Prairie Mo Peanuts, Mo Problems; 13.6% ABV; 3.84 overall

Pours an ebony with a pinky of mocha colored head. Head breaks apart into clumps, almost looks Bacterial in nature. Weird looking lacing, almost like a dirty film

S: Bourbon barrel & peanuts, some chocolate & dark fruit

T: Bourbon & peanut butter cream, plus marshmallow, plus dryness up front. Some woody barrel notes, marshmallow, chocolate & vanilla cream as this beer warms through, plus some dark fruit. Finishes dry with too much Marshmallow, some cocoa & a little barrel

MF: Fairly chewy, low carbonation, warming

Between the horrible appearance & too much marshmallow, this isn't one I'd buy again

How much does a single twelve ounce bottle cost? Never had one of their beers so ?

I’d planned to have this on Christmas Eve, then on Christmas night. Unfortunately a very ill wife, a couple of unruly children and an elderly mother-in-law had my attention captured from dawn ‘til dusk each day. I’m finally getting a chance to open a sipper. Here it is. Forager Kent the Otter barrel aged Barleywine.

Pours a deep black/brown with little to no head. Appears thick and viscous.

The aroma is strong. Dry wood up front. Stewed stone fruits, fig, red liquorice, pleasant. A little booze in the nose as well.

The taste follows closely. Barrel starts up front with that dry, woody character dominating. The liquorice is more prominent on the tongue, but the prunes and figs and dates are all there. This is very sweet. I won’t be able to polish this off myself in one sitting sweet. Still, not off-putting.

The body is thick and somewhat syrupy. The syrupy texture is the only negative to this beer for me.

This is really good. Likely not worth the trouble of hunting down, nor the price it costs to do so, but definitely deserving of being sought after.

    Cheers all, happy holidays!!

Tree House Tree of Bliss. A barleywine aged for 36 months in select bourbon and brandy barrels. This was sent by the extremely generous @DIM in a recent barleywine trade!

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a very dark brown with almost no head. The nose is insane. Brandy, bourbon, maple, brown sugar, toffee, milk chocolate, vanilla, figs, prunes, and raisins. Wow. So intense.

The taste is equally amazing. Big notes of toffee, figs, raisins, brandy, bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, brown sugar, sugar cookies, birthday cake icing. Insane integration of flavors. The ABV seems relatively low to me, but we will never know. This tastes like it's around 10% but it's probably up around 13% given the barrel aging time.

Mouthfeel is thick and viscous. Aftertaste is mostly sweet and full of bourbon and brandy. Overall, an incredible barleywine. So happy to get to try this! Thanks, Dan!

Beer # 1 from the 12 Beers of Christmas: Elmhurst Brewing Co. - Santa's Liquid Helper a bock aged on oak for one year.

Pours a dark ruddy brown color. Thick two to three finger tan colored head forms on the beer, lingers for a moment, then dissipates leaving just a thin layer of foam on top of the beer. Aroma is harsh - there are notes of grainy malts, some bread and strong bourbon barrel.

Taste has notes of grainy, bready malts, some dark fruit and a touch of tobacco. This is called "oak aged" but it does not specify if that is virgin oak or bourbon barrels. The taste leads me to suspect that there is at least some bourbon barrel aged beer in this. It's hot and there are strong notes of bourbon and oak. The heat makes this one of those beers that really warms your insides - great for a cold winter night. I just wish it was more bready and less grainy. Feel is medium bodied, moderate carbonation. That heat produces a palpable presence.

Overall it was a solid beer.

Bacon wrapped, well, most anything tends to taste better than it looks. My exception is scallops. Oh my.
Nice culinary skills there @FBarber - that looks great!
