Les Brasseries du Cameroun "33" Export Pale Lager, 5% ABV. Pours pale yellow/gold, with a 1+ finger off-white head that left some lacing. Nose is malty. Taste is sweet malt, slightly bitter. Decent mouthfeel, overall good.

This one hails from Cameroon. I'm posting this a few hours late, had to add the brewery before I could add the beer.

That is wild…I feel like I only saw plastic beer bottles for a short while. It was either at venues or a few bars, all I know is I do have vague memories of plastic Bud Light bottles. Plastic craft??? That is new.

    Appearance: Clear yellow-gold, good head.

Smell: Mild breadiness, hard to detect.

Taste: Mild sweetness, bready, mildy grassy finish.

Overall: A super-easy drinking lager from Founders here. Not much aroma, but not really expecting much. Neutral, balanced, “beer”-flavored beer. A side-by-side with Bud, Coors Banquet, PBR might be interesting.

Good morning, Weekenders! It's been New Tree House Weekend for me, but this is actually my first post in this thread: Tree of Bliss, a massive barleywine aged 36 months in bourbon and brandy barrels, then rested on coffee, chocolate, and orange peel.

This is a potent brew that delivers a rather unique experience. I can't say I've ever had a beer with this profile. Resting on orange peel was an odd choice, but it works, and complements the brandy. Super rich and thick malt base.

Full tasting notes in the review, below:

I believe their earliest beers were made with malt extract. So, ‘craft’ in a loose sense I suppose. It was before my time in Ontario and I only remember seeing them after they’d long finished using them.

They still use the label on the far left for their light lager.

Today's breakfast beer fittingly comes courtesy of @Ozzylizard. It felt appropriate to enjoy this can of The Morning After Den Haag after enjoying "regular" Den Haag last night.
Received from @Ozzylizard. Best by Aug 6, 2024. Consistent with the base beer, on the pour there's a clear amber / red color that once in the glass mostly turns into a deep, deep brown. No head but a thin ring persists. Aroma is rich and boozy. Whereas I found the regular Den Haag very, very heavy on the alcohol and bourbon, the sweetness of the maple syrup adds a dimension to this that I felt the base beer lacked. I can't pick up any coffee on the nose.

Taste is a really nice blend of coffee (which does show up, unlike in the aroma), bourbon, maple syrup & faint molasses. Unlike Den Haag, this is really well balanced. The sweetness and the alcohol bite work very well together to create a really, really enjoyable beer. Full mouthfeel with no carbonation and a nice alcohol warming.

    Overall, excellent.

    ----------------------------
I picked up a single bottle of this a couple weeks ago at the Deerfield location. Still TBD as to whether I'll drink it or include it in my BIF box. It would be a good mystery beer based on your description, but also hard to fully disguise a wax sealed bottle.

This morning’s new to me beer is Eclipse - Vanilla Rye (2021) by FiftyFifty Brewing Co., Truckee CA, an Imperial Stout aged in Whiskey Barrels with vanilla beans added:

Poured at 52°. Black with ruby edges and some clarity under creamy tan head; ok cap retention; thin ring; long lasting island of micro dots with a few rocks; some sudsy lace; no legs on swirl. Whiskey and vanilla nose; boozy exhale. Taste is whiskey, vanilla, oak, bittersweet dark chocolate; some bitter roast malt in the finish. Smooth silky feel with a dry rye tongue coating; moderate minus carbonation; full mouth warmth; not at all adjuncty with a medium body. Overall the barrel blends well with the base; lots of vanilla holding its own along side whiskey both in nose and on tongue; pleasant dry rye linger. World class.

    4.5 | 4.5 | 4.75 | 4.75 | 4.75
Score 4.68 rDev 0. I added beer to the database.

Maybe the best BA imperial stout I’ve had so far this year. Absolutely fantastic. Cheers y’all!

https://www.tenayacreek.com/our-beer/old-jackalope-barleywine-style-ale/Before I dive into New Beer Sunday 923, a few thoughts after catching up on Saturday.

