https://news.yahoo.com/still-short-1st-anniversary-evanston-161500236.html Brewery of the year, and no one's talking about it? Had dinner in Evanston last night, drove right past on the way home. Had I known.
I saw them grab the title at GABF, good for them. If I'm ever up in Evanston area, I'll def try to stop by. Looks like they won for their Helles and Rausch-Helles, which is funny. Was it the same base? Close to the same process for sure.
Being best small brewer of the year isn’t what it used to be. Back in the day it was “Awesome, we’ll have another good locally brewery to choose from.” Now it’s like “Are you really going to be any different from the hundred other established local breweries with proven track records?”
Such pessimism. Have you tried them? Based on reports from beer drinkers, I'm willing to give them a try.
When I visited earlier this year they weren't canning yet. That has changed! I picked up single cans of a Helles Lager, a Kolsch and yes, a hazy boi from Bottles & Cans. Their brewpub is pretty massive and has a TON of classic / vintage cars on display. Whoever owns that place seems to have some serious loot.
Stopped in last month for the first time and was blown away. The place is HUGE with three separate areas. You can tell this building was used for automotive purposes in the past and as someone who is a car nut, this was a one-off, unique brewery. Beers were good, servers were friendly and food was excellent. It is an absolute hike from the Roselle area so it won't be a very often visit for me, but I wish it was.
Really liked their Rauchbier and their Pils. Wasn't that big a fan of the Alt. Sticke Alt was better, but that is hard to gauge, as the only authentic Sticke Alt I've had is from Uerige.
