oh damn $75, holy crap, i was expecting $50 for some reason, that price is probably long gone id imagine.

 

Granted it was a DB, but TWCP DB Derivation was $85 in…2020? Yea.

 

I wish, but I mean, regular BBT is $60 bottle now, so or course there is the derivation up charge. I wish and tried it today, and man, $82 and change after tax is a bit of sticker shock for one on-site bottle. Really enjoyed it, but not something I can justify trying more than once.

 

Malt porridge has never reached higher peaks.

I never thought it was fair when people would compare Kobe to MJ.

Now here I am making comparisons...

First time I had Morning Vibes I thought it was better than Mornin Delight.

First time having Derivation 16 I thought it was better than KBBS. Even though D16 has vanilla in addition to coffee/maple, it was the natural comparison that came to my mind.

 

it’s hard to not make that comparison, however, i didn’t think D16 offered that much of a similar drinking experience to KBBS. the dark roast coffee in D16 gave off notes of bitter dark chocolate whereas KBBS is like espresso to my tastebuds. on the nose with D16, i really didn’t get much coffee and KBBS i remember having a big coffee punch in both aroma and flavor. i get much more pronounced maple in KBBS but D16 offered sweetness from the maple / vanilla combination, which had more of an icing flavor to it. i get way more barrel on D16 than i remember from various KBBS’s. D16 with the thicker mouthfeel but KBBS has nothing to be ashamed of in that department. one person’s thoughts.

 

My D16 experience at first sip vs. 15-20 minutes in was very different. First sip was very much in line with what I'd imagine BA Morning Vibes being, but as time passed the coffee and barrel came through more clearly. Highly recommend letting it warm up a bit from initial temp as the beer 20 minutes in was a nice tick better than D14 and D15

 

Sorry for the delay, I’m back! The Cellar anniversary seems INSANE! I’ll be there Saturday. I’m sure there will be plenty of lines and such. Any tips though? My wife was going to be nice enough to drive, but will there even be anywhere to park?

 

I think the true boss move will be to chug as much DB Derivation, D16 and BBT as possible on the Pizza Champ patio and drunkenly walk to the Cellar to cut the line for each Candles tapping and chug that on the way back to Pizza Champ. At least that’s what I plan on doing.

is it realistic to think that bottles of DB Miz will spill over into Saturday and / or Sunday? given everything that is available that week and assuming they’re bottled in 375s like the last set of DBDs, i was kind of hoping this would be the case.

 

DB Bourbon Generational lasted about a week I believe. That was two barrels worth, which is the same as this new DB. It will at least last through Saturday imo. I’m pretty confident that D16 will be available all through the Cellar anniversary as well.

 

that’s kind of what i was thinking as well. really hoping i can make that Saturday work!

 

Taken from untappd, but seems like an exact description of the beer, single barrel is correct…

“The heart of this beer come from the collaboration brew day with our Half Acre beer friends more than 3 years ago. Once fermented and ready for its time in oak, we racked this beer in Buffalo Trace Mash Bill #2 barrels for 2 years. During the Double Barrel Cognac racking, I had 1 single 7 yr Bourbon barrel in need of filling and this lone barrel was filled with the matured 2 year old Generational.

Now 3 years removed from brewing, we are ready to share with you!”

 

i think that is correct.

 

I think with so many stout/barleywine options it makes it more likely that everything will be available. BBT, two Derivations, Continuance and Anabasis all available at once is insane. And on top of that Tete and OF are still available.
