My thread title may be misleading but if you read this post and subsequent replies, you might have a better idea of what I wish for and whether anyone else sees value in it.
Somehow, I have a knack for finding beers which have very few reviews/ratings. Sometimes I don't recognize the other reviewers/raters names and I have no idea if they tend to be generously high in ratings or very conservative/strict in their typical reviews/ratings. I would value seeing an indication of that person's average rDev value next to their name. If someone rates a beer a "4" and they are an easy rater with an average rDev of +6%, that tells me something different (i.e., this beer may or may not be pretty good) than if the same person has an average rDev of -6% (this beer has a good chance of being quite good because that person likes it and in general other people tend to like beers more than that reviewer does). I'm just looking for a way of figuring out how much to trust the ratings when there are only a couple that have been done, and therefore have a big influence on the current average rating for a beer.

I'm not one to use beer reviews or ratings before purchasing beers, but this suggestion makes a lot of sense for use by those who do use other's ratings. And having this data available might get me to start using it.

I probably should have added that I routinely am the guy in Trader Joe's who is standing off to the side checking BA beer ratings/reviews for all the new beers they always seem to have. Perhaps it is excessive effort to buy a couple cans, but I really value BA as a resource.

I'm the guy standing off to the other side checking to see if I've tried an (seemingly) unfamiliar beer.

But to be honest, I check to see if some of those I follow (and trust) have tried a beer -- but I go by my knowledge of their experience not their rDev.

    I like this idea.

FWIW, I track my own rDev. My own ratings have seen a drop (though still a positive rDev number) compared to when I started. I do wonder how much of this is due to being the only reviewer/rating for many local listings though. With that last part in mind, it does add some uncertainty to rDev and whether or not the beers the reviewer / rater typically scores receive enough site input to establish a meaningful rDev.

But uncertainty aside, I think it would be an easy and quick snapshot to see where a reviewer sits relative to others.

To be fair, a lot of those Trader Joes beers are hit or miss.

I understand what you're asking. What I also take into consideration is how many beers the reviewer has posted. And yes I know that everyone has to start somewhere, but if JohnDoe has only reviewed two beers (and are both 5's), and #PapaGoose has rated 700+, you can guess who has earned the most trust without the need for a rDev.

Still, it could be a useful tool.

My TJ's sells more beers than their own labels.

    I love this idea

I would find it helpful for my own reference

Oh, I agree, if I know the reviewer's history from prior reviews of beers that I know that means a lot, but I have only been using BA 2 years and there are a lot of reviewers I don't yet know well enough yet.

My TJs sells a lot of beers from local brewers plus other brands, but I don't drink the TJ- branded beers.

I was about to "like" this post, but the Josephsbräu beers are some of my favorites... however many are left.
