I figured the info was somewhere. I really don't understand why some breweries don't list the ABV on the bottle/can. Does anyone know if there is a specific reason?

That one is it interesting beast for sure. Glad you liked it! I wasn't sure if you would or not ...

Not sure why the ABV is not listed, it is on the BA Behemoth from earlier this year.

Desponia from Cigar City’s El Catador club. Barleywine aged in wheated bourbon barrels. This was exceptional. Cigar City continues to knock these club bottles out of the park.

Tonight I have Work Life Balance from Fair State Brewing Cooperative, another from @Beersnake1 . I live out the name, work-life balance. I work 6 hours a day 180 days per year:slight_smile:

From a brewery I've never heard of in a nondescript can, I have no expectations. Damn, this is absolutely marvelous. I'm going to start with the mouthfeel which is incredible. It's both soft and airy while being full and creamy. The perfect vehicle for the dynamic combination of toffee, figs, and chocolate. It's sweet for sure but has a wonderful depth of flavor and a lot 9f layers. The 13% is nowhere to be found. Thank you so much for this gem @Beersnake1 , I was absolutely blown away!

I'm sipping on another gem from @DIM - Santa's Brass from Drake's Brewing. Aged in Heaven Hill barrels.

This one was poured closer to cellar temp (around 50 degrees). The nose is phenomenal. The barrel really comes through here. Vanilla, toffee, port, raisins, truffle, and some oak.

The taste is wonderful. Super smooth. More viscous that most barleywines. Sweet toffee, brown sugar, vanilla yogurt, figs, dates, bourbon, raisin bread. The aftertaste is predominantly sweet candy/toffee. Mouthfeel is pretty thick bodied. Overall, a wonderful barlyewine! Thanks so much, Dan!

Fox Farm Copestone b5. Port is less prominent than in the past, sweet, smooth, raisin, toffee and bourbon. I feel the Port/Bourbon blends very well this year.

I'm just hoping the tree stays upright after it's decorated. We have two one-year old cats that love to climb up the middle. I'm hoping to avoid a Christmas Vacation incident :stuck_out_tongue:

I used to be mostly a stout drinker and this beer was a total gateway beer for me into the world of big boozy barleywines. Cool to see it again

Tree House Brewing - Tree of Bliss. Very complex, great depth of flavor - molasses, bourbon, citrus, vanilla, espresso, maple.

Not sure if you meant this one but it reminded me to crack one.

Store said it was 2017 despite the label saying 2016, so probably one of the two. Little hiss, less head. The aroma is intense, a smothering hug by an overserved, overperfumed grandmother. Such alcohol sweetness it drinks a bit like a 120 Minute Lite. Season’s greetings!

Had to add this one to the thread. From Good Word Brewing in Duluth, GA, A Tenacious Illusion. A 10% English Barleywine made by blending a barleywine and wheatwine. Very interesting. It's sweet, as expected. Very fruity. You'd swear they added cherries and/or strawberries but has minimal tartness. Alcohol is extremely well hidden. You'd get hammered on these very easily. Excellent effort by GW.

Re-reviewing this, my original was kind of slapdash.

Aromas of slightly burned caramel, potent but enticing whiskey, and figgy fruits are what I notice most. To varying degrees I also found leathery tobacco, naked oak, and hints of chocolate and vanilla. As great as this smells, it tastes even better. Everything in the aroma is here but with a little more balance maybe? The chocolate is a little more noticeable while the fruit is a bit diminished. The caramelized brown sugar is amazing, sweet but with enough char to keep it interesting. The whiskey is there throughout, warming every aspect in such a wonderful way. There is just a hint of a burn at the exhale, but that's to be expected. This is incredibly well executed and there is a lot more going on than I can describe.
