I've been on Beer Advocate for almost 7 years now. There is a theory, still argued about, that cells of the body are replaced every seven years; thus making a new human. If so, does one's drinking habits change every 7 years? Mine have changed quite a bit. I used to drink famous beers on lists. Today, I drink mostly what I like... which is often not the same universe.

Welcome from a fellow Illinois Beer Advocate! I followed the same journey of dipping my toe in, than trying to try everything, more ABV, more flavors, more styles, until I finally settling primarily on styles, beers and breweries I enjoy the most.

    Cheers!

Thanks for reaching out. Being venturesome can get boring because too many beers are out there that are not worth the calories. I take it that you live in Chicago...

Yes I do, always have lived within the city, though the past three years have made me question whether staying is wise.

I still dedicate weekends to try two new beers. I shifted from drinking 2-3 beers at home per day to one and it works out better both for health and financially. Will typically have 2-3 if I’m out and about, but tolerance has dropped there as well (down from 4-5).

Hope you are able to find the beers you enjoy fresh where you live in Illinois, and that you join us in future style or new beer tastings, or perhaps WBAYDN where we have a congenial group of folks at the virtual bar that discuss beers and whatever else is going on.

Started participating on WBAYDN at the onset of the lockdowns three years ago, and have enjoyed my time and met some good BAs both local and out of state along the way. Folks are a lot more friendly than one may at times find in the Midwest forum. Snark is held to a minimum. :sunglasses:

Sure. I'll try WBAYDN. (What does it stand for?)
Typically, I only drink at home. About half the time I go to pickup beer, I will have a beer at The Beer Temple or Mousetrap or Pilot Project. Not much carousing at my age.

Ha, my carousing decreases each year, turns out I’m ok with it. Still like hitting places when traveling, or like you having 1-2 when picking up beer or hitting a brewery/beer bar. I’ll typically go out a couple times a month.

Of the three places you mention, I typically hit The Beer Temple (and Revolution Brewery) the most, and occasionally may stop by the nearby Maplewood and DMen Tap. Also want to hit Frank & Mary’s one day for lunch and a beer.

And sorry for the acronym. WBAYDN stands for What Beer Are You Drinking Now.

Here is the thread for today:

New Beer Weekend (aka New Beer Sunday - Saturday was added a couple of years ago). Here is the thread from last weekend:

You can enjoy following along or participating from home, or of course also when you are out and about enjoying a beer anywhere.

    Cheers!
