Good morning BAs! Thanks @Peach63 for opening the VB doors. For the last 2 hours I’ve been on squirrels in the attic and basement inspection with the wildlife removal expert…coffee is a cellar pull - KBS MMF:

Bottled 10/1/20. Poured at 50°. Two years in the cellar and while still tasty chocolate fudge, there is a slight green pepper vibe. If you’ve got any from 2020 left, I recommend that you drink up! Cheers from chilly South Charleston WV!

Good morning BA's! Thank you @Peach63 for kickstarting a slow starting thread for Monday. I'm taking today and tomorrow off of work (yay me!). Plan to hit Bold Monk Brewing today. Picked up this Imperial Pilsner at Round Trip Brewing over the weekend. Never had one before. This is one of those beers that's a real challenge to review for me because of it's uniqueness and high ABV (11.5%). Unlike your RIS or big BBA stouts, can't hid the booziness in it. Anyway, below is my most honest review and rating of it. As the brewery suggests, I'm saving the rest of the 4 pack I bought for NYE and a snowy wintery evening. Cheers all and Merry Christmas!

    look: 5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 4
Appearance: Brilliant, clear gold color. Fluffy white head with compact bubbles. Good head retention. Slow rising bubbles.

Aroma: Distinct white grape aroma plus some floral, and wood barrel notes and hint of alcohol.

Flavor & Aftertaste: White grapes immediately followed by strong, boozy alcohol mixed with oak barrel flavor. Low sweetness. Moderate bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Very dry. Low carbonation. Shorty boozy finish.

Overall: This is a very interesting and unique beer. Never had ANYTHING like this. It's gorgeous in a tall pilsner glass; pouring a brilliant clear pure gold color with a fluffy white head exhibiting small tight bubbles and good head retention. You'll note the slow rising bubbles on close visual inspection. White grape aroma immediately jumps out; but it is quickly cut through by that booziness of the 11.5% abv. Be sure to revisit the aroma several times as you nose adjusts to the booziness and they'll you'll find some floral notes in there and the wood barrel flavor stands out more. Flavor duplicates the aroma precisely - white grapes on the front quickly followed by boozy alcohol. You also find some mild to moderate bitterness. It is dry start to finish. You might expect a prickly, champaign-like carbonation however, I found it to have a low carbonation on the palate. The alcohol is prominent and notable, start to finish, contrast that to a similar 11.5% abv stout where you really don't notice the alcohol until the finish most of the time. This is such a unique offering I risk overrating it. If you don't like super boozy beer then you'll probably not like this. If you like something very dry and boozy, this will hit the spot. Certainly not an everyday beer but not advertised as so. A special occasion beer. I suspect this was a difficult beer to make.

Got the estimate to remove squirrels and repair house…ouch…another cellar pull (yes, it’s a true below ground cellar with a fairly year ‘round even temp, albeit a bit cool this morning), KBS:

Bottled 4/22/21. Poured at 50°. Tasty, not much if any drop off in nose or flavor…I have more of this batch stashed here…I will return to my brother’s house in Huntington today, and fly back to Florida on Tuesday before the temps here in the Kanawha Valley drop into the single digits (brrrr). Cheers and have a magnificent Monday y’all!

    Howdy all and hoppy Monday!

First time drinking this Belgian Tripel here and it’s very good, lives up to the reputation and standards of Belgian of this style… 9%, 330ml bottle. Great on this early evening here:

Good day BAs! Thanks to @Peach63 for starting today's thread and to @ATL6245 for his review of a hybrid beer style! Apparently Brut is trying a come-back. Today's New Breakfast Beer for me is another from the excellent collection sent by @Whyteboar in NBW BIF #16:

2022's version of Brewery Vivant's Wizard Burial Ground. This is one I've had previously (Not the 2022 version and never posted the review (Probably consumed from a plastic hotel container at the wrong temperature), maybe before joining BA. Still, this is an excellent take on the Dubbel style. Rating 4.49, rDev +7.2% Thanks Craig!

Hi BA's! Coming to from Bold Monk Brewing this afternoon. Not my first time drinking their beer but first time at location. Right off the bat I may have found the best Kolsch and closest thing to German imports I've found in Atlanta. A light 4.7% abv, it has that certain grainy sweet malt bill, floral hops and moderate level of bitterness I've found I enjoy in a Reissdorf. Well done Bold Monk!

Lol! Squirrels in the attic. Man that's one of those things no one warned me about with home ownership, all the critters. I've had flying squirrels, bats, snakes, chpmonks, etc. Dadgum animal farm. Good luck to you my friend. Very challenging.

Morning! It's cold. High of 7° today and then colder. The forecasted lows for the next five days are between -17° and -29°. Hope the wind doesn't blow. Beer and firewood consumption are on the rise and luckily, I have plenty of both.

    On a sad note.
I live in a small town adjoining a state park and reservoir. Last Thursday night a local drove his four wheeler out on the ice and went through. He crawled out and up on the ice and phoned for help. Three men came out to help and they went through too. Two are in intensive care and two bodies we recovered last night by divers. RIP.

Next up, Bold Monk Resurrector Doppelbock 8.5% abv. I've had better Doppelbock, but not sure I have locally. I mean, Celebrator from.Ayinger is hard to beat. This one is not as sweet as Paulaner Salvator, making it dangerously drinkable for 8.5% abv. Good solid Doppelbock from this brewery.

This beer is a total trip. Bourbon Barrel Aged. Mixed Fermentation version of the Resurrector Doppelbock. That's right. A mixed ferm...Doppelbock. It looks like a doppelbock but tastes like a tart wild ale. WTH???? Generally, I don't like sours. They don't taste like beer. But this is nice. A dark beer that you can drink in the summer for refreshment but will put you on your butt at almost 9% abv. Yikes!
