Just want to make sure I got this straight…you started your little rant (in a thread about a beloved store closing after 2 decades of service to all us knuckleheads) by stating that NYC is a beer desert. You just stated you’re not talking about Brooklyn even though, last I checked, Brooklyn is, indeed, a part of NYC.

You’re comparing some little town in the middle of nowhere which caters to a niche crowd to one, rather small, area of a major city and declaring it a “beer desert.” By using your way to proving your point, and because you used Koreatown as an example, that would be like me going to the Flatbush or Astoria area and declaring that NYC is a Korean food desert.

Also much as I absolutely love VT, I do feel like there’s some pretty major revisionist history these days when it comes to good beer & VT.

Someone just dipping their toes into the beer scene would be forgiven for thinking that the handpump at any given rural VT village well, has been churning out Abner since ~1850.

The biggest problem with VT is that outside of Burlington, almost every beer destination is like an hour+ drive from eachother, and the state is a pain in the ass to get around in general. Just kinda the way it has to be with the mountains, but if you want to hit more a couple spots in one day without a DD, it's not the easiest to pull off.

exactly my point about everyone drunk driving from Three Penny. Unless you have someone who is willing to DD, making a day drinking around various parts of VT is almost guaranteed to have someone buzzed behind the wheel.

The great thing about NYC is that, even though the best of locations may be spread out, it does not require one to get behind the wheel.

I've been drinking in NYC for 45 years. I know the beer scene there. We were going to the Peculiar Pub when you were in diapers. I was one of the first customers in the door at The Thompson Street brewing company. It's only been subpar and remains subpar. I would probably walk out of 1/2 the bars in NYC at viewing the taps- many places have not one good beer on tap. You've been to Philadelphia? Now thats a beer town. Waterbury Vermont probably has more good beer bars than Manhattan.

Hate to defend this guy’s terrible takes, but I think I can make his point better than he can. I think he’s saying the NYC beer scene sucks because the average bar is not very good for beer, even though because of its overall size, there are a high number of good bars, just more spread out. Like if you walk into a random pub in NYC, you aren’t likely to find a bunch of awesome taps, whereas you will if you walk into a random bar in a lot of places in VT. That’s probably true.

It’s also true that NYC has many, many more good beer bars than any city in VT, and the bolded statement above is objectively false and absurd. Waterbury literally has 3 beer bars. One of them is awesome, two are okay. To compare Waterbury to NYC in terms of quality and enjoyability is subjective; to compare them in terms of raw numbers is laughably silly.

How do you know how old I am? lol, Peculiar Pub, I used to basically live in that place. If you’re in you’re 60s, are you bragging about that? That’s a lazy way to make some point of yours. You care that much about “good” beer at your age?
I’ve been to Waterbury. Yawn. I’m done with your stubbornness.

This is a thread about a much loved place in NYC closing due to the impact of COVID. FFS. There are some threads that are surely exempt from regional dick measuring?

the absolute worst. no social skillz. only the uncontrollable need to puke their personal rankings on everything. you just know this guy would have trouble in an overly-specific top 3 thread.

You forgot to throw in a random "I've been drinking since you were just a twinkle in your daddy's eye" boomer-flex.

Enjoyable thread, would read again. Was a Good Beer regular when I lived in Long Island City and stopped by a couple more times on visits to town after moving away. Never had a bad experience there. Some prices were questionable at times, but that's NYC for you.
