Up in NH closing up our place for the year this weekend. It's a beautiful day, I have the Phils on TV and loads of good beer in the fridge. It's days like this that make me realize how lucky I am.

First up today is Nomad, from Tree House. I picked this up yesterday on my way up here, along with the matching glass.

Canned 10/6/22 and poured at slightly above fridge temperature into a Tree House Nomad "Czech style lager glass". Off the bat, I think this is a very attractive beer. In the glass it's a dark brown that held up to the light is slightly translucent with nice amber / copper hues around the edges. Loads of long lasting tan colored head with excellent retention and lacing.

Aroma is really nice bready malts with hints of pumpernickel.

The taste is consistent with the nose. Plenty of pumpernickel and other bready notes, light roasted malts, and faint nutty flavors. Very tasty. Feel is medium bodied and smooth.

Overall, this is an excellent beer.

I'm truly living the "Progressive can't stop you from becoming your parents" thing, because with every passing month I notice myself saying or doing things that make me think "holy crap, you're getting old". This morning it was how much I enjoyed looking at the foliage while I was out on the paddle board. I suppose you can double down on that with the fact that I'm posting a picture of the lake / leaves / mountains on a beer nerd website. Oh well, I suppose I should just embrace it.

Bright and clear golden yellow body; moderate carbonation; thick, frothy head, white and sculpted; dense and thick rings of foam encircle the glass. Strong fir tree aroma; weedy; earthy; a slight presence of sweet, fruity esters. Subtly sweet malt flavor packing some mild to moderate hop bitterness; low-key breadiness on the malt-side; berries and a touch of pine resin in the hop flavor; moderately bitter. Medium body; sublimely smooth on the palate; very fine residual sugar feel; excellent blend of sweetness and dryness throughout.

I am very glad to have found this beer. Simplicity can be beauty, and Russian River brewing has done that with this beer. The beer is understated yet refined and beautifully complex as it opens up.

Beer #2 is a cellar pull. Don't remember where I got this, but it was clearly several years ago, as it's a 2016 bottle.

2016 vintage. Appearance is a murky, not particularly attractive brown with a small amount of short-lived khaki colored head. Aroma is mostly muted, but some nice fig and raisin notes emerged as it warmed.

Taste is similar to the nose, with figs and muddled fruit combining with some nice yeast notes. Very little carbonation.

Overall, this is a tasty well done quad that's held up well.

As in New Hampshire (@Roy_Hobbs) it is a beautiful Vermont day. Just past peak foliage colors in Montpelier area.
My wife works at a hotel so anything left in rooms (excepting underwear, sex toys, and consumables) is saved for 3 months for guests to claim. I’ve gotten some nice clothes and occasional beer. Including todays, an unknown to me Portland brewery.
Foulmouthed Brewing Fraktur Kölsch, 5.5% abv.
Pours a clear straw/golden with lots of small rising bubbles allowing a thin but tight white cap. Cap and bubbles linger through my sampling. Smell is sweet malt, orange blossom honey, lemony white wine. First sip offers that floral orange blossom honey before the malt enters. Finishes dry with a firm bitterness. Very enjoyable.

A decent and thirst quenching pilsner.

    Hövels Hausbrauerei - Original

    Altbier from Germany (5.5%).

Pours a clear, mahogany coloration with a medium, creamy head. Smells of grainy, bready malt and herbal hops.

Taste is a great balance of grainy, bready, slightly caramelly malt and herbal, slightly floral hops, with fruity highlights of dark fruit and red berries; fig, redcurrant and some nutty accents. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some bready malt, herbal hops and dark/red fruit lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

Haven't had this in ages, but had kinda good memories of it and am glad to have tried it again. While it's not quite on the same level as the classic Düsseldorf Alts, it's certain the best widely distributed Altbier that I've come across so far, even though Hövels actually refuses to call it an Altbier for some reason. Nice balance of bready malts and herbal hops, with a little depth provided by some red/dark fruit and nutty accents. Very nice mouthfeel and beautiful coloration and head as well.

Aslin Barrel Select Down With O.PB. This is a bourbon barrel aged pastry stout with Oreos, peanut butter, vanilla and marshmallow as the add-junks.

Pours like a fridge-cold bottle of corn syrup. Near black with a very slowly developing head that fades to a scant ring with an oily film on the top of the liquid.

Aromas are huge. Sweetened Peanut butter dominates, but the Oreos are noticeable and the vanilla sits in behind. Not much in the way of a boozy aroma.

Taste follows. Uber-sweet cookie and peanut butter. Vanilla. Little to no bourbon notes present.

Syrupy, oily, thick. Somewhat off-putting especially as I’m not a huge pastry stout guy.

I imagine if I were of the pastry persuasion, this would be top tier, minus the lack of barrel presence. As I am not, this is a chore to drink and likely affecting my health as I slowly sip it.

    Cheers!

Canned 9/19/22. Pours a translucent, fairly bright amber color with plenty of dense off-white colored head with good retention and lacing. On the whole, an attractive beer. Aroma is bready malts. Not overly complex, although I'm not sure I expected it to be.

Taste is similar to the nose. Bready malts, with some light caramel notes. Medium bodied, smooth and refreshing. Overall, a well done, easy drinking beer. This would be perfect for a night hanging out with friends where you want to be able to drink for hours on end without ending up on the floor.

