More rain today. This is the rainiest monsoon season in my four years here.
I'm watching football from London. Right now the Giants are dominating.

My new beer is Von Albrecht, an Oktoberfest style from Bull N Bear Brewery in Summit, NJ. It was sent to me by @MacMalt . Thanks, Rob.
A dark amber color with a small off-white head.
Aroma of caramel and brown bread, with some herbal hops.
Taste of caramel, brown bread. Late hops.
A rather hoppy Marzen. I like it.

Jack Black's Skeleton Coast IPA. Comes in at 6.9% ABV.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a semi-transparent orange with fluffy white head. The nose is tropical fruit and citrus. Pineapple, mango, grapefruit, oranges, honey, sweet candy. No bitterness to be detected.

The taste is really nice. Again, candy sweetness and tropical fruit. Papaya, mango, pineapple, oranges, a slight citrus peel bitterness, maybe a touch of pine needles, bready malts, apple pie. Super smooth and easy to drink.

Light mouthfeel. Overall, a really nice IPA.

    6.8% IPA from Pizza Port

Beer poured from can and created a nice fluffy head. Body was orange-yellow with minor lacing throughout.

Nose was muted with some citrus - pineapple, lemon, pine. Taste follows nose with citrus up front with a satisfying pine finish. The malt is present but the hoppy bitterness dominates.

Good mouthfeel - the carbonation is strong. Nice crisp finish.

I enjoyed this beer very much. A good solid bitter IPA.

My wife is working while I try to get started on Thanksgiving dinner preparations while making sure the twins don’t kill each other. Our thanksgiving up here is on Monday and we are planning to have a big dinner at my mother-in-law’s place. It will really be the first normal-ish holiday dinner since before the COVID. We are looking forward to it.

I’m making some German-ish braised red cabbage and apples with bacon. It’s a side dish we seem to like with everything. You cook up a half pound of bacon, chopped into small pieces, add red onion, a couple apples, a medium head of finely sliced red cabbage, some fennel seeds, salt and pepper and a good amount of balsamic vinegar. Low heat for an hour or more and it turns into a cross between a side dish and candy!

While cooking, I’m enjoying this new beer to me from William Street Brewing Company, located on Elgin Street in Cobourg, Ontario. You can see William Street from the front door of the brewery, so I’ll allow it.

This is Farmstand Lager, described as a Munich style lager made with Canadian Pilsner malt and ‘hand selected’ hops on the label.

Pours a straw gold with moderate head that dissipates to a film and ring after a couple minutes.

The aroma is light bread, and broadly floral and herbal hops. There is a hint of generic spiciness in there as well.

Taste follows nose with a light bready character off the top and floral hops following. The spicy character stands out a little more, especially on the finish.

This is light bodied and enjoyable.

A perfectly serviceable pale lager that I’d gladly drink again, but likely not make a huge effort to buy again.

Im not playing this round of the NBS BIF, but one of you lot will be getting bottles of all the William Street beers I picked up this week. So far all decent and unlikely ever to have made a cross border journey.

6.5% New England IPA by Three Floyds Brewing

Drank a pint from tap. The body poured a hazy yellow. Small initial head with lacing during the tasting.

The nose had an appealing tropical fruit flavor that I enjoyed but had trouble identifying. Mango? Good nose.

Taste had an unexpected bitterness given the style. Grapefruit, pineapple and earthy hop taste along with a substantial malt backbone. Both sweet and bitter.

    Good mouthfeel and moderate carbonation.

I enjoyed this beer, but I don't consider it a New England IPA. What is it? A tasty beer

Arclight World Between Worlds - Coffee, Vanilla, Chocolate variant. Imperial Stout w/ toasted coconut, Kenyan coffee from Snake Oil Roasters, Madagascar vanilla beans, and Ghana cacao nibs.

