...I like a lot of the Epic beers, but despite having (had) a Denver location, a lot of the beers I used to see 10 years or so ago are never seen in regular distribution around Colorado Springs anymore; i.e., Utah Sage Saison, Double Skull doppelbock, Mid Mountain Mild...basically all I see are various Big Bad Baptist iterations and an occasional late Fall pumpkin offering...

I’m not surprised. I think the article states they’ve cut production roughly 50% over the years. Still somewhat odd they wouldn’t distribute in their own backyard. Unless those beers weren’t making them dough?

...I've tried special ordering some of their beers, but apparently the distributor for Colorado Springs can't (or wouldn't) get those beers...

Epic's taproom is one of my favorite spots in Denver. They always have a ton of varied taps and I don't think I've ever had a beer from the CO. location that I didn't like. Their hazy IPAs are low-key some of the best sweet/juicy versions anywhere, too. I think they just don't get any attention because they aren't in hand-labeled 16oz cans. I'm glad they'll keep things rolling in Utah, although whatever coffee roaster they're using over there at least used to be rough as hell. I guess I shouldn't be surprised since Utah and coffee are akin to oil and water. Glass half full, maybe we'll see Spiral Jetty again. Pretty sure that one is/was Utah-only.

Guess the $300 I spent on Baptists over the past 2 weeks wasn't enough to save it.
Hopefully they'll follow through with keeping a tap room open. I'd hate to lose it completely. It's one of the few places we'll actually go anywhere near downtown for.

Their volume has really decreased since their peak in 2017, dropping 55% to less than 13,000 barrels in 2021.

my dude Spiral Jetty is sold in 22oz bombers at most if not all UT based DABC stores. I see it every week. Not sure how fresh they are though

I really enjoy their Munich Mayhem seasonal personally. Glad to hear (for me) the UT location is staying open

Somewhat related, looks like 10 Barrel is permanently closed as of today, too. They just announced it on their Instagram. Not sure they were ever a great fit for Denver beyond using that location as a gateway for other markets. Either way, that's 2 large RiNo locations leaving in a short amount of time.

On the other side of the coin, Left Hand's new RiNo spot just opened. They're a bit further north of everything else, so it'll be interesting to see how things work out for them.

I used to stop at Epic's tap room at least once a trip when the old $dayjob had me traveling to Denver once a month.

Sadly, after getting burned by their infected releases on more than one occasion I steer clear. Though they did their best to make amends, after multiple infected bottles I gave up on them.

But yea, must have been the pandemic not burning customers on infected beer.

No one cares about 10 Barrel…

    Welcome to RiNo, Lefthand!
Nitro Fest sounds like it’s going to be quite the party this year :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I went to Epic two days before they closed and asked the bartender if they were going to have a fire sale for bottles and she said they were shipping it all back to Salt Lake. If true, so weird they'd spend all that money to ship pallets of heavy beer and not some Foeders that are worth tens of thousands of dollars. Anyway it'll look good in the backyard I'm in for $20 opening bid

From BusinessDen, the owner of Epic Brewing bought the building for $3M in 2014, sold it for $6.5M in 2022
