Blonde On Blonde from Barreled Souls. A blonde barleywine aged for 12 months in Barton bourbon barrels. Comes in at 13.9% ABV.

Bottled 12/13/2021 and opened a year later. Pours a nice copper color and is fairly transparent. About an inch of head that recedes fairly quickly. The nose is insanely good. Rich toffee pops immediately. Strong bourbon, vanilla, raisins, candy, a bit of sherry, and prunes. Lovely.

The taste is amazing. Quite sweet, but not too sweet. Toffee, big malts, vanilla, plums, raisins, a big honey note, and a bit of maple. Lemon bread, bourbon, and candies. Very nice overall.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied. The sweetness and low carbonation have the potential to make this syrupy, but I don't think it gets there. Just right. The ABV is remarkably hidden. I honestly can't believe it's as high as it is.

Everyone's gone, time for a barleywine. Kane's BA Vengeful Heart.

There is a really nice chocolatey molasses note that takes center stage. Kane doesn't say how long this blend spent in barrels but it tastes like an extended period to me. I also get potent leather and hints of dark fruits and soy. The booze is plenty strong, no surprised at 15.5%, but it's warming and refined. Another great barleywine from Kane.

2015 Firestone Walker Helldorado Blonde Barleywine. 13.2% ABV.

Time did this beauty right! It’s still nicely carbonated, barrel just fills the palate. Great mouthfeel.
Truly the Art of the Craft and one of the best beers I’ve experienced in 2022.

Man, have not posted for a week and a half and i am 3 pages behind...must be a major release or something!

2021 Sebago BBABW courtesy of Dan @DIM thanks Dan!

Taste is really well balanced, finishing a touch hoppy. Huge malt base provides dark fruit flavors as i am getting some fig with the base. Upon aspirating after a sip, the bourbon becomes very pronounced which along with the hopping balances this beer to the point where there is a noticeable bitterness in the finish. Getting a touch of vanilla in the subsequent aspirations. This was a pleasure to try!

    Cheers!
    Tom

Excellent, glad to hear Dan! Da Boss and i have a timeshare trip for next spring to WV. Why WV? Aside from being in the timeshare trip for about 100 years, it's about 3 hours east of Athens, OH and Jackie O's. Will make a trip to see Jackie for sure!
    Cheers!

Don from Hair of the Dog. Aged for at least 4 years in rye, rum, port, and bourbon barrels. Comes in at 17.8% ABV. It's an intense beast!

Opened from a 16 fluid ounce bottle. Fridge temp, but let in warm before tasting. Not a sound when opened. This is definitely a still barleywine. The nose is insanely intense. Rum comes across initially, but this is a really nice rum. Reminds me more of the flavors from a Foursquare rum rather than a cheaper rum with a bunch of sugar added. Bourbon definitely makes a presence after a minute or two. Reminds me of Eagle Rare. This is definitely a beer to spend time with on the nose. Evolves rapidly and has so much to offer. Also getting some toffee, apricots, rhubarb, and orange.

The taste is intense. Really nice. Definitely boozy. The alcohol is immediately clear on the first swallow. This is one best consumed in small samples! Big rum and bourbon notes. Not getting as much of the port, but the rye does show up here. A nice spice. Slight pepper. Brown sugar, plums, raisins, an earthy note, and graham crackers. Wow. So intense. For me, this comes close to the line of a harder alcohol.

Mouthfeel is quite thick and viscous. That lack of carbonation really plays into the mouthfeel. The aftertaste is a mild sweetness from the barrels. Overall, a pretty awesome experience.

Man, I'm really curious how this one will age. I have a couple of additional bottles. I could see this tasting insanely good after 10 years, but I could also see it not changing much. Zero carbonation, so this isn't going to go downhill. Science!

Stone fruit and spirit on the nose. Dry, apple, pear and light stone fruit upon sipping with drying oak. Enjoyable but not earth shattering. Gets a + for the incredible head retention.

Agreed, I used to actively avoid wheatwines. Jackie O's and Goose Island have brought my average wheatwine score way up in the last year. There were 2 Wood Ya's in my last Jackie O's box and I was excited to find a 2019 bourbon county wheatwine today. I'm officially converted.

It isn’t a reach for me to call straight jacket from Revolution my favorite beer. This is my first time trying their 2022 iteration and I can’t say enough about it once again. It’s hard to put it into words how incredible this beer is. Caramel, toffee, brown sugar, bourbon, vanilla, mild oak to keep from being cloying. This is a masterclass of what barrel aged beer can be. I’m lucky to have several of these and will do a vertical of 2020, 2021, 2022 perhaps for Christmas that I will post on here. I have a hard time thinking much will top this vintage. Fantastic.

This is a beer for sharing. Classy. It smells expensive and expansive.
Hits the mouth like a backhand slap. It just blows up - takes a few seconds for the experience to slow down and leave you with a taste of merlot grape skin, prune, hot sour cherry, some dry cocoa powder, then the prune jumps back in. So complex. So good.
Feel is surprisingly thin, given its +16% ABV heft. Hot. It can use 6 months in the cave.
Overall, fantastic offering that will get better in awhile. Beautiful beer!
    4.5 in the DB.

Not a big barleywine chaser, but I saw that my fancy local shop has ADWTD and Wendigo bottles. $90 and $45 respectively. Are these anywhere near worth it?
