stacking Casks Blend 8. Blend of bourbon and malt whiskey barrel-aged barleywines finished in a single Louis Royer XO Cognac cask. Comes in at 14% ABV. Well, I definitely picked up the cognac and was close on the ABV. I didn't really get the bourbon barrels. I think the cognac just dominated. Not sure if it was a first fill cognac cask, but I wouldn't be surprised given the intensity of the flavors.

@DIM - this was amazing! Thanks so much for sending this special beer. I gotta admit I'm sad that the mystery beers are finished, but what a ride!! Cheers buddy!

Nice! Glad you liked that one, I thought it was almost Double Double Cask good. And I agree this has been an amazing ride. Glad I have one left! Hope we can do this again sometime.

I got a last minute invite to play kickball on a minor league baseball field tonight. Just got back, too late for barleywine. Had a blast though!

Thanks one more time for an amazing trade and I hope you have a wonderful trip!

American BA Barleywine from Epic. I let this sit a while cause I like to let the hops chill. Smart decision on this one..the barrel is still there, not a lot of hops. A pretty good brew but I've had much better..Bigfoot, Behemoth. Devils spear

When we were up in August I only had time to stop in to pick up some beer to go, but I love the look of the tap room. Hope to be able to have one there sometime.

Totally agree. This was up there with DDC. I have already spotted a couple of barleywines that should be available overseas. I'll gather some as I go and we can do this again in the future!

    Cheers!

Stopped at Tree House driving home from Maine to PA.

    Tree of Life Barleywine

Tons of rich caramel, toffee, vanilla, burnt sugar, a little rum. But not too sweet. Full bodied, smooth feel. Overall, it top notch.

I was carousing the Total Wine Greenville SC site last week and saw what i thought was a new batch of Third Coast and pulled the trigger. However, it turned out to be from 9/2020 which actually is in the sweet spot for my palate with 2-3 years of age. I guess sometimes one wins with blind TW purchases LOL!
    Cheers!

My last mystery barleywine from @Beersnake1 This one is in a big ol' 750, corked and caged.

This quite sweet and desert like, bourbon barrel aged I'd guess. I get creme brulee and brown sugar in a big way up front and throughout. The strong whiskey notes come on next with a strange, mild banana note that I'm liking quite a bit. The finish adds lots of oak and some tobacco for a nice balancing bitterness at the end. This is a great finale from a spectacular trade! The reveal-

Arg, another barrel called wrong! Now that I see the label this does remind me of other rum barrel aged beers I've tried. It seems that without the power of suggestion and preconceived notions my palate is even more feeble. The front of the label says 2020 vintage and the back of the label says 2009, any insight there? Thanks for another great treat, this is one I didn't know existed!

    And where is your review??

That is an excellent idea! Hope you find some good ones, they aren't as plentiful as they used to be.

I’m no expert, but based on my limited exposure with Lost Abbey over the last 4-5 years, I’d bet the farm this is certainly a bottle from 2020. (God, now I am going to feel like a fool when I am wrong.)

I don’t have any idea about the discrepancy in ages. My only guess is that it has something to do with one of their cellar sales, and perhaps it is newly bottled but from the older vintage. I think they did something similar with their Cable Car Kriek release.

Glad you enjoyed this one! I had two bottles, with one to you and the other sitting in my cellar. I haven't tried it yet! I will when I get back. As for the vintage 2009, bottled in 2020....I actually think this is there 2009 Angel's Share that they put into rum barrels and then bottled. Not 100% sure though, and I can't find any info. I will ask them when I'm there next! As for how long it was in rum barrels, I really don't know.

Maris Goes Nuts. My review reflects the fact that this doesn't seem like a barleywine. Other than that, it's really good!

Poured at fridge temp from a can. Pours black with light brown head. Chocolate, almonds, walnuts, malts, and some charred wood.

The taste is really nice. Roasted malts, nuts, chocolate, a bit of charred wood. Honestly, this doesn't really come across as a barleywine for me. Almost stout or porter like. A bit of licorice. Very nice. Mouthfeel is creamy. My rating is a bit lower because this doesn't seem to go along with the style.

Even looks like an Imperial Stout/Porter. Your pic and all the others on Untappd. Unless it's a Black English Barleywine.

Timbers Ales Fruited Kettle Sours are solid, and their Imperial Stouts are very good. But I haven't tried anything else from them.

You can pay an extra $10 for one of their beer tickets (they do all the ordering via cell phone), and they use this glass and then you keep it.

I wonder if there is a template they use for Angel's Share labels and they forgot to edit that part?
