Imperial Stout Appreciation Thread (2022)

Finished up the Willettized and following it up with another coffee stout. Santa's little helper from Port Brewing this time. First time with this one, coffee bitterness leads the flavor when it's cold. Gotta let this one warm up a bit I suspect

 

That's news to me too! I thought lost abbey had some other brand for hoppy beers, hop concept? I picked it up at bevmo when I was looking for willetized. And yeah, I think there's a bit of bitter nuttiness going on here

2017 Bells Expedition Stout --- Just your basic old school well made Imperial Stout.

Actually, Stone occupied the Mata Way space in San Marcos before they built the Escondido campus. Still have a hat from one of my visits there back in the early to mid 2000's. Port Brewing moved into the space after Stone vacated. Lost Abbey was Tomme Arthur's spinoff and later Hop Concept was a spinoff brewery from Tomme. All three breweries were greatly appreciated in the literal and beer desert PHX was 15-20 years ago. Still remember and appreciate Serpent Stout, Old Viscosity, Santa's Little Helper, and Older Viscosity!

Chemesthesis by Jackie O’s. A 12.8% blend of Imperial Stouts aged for 19 months in bourbon barrels and conditioned on Ancho, Cascabel, Mulato, and Pasilla de Oaxaca Chiles, Cacao Nibs, Hickory Nuts, Cinnamon, and Vanilla Beans. This is awesome sauce.
