Yikes...I was hoping to pickup some bottles of the Two-year Barleywine for $40 or $50 bucks on MBC...So much for that

You'll probably be able to pick them up for whatever the Birthday, weller and Blanton's are/were going for.

Seems like that was $75 - $100.... Bummer. I'll buy 4 bottles of 2016 or 2017 BW instead

That seems high - That's not only above trade value, but above what even Goose sells them on-site from their cellar. Should be closer to $60-80.

Thats on My Beer Collectables...The only site I would have a chance to nab any of these...and ya, $60-$80 vs $75-$100...I'm going off memory. Still way more than I was hoping

Lots of 2022 BCBS for sale, not many bids though. I think prices will come down. I was able to get a mixed pack of five vintage Bourbon county barley wines (no 15's) and one 2022 2-year for a pretty decent price.

Please hold one at the store of these 3 above for me please and go ahead and toss in OG for a great mixer 4-pack. I’ll be by in an hour for pickup.

The thing that I generally appreciate about beer is the ability of the brewers to pull so many different flavors out of raw ingredients. Whether that is through a simple or intricate grain bill, yeast selection, fermentation temp, water chemistry or hops, it's amazing the variety of flavors that are produced through the "same" 4 main ingredients. I'm much more appreciative of the stouts that derive their flavors from the process rather than any potential natural or artificial flavors. So out of the lineup, I'm excited to try the original, coffee and the reserve.

Actually @BigIronH , now that I see you are in Michigan, if you are ever in the mood for a non-barrel aged barley wine, try Bell’s Third Coast Old Ale. It’s a great one… and you’ll find the price significantly better than the Goose beer. Hopefully the new ownership is able to keep it in production.

    That is very true!

However for many (most?) of today's craft beer consumers the flavor nuances provide by the basic 4 ingredients is not always enough. They want to be 'hit over the head with a sledgehammer' with flavor and often times the brewers will choose to use add-junks to keep their customers happy.

In today's brewing, one of the basic ingredients of hops is being 'manipulated' to provide more aroma with new products like aroma oil extracts. Craft beer consumers want moar!

Later this evening I will be drinking (and enjoying) my homebrewed English Bitter Ale which in some ways is the antithesis of today's popular craft beers.

    Cheers!

Ha...I saw that one...I almost put a bid in. Were you the only bidder? That was a nice collection.

You didn't mention King Henry, so I'm going to assume this was 13,14,16, 17, and 18 (the coffee BW)?

Or was it a mix of BW and WW?

    It was 2x 13, 16, 17, 18 WW, and the 22

Sure thing. I wonder how many times we've bid each other up on other lots : /

I don't do much there but when I do it's usually a straight buy. This only the second auction I participated in. I'm no threat!

I went in 18 and 17, haven’t been since, but yes, will make my triumphant return, ok, not so triumphant:slight_smile:! Have you gone in last years, if so, how was it? I have been out of the BC scene a bit, I suspect the hysteria is long gone. Wondering how this event will be.

I've gone to the Croxley's event the last 3 years. Last year, they wisely held it in the back room area and gave wristbands to those who had tickets. Made the process organized, and no rush for any pours.

I like this event because I pay one price and try the BCBS variants the first day; no chasing tap handles or paying crazy bottle prices and not knowing if I like the beer. Plus, this year you can buy a bottle of the anniversary. in 2020 they did 16oz growler pours (for $20, but great to share with friends the next day).

I'll be there when it starts at 2:30pm.
