A bit of quiet time at my parents house before the next round of holiday get togethers. Waiting for some family to come over, opened a Riggs Schwarzbeir in the mean time. This is always excellent. The brewery is in Urbana, IL, and one of the better versions of the style I have come across in the States, which is saying something.

Don't have me record collection with me, of coarse, ha, but some Miles...

Starting to feel like myself again today, thankfully. Felt like absolute shit there for a few days. If I can't drink a beer or if I take some days off I'm most likely feeling sickly.

    Cheers y'all!

Because I had the day off and Mrs. ATL6245 is working, I graciously volunteered to make dinner . Tonight is my modified Texas Chili recipe. I call it Pretoria Fields Chili. Recipe calls for three cans of Pretoria Fields Stout (or the stout or American Porter of your choice). Two cans in the chili and, most important, one can two drink while prepping. Feel free to drink two cans while prepping but always use two in the chili . Corn bread going in the oven closer to dinner time.

    Cheers!

Lol! I snuck it in on the Mrs. She hates beer but I thought a straight American stout would be perfect in it. So I experimented and just told her I have a secret ingredient. The loved it. I finally told it was a stout beer and she was surprised but told me not to change a thing. Win! :joy:

...with a couple of days ahead with overnight lows around -5 ℉, I moved all the beer from the 'Fortress of Solitude' except for a few 12 oz cans...these are being judiciously consumed to prevent 'freezer explosion'...even in the mini-fridge, they may burst their bounds, but with the beer move complete, it's time to relax and listen to the latest F. Zappa Petit Wazoo and Waka/Jawaka and Grand Wazoo release...

Santa Fe Brewing Co. -- Adobe Igloo
Winter ale brewed with cacao and chiles
ABV: 6.0%; pouring temperature: 36.1 ℉; canning info: BEST BEFORE 03/16/22

Auxiliary vices: still nursing the Mashbuild #11 and the Rocky Patel 60 robusto

Yummy, though would be way better on a hot, sunny 80 degree day.

Clear golden pouring. Lots of carbonation rising in the glass. 3 finger white fluffy looking head. Decent retention. no lacing on the glass.
The aroma is slightly funky and a hint of tartness.
There's a fruity flavor in here. The fruit flavor seems to be apple like to me. There's a hint of salt that comes into play that adds another layer to the flavor mix.
Light body, but good for the ABV. Crisp feeling.
    Tasty and refreshing.

What did you use? I'm thinking about trying a bock beer to see how much different it may be. I also think something like Deschutes Black Butte Porter would be really good.

Glad to hear you are feeling better. Did you have Covid, the flu, or just some usual winter crap?

i used perennial abraxas a couple years ago and it turned out pretty swell. never repeated it because it was kind of a pricey endeavor but may look for an alternative based on your guys’ suggestions.
