    Doppelbock #2
    [IMG]
    Weltenburger Kloster Asam Bock
500mL bottle stamped 285MO754 (whatever that means) poured into a mug at fridge temp 7.3% ABV. The beer pours opaque dark brown with ruby highlights and light brown head. The head recedes to a thin cap and leaves spots of lacing. The aroma is moderate in strength featuring sweet caramel and an earthy sweetness almost like molasses. The taste is bittersweet wet cardboard with more earthy caramel and a distinctive metallic twinge. Moderate bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a semi dry finish. Overall, good enough.

I've been a significant -rDev on all three Weltenburger Kloster beers I've reviewed this year. To me, they all taste as though they were held in a shipping container, in the desert for a few years before I obtained them. I'm enjoying this one slightly more as it warms...
    Cheers all!

[IMG] Finishing up the spoils of my last box from Terry @BBThunderbolt from BIF 16. Thanks so much for such an array of awesome beers man. I’ve enjoyed this thoroughly. Return fire will definitely be headed your way sooner than later. Anyways…

pours a translucent copper with a thick head of oatmeal foam. Nose is bitter hop and tropical fruit. Some malty sweetness. Taste follows suit, the fruit takes a back seat to a sweet malt taste and a slightly bitter finish. Feel is smooth and crisp. Excellent carbonation. Overall, above average. 3.5/5 CHEERS!

Rather cloudy amber-orange body; huge, thick and billowy bone-white head, very long lasting. Big caramel aroma with robust, earthy spiciness; dull esters; toasted malt grains. Rich malt flavor; caramel and toffee; mild alcohol presence; a sort of spiciness on the tongue. Heavy body; soft velvet and sticky feel on the palate; underlying sweet mouthfeel overshadowed by an overall dryness.

This is a rich and intense strong ale. Personally, I'd classify this as a Belgian style strong ale due to the use of candi sugar.

Prairie Artisan Super Pistache Bros BBA Imperial Stout, 13.6% ABV. Pours black with the usual meager Prairie Stout head, which left no lacing. Nose is pistachios and dark chocolate. Taste follows, plus bourbon, quite sweet, mild bitterness, some bourbon burn. Decent thick mouthfeel, with light carbonation. Overall outstanding.

Such a beautiful dark black body with just a suggestion of a dark beige head of that is there for a quick visit and then leaves.
Aromas of dark roasted malts and bittersweet chocolate.
Flavor is sweeter than you would think. Some of the best artisan dark chocolate you will taste. A full mouthfeel with a lovely lingering bittersweetness that leaves you wanting some more and more.
Really surprised at the sweetness and shall I say lightness of this beer. Perhaps the aging in the beer fridge for a couple of years has tamed this one a bit, but either way this is delicious.

    Cheers!

Dave, you have excellent pouring skills.

    Cheers to you! :beers:

P.S. My wife and I will be visiting friends for a Holiday Party tonight. I will be bringing some homebrews (Ekuanot IPA, Belgian Dubbel, clone of Orval, and Oatmeal Stout). Maybe I will 'call an audible' and being some Harvest Ales as well.

...after writing my notes and posting, I checked out the BJCP for 'Harvest' ale and came up with their 2015 Autumn Seasonal Beer category (didn't bother to see if they have an updated version of this)...anyway, I thought your efforts matched up well with their guideline points...even if I didn't look that up, I just thought you made a damn nice beer...got your saison and final CDL (Czech dark lager) set aside for my birthday early next month...

...and, yeah, your included notes mentioned the beer seems to age well for whatever reason, so bringing some of your Harvest Ale will probably go well...

Finished watching an entertaining England / France game (and not pleased with the result) and now it's time for beer #3. This comes courtesy of @foundersasap
    [IMG]
Cola brown on the pour, but a deeper brown in the glass with burnt sienna tones where the light shines through (and yes, I did just want to use a Crayon color to describe a beer). Beautiful, robust tan colored head with good retention and lacing. Aroma is pleasant, yet nondescript with some light malts.

Taste is.....not my thing. There's a light herbal bitterness that's nice, but there's something else going on here that makes me feel like I'm drinking pine needles or a potpourri candle. Some nice spices, but somehow the overall doesn't work for me.

Jeff, thanks for sending this my way. Glad I got to try it, and surprised at what I ended up thinking of it. Scrolling through the reviews, it seems like there's a wide range of reactions to it. Despite it not being my favorite, I still managed to polish it off very quickly, so maybe I liked it better than my review would indicate!

Pomona Island Brew Co - Put On An Iron Shirt

West Coast IPA with Citra, Magnum and Crystal hops, from England (7.1%).

Pours a deep, dark, brown'ish amber coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of caramel malt and herbal, resinous hops, with hints of citrus coming through as well.

Taste is a great balance of caramel malt and herbal, earthy, spicy, resinous, slightly woody and fruity hops, with lighter citrus notes of grapefruit and lime peel, as well as notes of pine and black pepper, with just a hint of cedar wood and nutmeg. Finishes with a medium/strong bitterness and some caramel malt and herbal, earthy, resinous hops lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

While European brewers seem to lump all these beers together under West Coast IPA, this feels much more East Coast to me, if this is a term that's even used anymore. It's not THAT bitter, with a very strong caramel backbone, while the flavor profile is dominated by herbal, earthy, spicy notes rather than fruity ones, with some resinous pine coming through as well. While it could still be a bit more bitter and resinous for my personal taste, I really like the flavor and balance here, especially those spicy and woody accents from the Crystal hops, which lend a certain unique feel to this.

