Thoughts on Goose Island's 2022 Bourbon County (BCBS) Lineup?

Better than I thought it would be. We'll see what I find on BF morning. Lat year Double Barrell was $55 at the store I went to, but other placed had it for $65. Also, it was a total letdown like what I'm hearing with the 30th this year. OG, Coffee and Barleywine only for me this yearif I can get it

 

Was out searching for some Bourbon County today and came across a single 2014 Bcs bottle. I was pretty excited. Even if its terrible it was cool seeing that bottle again

 

I haven't bought anything from GI since 2015, and that was before reading Barrel Aged Stout & Selling Out a few years later.

I was tempted for the first time by the return of barleywine, but I'd rather spend my money at local breweries for Black Friday, so I'm unwilling to chase it (and I suspect if you don't chase it, you won't get any).

 

Let the chase begin!?!

 

One of my regular Black Friday stops in MA is already selling 2022 BCBS. They've got:

coffee for 25
regular for 13.50
sir isaac for 25
30th for 40

If you want to pay top dollar, hit up Top Hops (NYC) online pre-sale. They have everything except Prop.

It feels like the ubiquitous BW is going to be a hard get this year...

 

I am excited for the coffee one, and will get a bottle of it. The others are interesting, but not sure I will get them. Even if I don't but them, there's a very good chance I will get to try them.

 

My shop advised they are getting 4 packs of original this year.

So not just Chicago, as I am in Ohio (as questioned previously).

 

All of of those sound good to me. The barleywine interests me the most, but I probably wouldn’t pay that price. It’s moot anyway. I believe I saw that it’s 17% which is above the NC legal threshold. I’ll call it a day if I can add some coffee to my Black Friday morning.

 

My local says they still don’t know what they’re getting yet but will be a lot less than usual. Have gotten everything but Prop in the past.

 

Of the 5 places I have reached out 2, only 2 have told me that they currently know what they are getting. One said they will know tomorrow. I'm planning to touch base with the others tomorrow and see if they are in the same boat.

 

Bizarre tasting event at Top Hops. 1 hour tasting, 6 4 ounces pours, $85. A one hour event??? $85 ???? !!!! And 24 ounces of high ABV beer is way too much in an hour.

 

Pretty standard event for Bourbon County release. GI has been doing these for almost 10 years now and prior to this year would sell out a whole days worth of hour long tasting sessions within a few hours. I will say the beer never tastes as good as it does at the tasting session. Whether this is because they let it get to room temperature, aerate, etc. I don’t know.

 

I See that goose's schedule for this year is for hour-long tastings, but was it always this way? For some reason I thought goose's used to be longer, and that they only did 2 or 3 sessions on BF, not...like 8. Am I bonkers?

 

Yes, you are bonkers. They’ve been an hour and they’ve had multiple sessions on Black Friday through the day.

 

It all seems very last minute this year. Last year I had my pre-order in weeks before the release.

 

I assume it is mostly based on size of business, but all the businesses that I've contacted in Cincinnati never seem to know until the week of. I am shocked some know the week before this year! -And, I wish there was pre-orders, but that's never been done locally.

 

Were these sold in kegs as well?

Curious if I should try to stumble into the Coffee on tap for the "tick" and move on without spending $25. It's the only BCBS from previous years that I've really wanted to try. It was discontinued right about the time I got into craft beer, back when people shit lorded BCBS.

 

They do get kegged in limited quantities. Most bars, at least in my area, save them for special events.

 

Received a follow up email this morning trying to push these. All but one session time slot remain available at $135 + “Oznr Fees” + Taxes.
