Hint #23 - Your state has a city/town of the same name as mine does. Mine is in the northwestern part of my state.
Hint #24 - You live in said city/town that I mentioned also is in Minnesota in the previous hint. There's 2 A's in the name.
Hint #25 - Do I need a sledgehammer? Should I tag you?

 

I thought @Whyteboar and @foundersasap were from farther west. That district is pretty darn specific. I guess we shall see, perhaps my assumptions are misguided. Cheers, nonetheless.

 

The district, that I mentioned, the 3rd district is in Western Michigan according to The Almanac of American Politics 1996 that I have in front of me.

This is a complex hint because VE served in both Central and West Michigan. I’m glad you clarified but this could have been a unique challenge for the three of us Michiganders. Cheers.

After the 1992 census, the district numbers in your state changed drastically. Back in the 80's, it was numbered the 5th - this is from my copy of The Almanac of American Politics 1986.

Just now waiting for the call out. I have no more clues.

One more tidbit - Back in 1992, I won in an auction, for the local political party fundraiser, a coffee mug that was donated by Representative Guy Vander Jagt (now 2nd District), who retired that year (because he was defeated in the primary). I still have that mug 30 years later.

 

Ada MN comes up in searches before one I live in. I guess you did hit me with a sledgehammer, so I think it would be best to call you out, regardless of my miss reading the political areas.

 

Said mug I talked about in the last post. I used it for hot chocolate back in the 90s. Now it's for a beer.

 

Well, the sledgehammer is correct. You are my target. I just hope you're ready to get beers from Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, South Dakota, and a surprise entry as well.

 

Sounds amazing! Very much looking forward to it. And your clues were vague enough to start with then I paid attention to the wrong political house. Ah well, they were fun, and educational!

 

Now, @BigIronH seemed to be confused with my clues. I can imagine it was #8.

Hint #8 - Your state was part of the original United States.

Well, it was, but it wasn't called Michigan back then. Heck, part of my state was part of it as well (not where I live, which is a couple miles west of the border - the Mississippi River). Virginia claimed that area, until it was put into the Northwest Territory. It was an accurate clue, but designed to mislead (or give hope?).

Eventually, Michigan became a state, but it fought a war with Ohio over the Toledo Strip, where one person was wounded - Hint #17.

I did visit Detroit back in 2005 on a layover to Myrtle Beach, NC. It was an hour or so. Ironically, my parents, when they were newly married - 1971 (before I was born) - were supposed to be transferred to Michigan for their work, but at the last moment, it was called off, and they stayed in Minnesota - my mom still lives in the house they bought in 1972 - dad passed away in 2017.

Of course, I was talking about the Motor City Madman - Ted Nugent in hint #19.

A couple of my friends are thinking about taking a camping excursion to Isle Royale in the near future - talked about in hint #21.

I used to be in the political business, for a very short time back in the 90's working on campaigns, but I read about national politics a lot back then. So I remember names that I mentioned, and confirming them with books from my library. So I could talk about old time politics in western Michigan.