    Straight from the can.
    Roasted malt aroma.
Flavor is somewhat nutty. Lots of roasted malts in here. Notes of chocolate in the flavor.
    Lighter bodied, but not watery.
    Delicious for the style.

We should be in Baudette in about 5 hours. There will be another when I get there, unless we stop in Bemidji.

One more beer for today, this one courtesy of @Coronaeus who has sent me a crazy amount of great beer over the last couple years via BIFs and associated shenanigans.

This is Barn Owl #25 from Bellwoods Brewery. It's an Imperial Stout aged for two years in oak foeders.
Pours a very dark brown. Above average dark tan colored head that receded to a thin cap & thick ring. Solid retention. Aroma doesn't jump from the glass but is really nice up close, with molasses, oak barrel and plenty of booze.

On the tongue, the extended time in the foeders is quite apparent, as you're immediately greeted by loads of oak followed by some roast, alcohol and somewhat muted caramel and chocolate. The oak is borderline aggressive, but overall the beer is well balanced. Slick and medium + bodied on the tongue. Good beer. Thanks, Peter!

[IMG] Sucking down the last of my return fire from the great @MacMalt tonight. One of my favorite styles. “Trade Proof@ from Magnify.

Pours a cloudy magenta with a half finger of pink bubbles. Nose is very much straw/razz/blackberry. Taste follows suit. Not hardly tart in the least but moreso sweet berry purée. Feel is full but not overbearing. Good carbonation bite towards the end. Overall, excellent, 4/5. Cheers!

Wow, still page one! Haven't been here for a while, but popping in with Other Half Double HDHC Mylar Bags IIPA. Regular Mylar Bags used to be one of my favorite OH beers, but the last half a dozen times I've tried it, I've been disappointed. This version had a lot of Untappd reviews saying it was highly dank, one of my favorite taste profiles, so I bought a single while I was in NYC yesterday.

Appearance is hazy verging on turbid, with a decent head leaving good lacing. Smell is strong pineapple + cannabis, making my mouth water, although I'm pre-emptively concerned about the melon-y aftertaste that was plaguing this and other OH hazies for a while, especially during early-mid Covid times. At first taste, my fears are allayed, with strong pineapple and mango riding atop a cannabis base that isn't quite as dank as I'd hoped it would be. Mouthfeel is both creamy and effervescent, and as it warms, the dankness deepens without become necessarily any more complex.

Earlier in my NEIPA drinking, I would have considered this an outstanding beer; these days, I'd call it very good. It doesn't help that I had a few truly excellent Finback DIPAs yesterday, against which this suffers by comparison. Happy to have tried it, will likely switch to Celebration the rest of the night.

Atelier Vrai - Samt Und Seide Zwo22

Imperial Porter aged in Oloroso Sherry barrels for 20 months, from Germany (9.5%).

Pours a pitch-black coloration with a small, creamy head. Smells of slightly roasted and caramelly malt and strong sherry accents of red/dark fruits and berries, with notes of plum, fig, black and red currants, as well as some chocolate and musty oak.

Taste is a great balance of slightly roasted, caramelly and smoked malt, chocolate and vibrant red/dark fruits and berries, with notes of raisin, plum, fig, blackcurrant, redcurrant and cranberry, as well as just a hint of licorice, ash and oak. Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and some roasted/smoked malt and red/dark fruits and berries lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

While this may feel just a little bit lacking in body and mouthfeel, it's really not too bad for what it is, while there are some wonderful, rich sherry, notes of dark/red fruits and berries, as well as some oak to this. I also really like the malt profile here, with a great balance of roasted, caramel and slightly smoked notes, while this never feels overly sweet or boozy despite those rich sherry notes. Overall, despite feeling slightly thin, this still makes for a very well-balanced brew with rich sherry notes.

Quite enjoying this, on the other hand, I'm glad I didn't buy a whole case.

    4.1/5 rDev -5.1%
    look: 3.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 4.25

2022 vintage - 13.1% ABV, aged in rye barrels. Poured from a 12oz bottle into a snifter. Served at 59F.

Clear, seal brown liquid with sandy brown highlights topped by a half-finger wheat cap, receding fairly quickly to a fine collar and faint surface slick. Vague lacing, sluggish retention.

Chocolate truffle nose with hints of fudge, tobacco, and spirit. Sweet-ish, berry-like coffee notes with roast malt rounding things out.

Lovely barrel quality on the palate - I am a big fan of Willett's 4 year old rye and the baking spice/vanilla/cherry character is front and center in this beer. Smooth rich roast malt in the base beer with hints of cocoa/coffee (which accentuates the aforementioned cherry quality) and loam leading into the fairly dry finish. Mild bitterness, low tannins - unremarkable hop presence.

Slightly fizzy, very warming without being fusel, medium-full bodied. Quite drink-able for the ABV.

More than the sum of its parts, and a superior value.