Looks and pours like motor oil. Midnight black in color that produces a quarter finger dark mocha, reddish head that slowly builds through the dense body, but dissipates quickly once it forms. Creates a dark brown film on the glass as you swirl it around. A menacing looking beer. 4.5

Aroma has a heavy presence of Hershey's chocolate syrup. Like Hershey's chocolate syrup to a T. Also getting big creamy vanilla, coconut macaroon, toasted coconut, mocha, lightly toasted marshmallow, some coffee roast, caramel, slight dark chocolate. Big impression of sweetness. Smells like a true pastry stout. 4.5

Taste is definitely sweet as the aroma indicated, but has a bit more balance thanks to more coffee and roast character. Hershey's chocolate syrup, toasted coconut macaroon, dark chocolate brownie, nice presence of dark roast coffee, vanilla bean, toasted marshmallow, burnt sugar, roasted malt, slight black licorice. Warming as it goes down, but thanks to the sweetness this isn't particularly boozy. Very reminiscent of a sweeter mocha latte with coconut. 4.5

Full body. Very dense and syrupy with low carbonation. Mouth-coating, sticky, slick. 4.5

Regular World Between Worlds is one of the better coconut pastry stouts I've had. This variant elevates that one to another level. The coffee, chocolate, and vanilla all complement each other, as well as the toasted coconut. Pastry stouts are meant to be sweet, flavorful, thick, and dense and this one doesn't hold any of that back. 4.5
    Overall: 4.5

    Thanks.

All the chatter up here is about concern that the Leafs didn’t improve enough defensively and that the Habs have an abundance of promising d-men in the pipeline, but perhaps more for next year rather than this year.

Cheers, good luck, and happy season!!

Poured from a 16oz can stamped simply 2022 to a diagonally cut tumbler at fridge temp, but I sipped slowly and let it warm.
Body is black and the ¼-inch (6mm) head is a nice brown. The head fades to a ring, but creates a brief oily lacing with every glass swirl.
The aroma is of musty coffee and caramelized sugar.
The front end of the taste is coffee that is quickly taken over by a sugar bomb. After the swallow the sweetness subsides and a coffee/bourbon taste materializes that is quite pleasant. I can even sense some hops in that afterglow. I really am not a fan of all that sweetness though.
The mouthfeel is of medium viscosity, but very sticky (big surprise huh). There is pretty good carbonation for the style and the assumed age (about 4-5 months).
I really wish the talent at Treehouse would challenge themselves to make a bitter stout.

Brewers Notes: Bigger Guava is Very Hazy conditioned atop heaps of guava purée and freeze-dried guava. This treatment concentrates the flavor profile and brings the most potent representation of our favorite tropical fruit to the forefront of this offering.Pouring a brilliant hazy yellow in the glass, Big Guava carries notes of overripe guava, fresh fruit salad, orange juice concentrate, and clementines. It carries a beautiful balance of hop, fruit, and yeast character that is carefully captured and locked into this can. Please keep it cold at all times and enjoy it as fresh as possible for the best experience—Enjoy!

Can poured into a bearded iris will becher glass, pours a hazy mango colored liquid with a two finger off white creamy foam cap

    Aroma is guava, eponymously named

Taste is guava, a marketing genius named this beer

Hop taste , no bite, low sudsing, spotty lacing

    Good beer

    12oz can into a 12oz Becher.
L: Pours yeast hazed semi-brite pale straw yellow w a 1/2" white head that goes slowly to a thick skin, well carb'd, some random lacing.
S: Melon, light dank spicy hops, a hint of yeast, a suggestion of caramelized malts.
T: Melon & melon rind, citrus, grapefruit zest, light lemon, gently tangy, lightly sweet, light yeast, a trace of caramelized malts, long mild zesty linger.
F: Lightly crisp, almost juicy med-light bodied w a slightly drying med-length finish & a long fine linger.
O: A lovely single hop hop forward IPA that is gently sharp with melon and citrus zest. Fruity but not overly sweet and is a bit tangy at the finish. Very good tasting, easy drinking and is excellent in its style.

    Brouwerij De Moersleutel - Pim

Imperial Stout with cocoa nibs, from the Netherlands (11%).

Pours a pitch-black coloration with a large, creamy, dark brown head. Smells of roasted malt and an intense chocolate aroma, which pretty much drowns out anything else.

Taste is a good balance of roasted, slightly caramelly malt and a very strong, dark chocolate presence, with hints of licorice and peppery spice also coming through. Finishes with a light sweetness and some chocolate lingering in the aftertaste. Creamy mouthfeel with a rich body and light carbonation.

While this comes across a little one-dimensional, It certainly does what it says on the tin, with a huge, intense dark and slightly bitter chocolate presence that reminds me of raw cocoa nibs. At the same time, it never feels cloyingly sweet though, due to the natural bitterness of the cocoa and roasted malts, while I also really like that peppery spice accent here, almost reminding me of a mild chile presence. No booziness to this at all, except maybe for a very light warming presence in the aftertaste, with a very rich and creamy body and mouthfeel.
