Cheers @ovaltine for this Barehands Brewing Thai Milkshake Imperial IPA, 9.5% ABV; 4.07 overall (BIF 16)

Pours a very hazed amber with a pinky of beige head. A little head retention & lacing

    S: Mangoes, strawberries

T: Follows the nose, some nectarine & vanilla as well, a touch of orange as well up front. More vanilla, mango & strawberry, plus more pronounced dryness & a little pink grapefruit as this beer warms up. Finishes with vanilla, sweet orange & a kiss of lime

MF: Medium body, slight carbonation, good balance for what it's shooting for. Carbonation picks up once warm

There is no way in Hell I would've guessed the ABV on this, pretty darn drinkable

Next up is Heater Allen Pils, a tribute to the pale hoppy beers first brewed in Bohemia 170 years ago. Made with Bohemian Pilsner malts and Czech Saaz hops. Comes in at 5.1% ABV. Compliments of @kemoarps in BIF #16.

Poured from a can at fridge temp. Pours an opaque yellow with an inch of white head. The nose is full of lemon, orange, grains, bread, wood, and a subtle hop note. Very nice and smooth on the nose.

The taste is really nice. Very refreshing. Orange, melon, honey, banana, citrus peel, floral, grassy, and a touch of leather. Good carbonation.

Mouthfeel is fairly light and dry. Overall, a really nicely done pilsner! Thanks, Kestrel!

@ovaltine introduced me to these beers back in BIF #14, those IPAs were so good, and I was super excited to find them when I visited Ohio with my family earlier this year

I've never even heard of that variant, and I was in their neighborhood last weekend

Next up is Himmat from Fair Isle in Seattle. Compliments (again!) of @kemoarps in BIF #16. He sent so many amazing beers from so many different styles. This is an incredible beer.

Poured from a bottle at fridge temp. I honestly had no idea what this would look like, but was surprised by the vibrant red/pink that came from the bottle. Looks gorgeous. A relatively thin layer of lightly colored head. The nose is insane. Raspberries that will blow your mind. So fresh and intense. Some vanilla, lemon, very tart, grass, a nice sweet candy layer.

The taste is similarly fantastic. Very raspberry forward. Lovely. Tart, dry, sweet, red grapes, plums, tannic. Just lovely.

The mouthfeel is fairly light. The aftertaste is on the sweet side. Lovely beer.

Cheers @WunderLlama for this BIF 16 return fire; Tree House Single Shot Coffee Milk Stout, 6.4% ABV; 4.39 overall

Pours an effervescent Mahogany with a finger of mocha colored head. Some head retention & lacing

S: Tons of coffee, some roastyness; great nose!

T: Plenty of coffee, dryness, roastyness & little lactose & woody hop up front, plus a touch of caramel, vanilla & just a kiss of boozeyness. Roasty, some Hazelnut Latte notes, dryness & a little vanilla once warm. Finishes roasty, sweet & a little dry, vanilla & hazelnuts show through

MF: Medium body, creamy carbonation, just a lovely feel to it

Easily one of the best mid ABV range beers of this Coffee Ilk I've had, so drinkable, a lot going on here

Would love to try both of these fresh"er", but all is not lost

12oz bottle from 2022 12 Days variety pk enjoy by 1/12/23 into a Spiegelau IPA glass.
L: Pours lightly hazed orange gold, a thin eggshell white head, some fine carbo, good retention, decent lacing w banding and solid sheeting.
S: Orange juice, caramel malts, yeast, light citrus zest, a hint of biscuty bread, gently earthy, light alcohol w warming.
T: Orange, light mango, light lemon, pineapple, a trace of stone fruit, very clean, green melon rind in the finish & linger. Affable sweetness to start then gently bitter to finish.
F: Brisk & alive throughout, semi-juicy, extra clean medium-light bodied w a fairly light center and a med-length lightly drying finish and a subtle linger.
O: Quite easy drinking, refreshing and very good tasting. Lightly hazy, juicy, lightly tropical & clean. Curiously simple coming from this brewery. It is very good in its style.

Last for tonight. Cyclops BA barleywine from Elysian. Comes in at 15% ABV. Just sent one of these to @DIM so we will see what he thinks! It looks like this is my 100th American barleywine, and 224th barleywine.

