I recall when Founders first introduced Nemesis that they quickly got a C&D letter from another brewery over the use of that name, but I don't recall if Sweet Repute was the new name for the same beer. I'm thinking that all of that name fighting was long before '09. Too many of my accurate brain cells are long gone.

Obviously a fight they eventually won if that is the case.

    A definite must try.
A good, well any, wheat wine is very hard to come by.
I just wish they skipped the maple barrel.
Oh well, can't always have it my way unless I brew it myself.
I wish they would bring back Double Bastard.
    That was my favorite IPA.

Yeah, or some sort of mutual agreement with the other brewery. But the current use of the Nemesis name by Founders just started with the release last year (or maybe it was 2020 ), so it took a long time for it to happen.

You must be thinking of Double Trouble, a double IPA. I don't think they've ever had a Double Bastard.

Or are you thinking of Stone's Double Bastard?

Yeah, that's it. I had a senior moment. It's been a while since I had it.
That was a tasty beer, with a nice alcohol kick.

Yes, I enjoyed Double Trouble as well. Have you tried their 4 Giants DIPA? It's recipe has a component of Double Trouble (Sleeper Cell, Grease Monkey, 10K, and Double Trouble). You may want to give it a shot if not yet tried it.

It’s been a long time since I’ve had either so I can’t recall. I still have bottles of each, but the 09 nemesis is way past its prime for any comparison.

Interesting, was nemesis the black barley wine on tap or the maple syrup wheat wine available?

Not sure. It definitely wasn't a black barleywine, but I don't recall detecting a lot of maple syrup flavor in it either. It tasted like a BA wheatwine, that was pretty sweet and had a lot of vanilla overtones.

Bring back Seeing Double and Devil Dancer, IMO. And why not do a run of Doom as well? All were great beers.

OG FIS returning would be nice. That beer with a year of age on it was an amazing thing.

    Update of the origin of Sweet Repute with regards to Nemesis/Nemesis(09). From Founders;

“Nemesis was certainly the inspiration, but there were a few recipe tweaks when we made Sweet Repute. Good thinking!

    Cheers.”

Not exactly the clearest answer but corroborates @beerhan ‘s thoughts. Cheers.

Looks like this one has maple added rather than being aged in maple barrels. Will still definitely buy though.

I will freely admit I did NOT enjoy (in capital letters, nonetheless) the first couple of bottles and my review reflects as such

    That being said...

I have been enlightened by its deliciousness and shall edit said review as such....

Not sure why I didn't like the first couple of bottles?
