I discussed this beer last year (October 2021):

"Last evening my wife and I went out for dinner at a local craft beer bar/restaurant. I had my first pumpkin beers of the season:

I started off with a draft pint of Dogfish Head Punkin Ale and I do appreciate that they judiciously add spices in the brewing of this beer. My wife took a sip and commented: "tastes like fall".

They also had Troegs Master of Pumpkins Ale on tap. I have never had this beer before and I ordered a 13 ounce tulip glass of this beer. Now, in contrast to Dogfish Head Punkin this beer was quite big & bold in spices. From the Troegs website:

    “Master of Pumpkins Ale
Ale brewed with Pumpkins & Spices
We taste: nutmeg, cinnamon, caramel, vanilla bean”

    https://troegs.com/beer/master-of-pumpkins/

To my great (and pleasant) surprise I really enjoyed drinking this beer. Given the fact that there was plenty of spicing here I still very much enjoyed this beer. If I can locate some packaged versions of this beer at my local beer retailers I will buy some and provide a more thorough discussion of this beer in an upcoming NBW thread."

    Cheers!

Schlafly is a fantastic beer. When I visit Ohio in the fall automatically buy a 6 pkg.

The only pumpkin beer I will drink is RAD pumpkin ale from Pedal Haus brewery in Tempe, AZ. Dedicated in memory of Rob A. Dollar who was killed while riding his bicycle. A good beer and a good cause ... :slight_frown:

Let’s get this going again for Thanksgiving!

Is it possible that my tastes are coming around to this style, or are brewers less interested in the kitsch and are actually trying to brew drinkable Pumpkin Beers? Regardless, this one has the nutmeg, cinnamon, and clove, without being overly sweet, and with none of the artificial sensation on the tongue. It is more like pumpkin bread than pie. Now that the head has settled down, it is a nice relaxing beer on a cold evening.

I recommend Cigar City Good Gourd if you’re looking for a drinkable version of the style. Not overly sweet or spiced, just nicely balanced and drinks well below its abv

This is a fun beer, and used to be a favorite within the style.

Nice roasted malt mixed with graham crackers, gingerbread, and cinnamon. It has a café laté aroma that tastes like black coffee and barker’s chocolate. The mouthfeel is somewhere between velvet and whipped cream.

And bonus points, it is an Imperial Stout, even if only at 8.6% abv. Let’s see if it will rattle some chains over in the Imperial Stout appreciation thread. Ha!

The base style, a Wild Ale, shines through! After several minutes the the head finally holds at a thick blanket, after leaving an equally thick and continuous coating of lace. Adding the yeast only made it cloudy, and added an elegant, rich glow. Fine columns of carbonation stream upwards from within.

After the initial strong punch of oak and cider vinegar, to the nose, old leather book bindings come forward filled by lemon. White wine replaces the vinegar while the oak softens without dissipating.

Roasted pumpkin has a mild nutmeg and cinnamon flavor (very mild) with brown sugar. The tartness is fairly high on the pucker quotient, with sweetness a distant second. Oak and acidity form a strong backdrop and are the primary components of the long mild finish.

it has a light to medium body and the texture of stiff satin. Alcohol is labeled at 7.7% and that certainly feels right. The carbonation bursts on the tongue with each sip. It is appropriately dry for a wild ale.

I’m loving this beer, and very happy to have reserved it for Thanksgiving afternoon. It has a clean elegance and is just right for setting the palate before dinner.

Cheers to you all and may this Thanksgiving be happy for you and your families!

I only bought the one, otherwise you would be seeing one n the mail.

I stand by my earlier comment that brewers must be doing these beers better these days.

No picture tonight, however Left Hand’s Pumpkin Spice Latte Nitro is hitting the spot, after a full day cleaning up after ANOTHER wind storm. My back is thankful for the rest.

This is a bit thin and watery, however it smells and tastes remarkably like pumpkin pie. The nitro is a good touch, and the head (after the cascading stopped) held 1” for a loooong time. Aside from the resemblance to pumpkin pie, nothing really special, just a fun novelty beer.