Poured at just over fridge temp. Pours a murky brown/orange with minimal head. The nose is really interesting. Toffee, orange peel, plums, malts, and raisins.

The taste is great. Malty, boozy, raisins, plums, orange, toffee, bourbon, citrus peel, earthy, grassy, and a candy sweetness. Although it's boozy, it doesn't taste like 15% ABV to me. More like 11% or so.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a fairly sweet aftertaste. This is a great beer, and I could see this aging extremely well.

E9 + Best of Hands: Corpse Pose, fruited sour.

    375ml corked/caged bottle. Don't see a date on it.

Pours a dark purplish red with a tiny head, looks very still. Smell is tart and jammy, tons of berry, maybe a slight woody funk.

Taste is really nice -- tartness is mild, jamminess is really powerful, woody funk dries it out a bit.

Mouthfeel is dry. This is a very nice beer.

Bought a six pack of their WCIPA in College Station two weeks ago, very bland and muted of a WCIPA IMO. My brother-in-law in Houston who is a pretty big beer nerd never heard of Bad Astronaut before. I never heard of them either till I saw their beer at an HEB in College Station.

Well today should feature more hops than a rabbit hutch, courtesy of the 16th iteration of the BIF supporting this hear weekly thread. I've got options from opposite corners, with @WunderLlama having supplied the northeastern stash, while @2beerdogs ninja struck me with a host of southwestern options. I intend to get into brews from both today.

update: I wrote this at probably 1300. Instead of tucking into the goodies, we decided to drive up to the island and surprise visit my folks, to support my mom's art show, and let them get some granddaughter time in (and to see the new car).

I figured Island was too appropriate of an option not to tap into.
    Island - Tree House

The beer pours a completely murky light orange. Massive pile of foam that settles down but leaves lovely lacing along the glass.

This is a beer with pureed and freeze dried mango and papaya. Honestly, though, the aroma smells like frozen peach juice concentrate.

Flavour is much the same. It tastes like peach juice/nectar that I've had that transitions over to juicy sweet hops and an underripe bitterness, also clearly from the hops. The bitter swell is shortlived, and then it finishes with more of the fruit juice puree in a creamy sweet note.
The body is delicately fine but sharp blanket of carbonation over a reasonably thick IPA body.

I am so grateful to Maynard for sending this (and all the copious rest of the Tree House IPAs!) my direction so I could try them for myself and have an informed opinion about the style from one of the best to do it. I feel guilty/ungrateful admitting that I'm not overly impressed with this genre of IPA (similar to the overly-adjuncted stouts). It tastes like freezer-juice... because it's pureed and freeze dried fruit. I could get the same outcome from drinking... fruit juice. Anyway, I'm rambling and being rude. As stated above I am truly grateful for the generosity and for the opportunity to try these treats for myself. Thanks, and cheers!!

Slack Tide Brewing Co. - Knockdown a black IPA that checks in at a nice 8.3% ABV.

Pours a dark black color, brownish around the edges. Huge, thick, frothy, mocha colored head initially forms on the beer. That head Lingers for a bit then dissipates but never completely. There is always a thin layer of foam on top of the beer at all times. Aroma is bright, pungent and strong. Notes of pine, grapefruit, citrus, roasted malt and some cocoa come through.

Taste follows the nose with notes of grapefruit, citrus, and pine, giving way to a pronounced bitter finish. The back end has notes of coffee, roasted malts, cocoa, and more woody pine. Feel is light to medium bodied. Smooth, but not really easy drinking. Although I will say the ABV is totally hidden in this one.

Overall it's a fantastic black IPA - expertly crafted and incredibly tasty. Easily one of the best I have had.

We are big maple lovers in this house @Beersnake1 and we buy the maple nuts but I figured they had to be easy to make.

Looked up recipes and they didn’t seem right for what ours look like so I YouTube’d it instead and I’m glad I did. Turns out it couldn’t be easier. Oh and this is public television at its absolute finest, perfection…

I plan to make some today if I can squeeze it in and will report back. I could eat these by the pound I think.

I like the sound of that beer. A lighter style dark beer with a kick, tons of flavor, and I'll bet it evolves nicely as it warms. A nice sipper, like a tailored dunkel.
