NBS BIF #16 Hints and Hauls: Sweet Sixteen - Teenage Lust Tastes Like Creamed Corn and Rolling Rock

It's not that I hate pumpkin beers, it's that they are usually so similar. I just don't get the appeal.

Smoked beers are weird. I had an aversion to smoky meat for a long time, probably thanks to my British parents and their fondness for bland food. I didn't even start eating bacon until I was in my late 20's. I've gotten over that mostly - still don't really care for heavily smoked meat. In beer, it's similar. When smoke is the focus, I'm not a fan. When smoky flavors creep in, like the next step above roasty flavor, I'm ok with that. Hair of the Dog beers often head smoky and I'm usually fine with that if it's not too much.

Modern Times made a nice grodziskie a while back. We're heading up through Sacramento tomorrow on our way to see Mercyful Fate, and we're stopping at Urban Roots Brewing on the way. They've got a smoked Helles on draft that I'm sure the bf will be trying, but no cans of it (unsurprisingly).

When I had my traumatic fish beer experience, we also stopped in at Chuckanut where they had four smoked beers on draft, left over from their smoked beer festival months prior. The beertender was so happy my friends liked smoked beers that he was offering us growler fills of them for just the price of the growler...

 

I had never thought of that. Back when I was on Untappd, I made my name BellinghamBeerThunderbolt. But that was too many letters for BA, so I just shortened it to BB. never occurred to me. That Lightner Lager was just canned Wednesday.

 

Yea that's the one that skipped me, even on draft when I was in Orange County in April. I did get a Russian River Propitiation on that trip, along with a lot of Pliny and Heady Topper. Some pretty crazy beer distribution over there.

I live in Greensboro so it's a bit of a hike on i40 to Asheville, but always a great weekend trip. Me and my gf went to Burial, All Sevens(777), and Sierra Nevada Mills river in July for the first time. Definitely itching to go back and see more breweries. We walked by Green Man and a few others on our way to Burial on the Friday night. There is a whole brewing district downtown, and even a White Labs taproom. I haven't homebrewed in a while, but that is a must visit next time. Unfortunately we are more of late risers on weekends, so we end up going to the stuff that closes at 11-12 instead of 9
