Apologies if this thread has already been done, but I can't recall it. In fact, I don't know if this subject has been discussed much at all.

So I have some Great Divide S'mores Yeti in my fridge from the Yeti variety pack that I bought, and while all of them are pretty good (in particular Espresso Yeti, which is largely why I bought the pack to begin with) they are all very sweet and strong--especially S'mores Yeti, which is so absurdly sweet and rich I had a stomach ache for the rest of the night and into the next day. *shudders*
I don't want to drain pour them, and, in all honesty, they did taste pretty good the first few sips--but then an idea occurred to me. What if I were to mix them with a lower-abv and more bitter beer of a similar style? A porter or oatmeal stout? That would lower the abv and make it more palatable. Has anyone ever tried this with any success?

A similar thought occurred to me while I'm drinking this incredibly boozy and bitter 120 Minute. What if I were to add a splash of grapefruit or session IPA to the last few ounces? Is that an abominable idea? I've gotten so that I really don't care much for extremely strong and sweet beers and I thought cutting them with a slighter beer might balance them out.

I will! Next time I buy some more beer. Fridge is running low except for the high-gravity stuff. Hence why the "cutting it" idea is sounding enticing.

Add more Yeti flavored Yeti and try to dilute it to a less sweet beer and at the same time the flavor could get less in your face.

    Enjoy

Exactly. I was thinking either Bell's Porter or Deschutes Black Butte Porter. Both are between 5-6% and more roasted/bitter. That should balance out the 9.5% fudgy sweetness of the Yetis.

As long as you don’t cut it with a plug of bourbon….

Funny, both me and my friend have hit upon this lately. I've been doing it with extra boozy IPAs (Doubles and Triples). I normally go for IPAs north of 9%, but sometimes if the attenuation is off you get smacked with the alcohol taste.
Case in point: Stone 25th Anniversary Ale. I liked it, but that alcohol. Solution: cut with a lower or even session IPA. I forget what I used, may have been a Harpoon IPA, think once I tried with Centennial. Best of both worlds.
Added bonus: since this has been happening more with 12 oz. formats, I get to shape both quality AND quantity, going from "pint-sized" to a full pint (+)!

I couldn't even finish it. I drain poured the single can of it I bought. Way too boozy. Wasn't even enjoyable to me.

Folks have been blending beers for a long time, and for various reasons. Sometimes a beer is lacking, and needs a boost. Sometimes a beer is a bit much, and needs to be tamed a bit. Sometimes it's just fun to mix two beers and see what happens. The worst thing that can happen is ya drink some beer.

When I've visited a new-to-me brewery and have a sampler flight, after I've had my fill but some beer remains in some glasses, I will sometimes combine them into one glass to see what happens. Usually the beers that get combined are the ones that I liked the least on the flight, so nothing is lost as if wasting beer. To no surprise I haven't created any gems yet. Two or three marginal beers are still marginal when combined.

The solution is obvious, mix the 120 Minute with the Yeti.

You should buy another S'mores beer and then throw both of them out.

I've left a shot of Southern Tier Nitro Coconut Truffle Milk Stout in my snifter then added a can of SN Celebration IPA and it was damn good tasting. Ya never know until you try. Cheers!

Mix the DFH 120 with a DFH 60 (to create a reconstructed DFH 90. Then do a side by side with a normal bottle of DFH 90 and report back. Note that DFH already did this with their brewhouse 75min IPA which blended their 90 and 60. It was pretty darn good.

I've definitely done this with stouts that are too sweet or intense. In particular, I've bought 4-packs of Wiley Roots and Weldwerks stouts that are pretty good for a few sips but become intolerable after 4oz. At that point, mixing what's left with something like LH Milk Stout or even DBC Graham Cracker Porter makes for a surprisingly good item.