Bayreuther Bierbrauerei - Aktien Landbier Fränkisch Dunkel

    Dark Lager from Germany (5.3%).

Pours a clear, deep mahogany coloration, with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of roasted, bready and slightly caramelly malt, herbal, spicy hops and just a hint of coffee.

Taste is a good balance of bready, roasted and slightly caramelly malt and grassy, herbal, slightly spicy hops, with accents of dark fruit; raisin, fig as well as hints of chocolate and coffee. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some bready, roasted malt, herbal hops and hints of dark fruit and chocolate lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

I think this makes for a very nice, and somewhat underrated, Dark Lager that perhaps suffers slightly from having been mislabeled as a Munich Dunkel, while feeling almost closer to a Schwartzbier with its slightly roasted malts and accents of choclate and coffee, balanced very nicely against herbal, spicy and bitter hops. There's a certain caramel sweetness to this as well, which is reigned in by those slightly roasted and bitter notes very nicely though. Still drinks quite easily despite a certain depth of character, kinda feeling complex and mild at the same time.

No canning date but less than two weeks old.

Moderate pour yields a nearly two inch off-white head over a copper colored body with lacing.

Nose of slight malt, some biscuit and toast, definite spice exhibited as well.

Taste is more of the same and finishing quite crisp and dry.

Mouthfeel is above average, being medium to full.

Overall, a nice stab at a Märzen from Tunbridge, VT and one to look out for.

Greetings on this beautiful fall night; today was a tiring day but full of love and family. Sister in law came home for her birthday with her husband, we haven't seen them in a while. We had a big meal of stuffed shells, meatballs, salad, and garlic knots at in laws house. Things are settling down now so I'll open a beer and share.

I used to love pumpkin beers way back, I still have an appreciation for them and try to have a few each fall. This is my first one of the year and it is one I have not ever had actually. What is unique about this one is it uses pumpkins super local to Troëgs, its also a little heftier at 7.5%...here is the report.

    Troëgs - Master of Pumpkins

A beautiful looking beer, deep copper in color with some reddish hues; crystal clear with a thick creamy offwhite head.

Nose is clove at first, some yeastiness accompanied by some nutmeg, pumpkin meat and fall spice.

The taste is heavier on pumpkin meat, then cinnamon with a nutmeg clove finish; minor yeast and with an almost saison/belgian like finish.

Medium body, really smooth and creamy mouthfeel; it gives the impression of vanilla but there is none, I don't think. The carbonation is also unique, almost bottle (can) conditioned feel with creamy bubbles. Spices give it a tannin like bitterness to me.

This is a unique and somewhat different pumpkin beer, and for that I'm enjoying it and really appreciate it. If you appreciate nuance and something different in a pumpkin beer give this one a try.

    -------

Following up after this explains the vanilla, belgian like finish and yeast I kept noticing "french saison yeast to elicit notes of vanilla, cinnamon clove, nutmeg and honey."

New Holland Dragon's Milk Reserve 2022-3 Chocolate, Marshmallow, And Graham Cracker BBA Imperial Stout (S'mores), 11% ABV. Pours black with a 1.5 finger tan head that left some lacing. Nose is chocolate, marshmallow, and bourbon. Taste follows, plus graham, quite sweet. Smooth mouthfeel, overall outstanding. Not as much bourbon burn as other variants.

@BigIronH , I rated this slightly higher than the the Boulevard More S'more but it comes down to personal preference. I'm not likely to run out and buy a pack of either, but if I had to choose it'd be this one. That's surprising since Dragon's Milk add-junks don't often overcome the bourbon burn to this extent.

    Braufactum - German Pale Ale

Pale Ale with Callista, Comet and Herkules hops, from Germany (5%)

Pours a cloudy, amber coloration with a medium, fluffy head and some tiny floaters. Smells of doughy, biscuity malt and citrus/stone fruit/berry hops, with notes of grapefruit, apricot and blackberry, as well as some herbal, resinous accents.

Taste is a great balance of doughy, biscuity malt and fruity, herbal, slightly grassy, floral and resinous hops, with citrus, stone fruit and berry notes of grapefruit, apricot and blackberry, as well as just a hint of pine. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some grapefruit, blackberry and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This makes for a really nice "German Pale Ale", I'm glad I was lucky to find it so fresh. Callista is one of my favorite German hop varieties and it comes through here beautifully, with notes of stone fruit and red berries, as well as just a hint of pine, I also really like the balance of fruity and herbal, bitter and slighty resinous notes here, while there's just a really fresh and vibrant hop profile to this, backed up by soft, doughy malts and finishing with a great bitterness.

Served close to room temp, was in my trunk all day and it's in the low 50's today.

Pitch black pour with a thick brown head - 3 finger. The retention is amazing for such a high alcohol beer. There's a bit of lacing that clings to the glass as the head dissipates.
The aroma is a mix of marshmallow, chocolate, vanilla, lactose, and a nutty aroma. Quite well balanced and pleasing.
The marshmallow hits first. The chocolate comes in next with a hint of vanilla and the nutty flavor - almond - and a hint of coconut as well. This beer finishes a creamy flavor from lactose.
The body is quite creamy and soft feeling. Fairly thick, and smooth. Very faint boozy feeling.
DAMN! This is delicious and a pleasure to try.

This is a big boy, but I'll see if I can make it for one more.