    Barleywines:
@Shanex I also believe you may very well enjoy SN Bigfoot. American Barleywines cans be a hoppy mess, but SN hits the sweet spot.

On the English style, I usually find them to be a malty mess, but recommend these BA versions: Goose Island’s BCBBW, Revolution’s Straight Jacket and VSOJ, Spiteful Brewing’s Belligerent Bob (Chicago) and Tenaya Creek’s Old Jackalope. The last two also come in non BA versions, which I really like as well.

Thursday Beers: Had a few new to me beers Thursday that I did not rate formally, but were good to excellent, so wanted to give a shout out:

Revolution Brewery Deth’s Gnar: Deth’s Tar aged in Malort Barrels. Enjoyed the base, but barely got any Malort. Enjoyed the beer, but you gotta have more cowbell / Malort.

Allagash Resurgam: This is an outstanding Gueuze which we are gettting more frequently in these parts, so will sit down with a proper treatment next time it’s around.

Allagash Haunted House: Another awesome Allagash offering (spoiler alert, nearly all are awesome), just wanted to savor every last drop of this black IPA. Want to hunt this down and give this a proper evaluation for posterity the next time I see it.

Will return in a few hours with my only fresh hop IPA of the season.

I remember being able to buy 2 liter plastic Bottles of beer in the UK in the early 90s. I think they were like house varieties of ale styles from Sainsburys or Tescos. I remember taking one on a bus trip to Oktoberfest one time.

    Good morning NBW
I love the Baltic Porter style, but find very few available to me. Last year, I only reviewed two, but today I'm to match my number for all of 2021. The first is from a semi local limited distribution brewey and I had to enter the beer this morning, despite being produced in January. The other is a limited production, brewery only beer from a national craft giant. It has some additional ingredients that gave me pause, but I'll try it anyway.
First up: Quaff ON! Curonian Dzert
    [IMG]

12oz bottled 01/24/2022 (tiny black print on bottle neck right under the cap), about 9 months old at time of review, poured into a shaker pint glass at fridge temp 8.3% ABV (not on label, per Untappd) 26 IBU (on label)...
The beer pours opaque, very dark brown with light brown highlights and light brown head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. Minimal lacing. The aroma is mild in intensity with pleasant notes of dark fruit and chocolate. The taste is bittersweet roasted malt with berry, dark chocolate and caramel flavors atop the earthy, roasted malt base. Starts sweet, but finishes moderately bitter. The mouthfeel is medium plus bodied with just less that average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, very good.

I'm glad I picked up this four pack. This brewer drives me crazy with their hidden date codes and non published ABV's, but most of their stuff is solid. If your wife ever drags you to Nashville (the tiny one in Brown County, IN), sneak away to their taproom & pizza place. Great pizza plus good beer is way better that crowded crafty shops...

    Cheers all!

Great write-up and the beer sounds amazing. I love vanilla when it's used in just the right amount.
I find Allagash is almost taken for granted. Maybe it's just because they've been around so long. They have so many great beers, and the "worst" of their beers are typically somewhere in the good to very good range. One of my favorite breweries alongside Hill Farmstead, Fox Farm & Suarez

At first I was confused about Jon discussing this beer and Canadian beer, I was going to reply that Great Lakes Brewing isn't Canadian since it is brewed in Cleveland.

It appears there are two Great Lakes beers:
    • Great Lakes Brewery - Etobicoke, Ontario (1987)
    • Great Lakes Brewing Co. - Cleveland, Ohio (1988)
I suppose there are no trademark issues here since it is two separate countries?

    Cheers!

Getting ready to watch some professional football.
My new beer for today is Phaedrus, a fresh-hopped IPA from Culmination Brewing in Portland, OR.
Gold color. Big white head that receded to a thin layer. Nice amount of lacing.
    Aroma of fruit and pine.
Taste of grapefruit, orange, pineapple, melon. Late pine.
Medium-bodied. Not a lot of bitterness.
