    Hey beer snobs,

New here, not new to beer. I grew up in the Midwest in the 80's drinking Bud Light, I'd rather smoke brown mexi-weed to be honest. I lived with a German couple after high school and they gave me a taste of Bavarian beers, who knew beer can actually taste good? Around this time American home and micro brews took off (thanks Jimmy Carter).

IMO most beers still kinda suck or 99% of them for two reasons, they simply suck or they are trying too hard. But obviously taste is objective and it evolves. A beer I like one day will not do it for me, is it my palette, that batch or both or neither?. Who knows, who cares, time to try something new or rotate your hit list.

As a very arrogant consumer here is my hit list light to dark.

Best Light: Pacifico with a lime, Tacate or Modelo are a good plan B, when it's super hot Corona, as a last resort. Micro style: Deschutes Wowza hazy pale is a great daytime beer also, tasty. I'll pass on PBR or Coors.

As a Beer virgin Gernan Wheat beer (Hefeweiss) was a game changer. Pualner, Weienstphaner, Franzikaner, and even some less authentic brands like Hoegaarden. I think I had one American Hefeweiss that tasted authentic and is no longer made otherwise American Hefeweiss are not the same, I think it's the yeast, or the 400 years of practice.

IPA's: I like the dank, skunky, floral notes. Breakiside IPA is one of the best for that, but I think Bridgeport was the best 20 years ago. Bodhizafa is the best IPA I can readily get now, but it's the most expensive beer, probably for a reason. When I was in Hawaii the Ola IPA was hands down the best I ever had, just hard to find on the mainland.

Dark beers: I like a seasonal beer, Jubeale Ale is amazing, Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale is a winner. Not usually a Porter or Stout fan but on nitro it works and who doesn't love a Guinness once in a while.

Drink good beer, not more beer! And Cheers! I'll let you buy me a pint one day if you are lucky...or vice versa.

It sounds like you have a well-rounded background in your beer-drinking experience. From the info that you have in your post I'm going to guess that you live in Oregon, which is a great beer state, or somewhere in the Pacific Northwest which also has a great beer culture. You're well situated in your beer surroundings.

Welcome to the BA site, and we'll look forward to you interacting and contributing with your experiences.

Check out the West Coast forum when you have a chance. We have a very active group of NW miscreants over there... you'll fit right in.

Welcome to the site. Enjoy yourself.
