Different palates and all that blah blah but calling Julius of ALL fucking beers “overly bitter” is one of the funniest things ever posted on this website.

Like what could you POSSIBLY be drinking that would, in comparison, be an IPA less bitter than that? I’ve got to know.

And before anyone says some shit I don’t even particularly love Julius and it’s easily my least favorite of the core four so I am not by any means blinded by love for that beer or whatever.

Unrelated: Whisper is absolutely one of the best marzens I’ve had in my life. Absolutely stunning beer.

I tend to agree, I think it’s one of the more balanced (regarding malt : hops) ipas out there

Anyone else think this batch of Hold on to Sunshine is an all timer? I’ve had so many batches that had almost no peanut butter. That is not an issue here. Unreal.

Might as well join the fun reminiscing. September of 2016. Line continued on the left all the way around. I had 2 friends with me who weren't really into beer and had never heard of TH. I prepared them in advance that there would be a long line, but they didn't really believe me. When we arrived, they were astonished that people would do this....for beer. But they had a great time chatting with people from all over; said it was fun because everyone was so nice (true).

Well like I said, a lot of the perceived bitterness was probably due to my expectation. Especially after smelling it I expected zero bitterness.

As to less bitter ipas, I don't drink a lot of hazies and my main beef with them is the general lack of bitterness. Bigger names that I can think of that are less bitter than Julius though are Pulp from Fieldwork and Juicy Bits from Weldwerks. Hell, other than the King Julius I'd say the other treehouse ipas were less bitter.

haha yeah i have to 100% disagree with that sentiment. beer quality has improved (craft beer in general, not necessarily tree house), accessibility/availability has improved, variety has improved, & hype has died down. those are all vast improvements over 2016 in my book.

Which canning date are you referring to? I just had one two nights ago from 9/9 and I would agree there was noticeable but not an overpowering amount of PB. Very robust body but a touch on the sweet side for my preference. Still, a great batch/beer and I'm glad I have two more waiting for me in the fridge.

HARD agree. Like no matter what comes into my local stores (save Cantillon I’m sure but it’s been a few years) or what local breweries release I don’t have to rush to get it. I can go in three days later and it’ll still be there. Same if it ends up on tap somewhere.

It’s just a much more relaxed and bountiful environment.

No way in hell would I ever want to go back to 2015-16 Tree House. Standing in line for 2 hours for 6 Eureka w/ Citra is an all-time terrible beer experience. And I love all the Eurekas.

Anyone try the Schwarzbiers? I may swing by for the coffee.

Bring back Snowtober and Merry Mint. Anyone remember those?!

Thought Bergsteiger was great. Didn't pick up the Kaffe Bergsteiger though, but based on regular Bergsteiger, I could see the coffee addition complimenting it nicely.

Wasn't Snowtober being good with chili somehow one of the earliest Tree House controversies on this forum? That and the bell for tips being intimidating were a couple of my fondest memories from the 2014/2015 Tree House thread.

As in Snowtober was added to a chili? I don't remember that, but as someone who adds beer to their chili, I'm hoping it wasn't me who began this controversy.

Oh hell yes, Sap is back just in time for my trip up this weekend.

Slightly related, I assume Charlton will be insane on Saturday for folks stocking up for Thanksgiving. I'm guessing that Friday at open might be less intense?

Snowtober happened before my awareness. I do remember something from Jay O mentioning Ma with (I think) Nachos. Maybe he was mocking a previous Snowtober w/chili controversy?

Ah I think you're right. And I don't think there was actually any controversy in the case of Snowtober. I just confused which less trendy Tree beer/food pairing generated random backlash
