    Perhaps?

Or maybe the friend of @donspublic son knows the 'answer'?

    Cheers!

Love me some stove pipes. I agree with other BA's, fresh stove pipes are easier to come by then six packs. Don't want to pay or have a whole sixxer of DFH 90, but I'll crush a stove pipe for $3ish bucks. Real Ale has their Quad in stove pipes in the $3-$4 range and I grab that when the weather finally cools in Texas.

I think I've bought one stove pipe of Victory Golden Monkey before. Good beer, don't really seem ever to be in the mood for it though.

The Stove Pipes have been in Houston, and Louisiana convenience stores for as long as I can remember. The new thing is now every grocery store has a section in the beer fridge where these are for sale. Modelo, Corona, InBev, Miller, Karbach, Lagunitas and a handful of local brewers (if your store has good beer). I don't oppose the format, and do wish they were around back in the 90s when I was working downtown. Me and a friend alternated driving weeks back in the day and we would hit up a local liquor store for a road beer when heading home. If I was the passenger, then I would probably have grabbed one of these for the 45-60 min drive home.

So 12oz, then 16oz and now 19.6 oz. Couple that with a growing public desire for higher ABV - I see more DIPA's in double deuces in the future.

Victory Golden Monkey comes in these.
I call them buzz in a can.
For less than 3.50 ea, it's hard to beat.
    Those are my "road sodas".

The size was perfect for my walks down the strip in Vegas, bar drinks are crazy expensive but walking out of a CVS with a DFH 90 in this format is perfect to keep my budget in check. The other benefit I have noticed is these turn over fairly quick and therefore canned on dates typically are better than the full 4-packs (also easier to decipher just picking up one can at a time and looking at the bottom for date).

In addition, I was traveling in northern VT this summer where you typically find one country/convenience store in a village every half hour or so. There is usually only one short cooler with all the beers, so mixing in these stovepipes allows for a larger selection than 4 or 6-packs taking up a wider space. Save the larger space for stocking the Heady!

Years ago, before I even thought about cutting back on my beer consumption due to health concerns, I remember thinking that the stovepipe format was a particularly bad idea for BA Ten Fidy. (I bought it anyway.) The only other time I can remember buying anything in this format was a couple of weeks ago (fresh Zombie Dust, which I couldn't pass up). The stovepipe ranks right up there with the bomber in terms of my least favorite packaging formats. It's just too much for me.

I could probably go for a big RIS in a swing-top bomber format. (Does that even exist?)

They're great for concerts. Was at one last night in Atlanta and the Goose Island Beer Hug was easily the best bang for your buck at 9.9%

For a 7% or less ABV the 19.2oz can is a perfect 1 and done for the day for me, and the ones running 7-10% ABV are more buzz than I want but at an average of $4 a can it’s better than the usual $4-$7 per 16oz can I would normally get in a typical mix Sixer from my bottle shop. Sometimes I’ll find some decent 12oz format options for $3-$4 per bottle/can. I still don’t understand the reversed cost per oz of beer being sold in this stovepipe format when historically the larger the single vessel the higher the cost per oz (see bombers, 16oz cans over 12oz always in the past).

Most of the macros are 24 oz and some of these are a great deal also, as I can get 24 oz of PBR, High Life, etc. for $1.99.

There are beers in this format from Europe although I've actually had a few from P.E.I. and Nova Scotia closer to me as well (not full bombers but 500 ml / 16.9 oz bottles). Ironically these tend to be 6% ABV or lower beers, but on the other hand keeping freshness is actually MORE important with these lighter beers as opposed to higher ABV beers which tend to handle some amount of oxidation.

I agree though, without having anyone to split a bomber with a swing top would be much appreciated. And with the base cost of imperial or BA stouts, the extra expense of a swing top rather than standard bottle does not seem to be a big deterrent.

I drink most of my beers from a glass that (just barely) holds a stovepipe, so I don't mind them as long as the beer is decent. A stovepipe is starting to push the envelope towards bombers which I try to avoid due to size, particularly when they're high ABV. About the only craft stovepipes I've had are Yeti variants.

Do you see any specific local ones? I only have access to a few, other than the standard staples DFH, Lagunitas, Stone, etc

One of my local stores prices them at $2.99/can or 2 cans for $5. Not a bad deal. Plus, 19.2oz of All Day IPA hits the spot after mowing the lawn for an hour or two.

One is enough is not true for me. These are train beers. You have one on the train while you are getting to the place that you are going to do the real drinking at.

WE have a thread going already (couple of years) in the West forum. Though mainly concerning the PNW.
It's the new malt liquor. Except not in 40s. Some really nice higher alcohol IIPAs at a reasonable price from Safeways, Freddys or Plaid Pantry.
Big Ballard has been in this form for years and is a big favorite with the 'walking home from the taphouse crowd (me) and the poor. including
    the homeless.
I don't see a problem with if. Just because you are down and out does not mean you have to drink Steel reserve to get you toasty!

Not particularly local ones no. Usually bigger/regional craft brands. Great Divide has their Yeti series in stovepipe cans too

I think I've seen the Cape May IPA that you mentioned upthread; and up here we also see Meadowlands Lager. But that's probably it for NJ stuff.
