A Rant on Beer Influencers

The real Darwin was an influencer. And a damned good one. True. Once you turn 50 advertising doesn't apply to you unless it comes from AARP or some similar source. Nobody else wants your business. Nothing "influences" me unless I have to pee.

 

Reviving this thread to post another very similar rant -

No one cares about your can/glass/pour shot to start with. Adding action figures and funko pops makes it even more lame.

This is a day late and many dollars too short…I can’t believe I’m the first poster to point this out but Darwin aka @dar482 was a poster here for quite a while and a rather nice guy too. I doubt he’s trying to go the influencer route, rather the “I just love beer” route. He also worked at what used to be a really good shop (I don’t know him personally, but I have been to store, it’s been closed awhile now) and he’s not some Johnny come lately, he’s been doing this for awhile.

Their "shitting on hazy ipa" example is pretty much the same as you complaining about "middle aged dudes/cicerones on social media". Do you see how hypocritical you're being?

 

Yeah, he hasn’t been around in awhile now. Even his last couple years here, he was reviewing beers more than being on the forum. My first few years posting in the old Mid-Atlantic forum, he posted more frequently.

 

If one watches MeTV (old westerns) you may learn the alphabet soup of q and v drugs to cure what ails ya'. "Hey Doc, I want Invoqueria for my neuropathy, IBS-C, and athlete's foot OK"?

 

I'm not on social (BA Discord is as far as I go) but beer influencer sounds hilarious

I’m middle aged, and I hope to God all those Medicare Advantage, reverse mortgage and catheter commercials are targeted to folks older than me.

Beyond cable, though, the Facebook algorithms also seem very dialed in to influencing the olds. Even TikTok, which is “supposed to be” for tweens, and I think just overtook Google in usage numbers, is largely geared towards people in their 30s these days.

Hate to say it, but I doubt it’s folks born this millennium who have the spare cash for $25 four packs. Perhaps one reason the youth are gravitating away from beer.

 

What is the big deal? If you don't like influencers, don't watch/listen to them.
